    The Pied Piper
This took a LOT longer than it should have, but I'm easily distracted :P I think it'll look a lot better when it's eventually colored, but I need to get more penciling ideas out of my head and onto paper before that ever happens. Same with Urutu.

Thanks guys! I'll prolly post another penciling of another species before I get this one colored, but you can be sure soon as she's done I'll be posting her up. :) I'm very pleased with how she turned out, the basket was a last minute decision... she needed someplace to keep dinner! ;)

Pieds are so amazing! I'm going to my first reptile expo at the end of the month here in Phoenix (and NOT bringing anything home... no, really, I swear...) and hopefully will get to see all kinds of beauties in person. :) I should bring my sketch book!

I'm hoping that there's some good breeders there for BP's... TSK should be there! Heck, they're a big breeder... they're in CA... PHX isn't that far away!! Bring some animals, TSK! :)

Oh.. and nice pic BTW... I'm so proud that I have a piece of your work!

    Hey Ken,

Do you know of any shows in California, specifically Southern California? I keep looking, even on kingsnake.com, and I see nothing closer than Phoenix...any info or suggested places to look would be great. =)

Dan and Colette of TSK are sooo close (about 90 miles from us), but I'm pretty sure they don't have any "public" at their facility (and I certainly understand why)...but dang! I wanna see some top range ball morphs up close!

Phoenix is only a 4-6 hour drive from Southern Cali... Anything I know/knew about was in San Jose... and that's almost as far, if not further. Seems like the Southwest is not the area for shows... :(

I look forward to taking some of my stuff to a show in a couple of years.

Thanks Ken and Marshall...Phoenix is 6 hours if the traffic is amazing, longer if it's not (the 10 between Indio and Phoenix is hours and hours of merge hell..I avoid it if I can). But, we'll look into Anaheim shows....wish there was more out this way. =P

you know its funny...ive read a lot of fantasy books with dragons and sometimes they are cold blooded and sometimes they're not!
but i personaly prefer the coldblooded idea it fits more into my schema of dragons
(here i am talking about fantasy creatures fitting into my schema wow do i need a reality check)

    Re: The Pied Piper
I guess it depends on if dragons are closer related to birds or reptiles, huh? Like dinos! The debate continues ;) Maybe it depends on what kind of dragon. Well in any case, I'm happy to post the pic! Especially since I've only posted pencilings of my mythical creatures so far, and no finished pieces. Outside of Full Circle, my stuff is typically very mythical beast oriented. I keep meaning to do a really mischievious satyr, but my Gorgons keep taking over. :P I work really slow too, because I have a wonky wrist, so it takes me a while to finish things.

Her name is Nepenthes :) I think I drew her a year or two ago. But still a nice piece.

Sure, but feeding it is going to get expensive when it's all grown up! What, like 3 cattle a week? For a small one? ;)

Edit: Oh, and thanks guys! Nepenthes is a fun character, I figured you guys would like her. :)

Tried to google a dragon or wyvern care sheet, came up with this.

Care and Feeding of your Godzilla

    Close right? ;)

My favorite bit is "You should always provide a hide box in your pet's habitat. This will be for you. We recommend a converted, hardened Titan missile silo or a mine shaft not less than 350' from the surface in rock no softer than igneous basalt. Don't forget to install a filtering system to remove the lethal Strontium 90 deposited by your pet's breath. You will spend a lot of time in your hide box. This is normal and very, very, healthy."

Sorry to chime in late, but I read this and fell into the trap of applying logic to fantasy........... If it's a fire breathing dragon, wouldn't it have to be warm-blooded? Non-fire-breathing would of course be cold blooded.

Very nice artwork too! I've always been jealous of people who could draw, NOT a skill I possess.:)

Concept Artist is a very covetted job for good reason... It's FUN. But they always promote from within, which stinks. It's actually quite hard for an artist who actually wants to *draw* to get into the buisness anymore. Even the animated stuff that looks handdrawn isn't anymore, just computer programs designed to make it look hand drawn. The art industry is a pretty sad place right now... Le sigh. One day the pendulum will swing back in a more artistic direction. :please: Course even I color pieces digitally now, but that's just because it's nice to be able to erase/change your mind. ;)

    *babbles on and on* :blahblah:

*gives Danielle the secret geek handshake* I LOVE the D&D Monster Manuals. I believe it was one of those that originally awoke my Medusa obsession, in fact! I also always played monsterous characters in our D&D sessions. I don't play anymore, but I'm still such a geek I wrote an Art of Character Development site that sits waiting for me to update it, lol. :nerd: Proud to be a nerd! ;) I also still covet those monster books, great artwork and fun inspiration! I have a few White Wolf books too, but the art in there can't hold a candle. For huge nerd points, I just got my brother a Red Dwarf RPG book for his birthday. He and I are both geekily delighted by this, lol!

Also... would a fire-breathing bird then be avian or mammilian? ;)

Well, I don't think it'd have to be warm blooded to be fire breathing. Think of the assasin bug.. he's sure not warm blooded, but he can cause an explosion by mixing two chemicals that are produced in his body.. what if the dragon made his flame the same way?

unless the fire is like in that movie REIGN OF FIRE where the dragon would just be forcefully excreting two chemicals that combined with oxygen is natural napalm!

LOL!! again, I'm in good company!

ps, real napalm produces its own oxygen when it burns so it doesn't need to mix with air in order to burn.
