What makes a Lesser Plat?
Hey folks. I would like to know what a platinum, lesser plat, and Axanthic look like in compairison to each other. What does it take to get a plat? Are they all lesser Plt or is there a thing as just a plat? This is still all teribly new to me. Heck wehn I bought my snake I think I paid around 20 for her and now some of these guys are going to 25,000 that just blows my mind. I guess its worth it to have an awsomely beautiful snake, but WOW. Oneday Oneday maybe. When I hit the lotery or things go like I hope. Thanks for any info.
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
A Lesser Platty is a whole different morph. Look at RDR's website.. he's got the whole story of the first "Platty Daddy"....
Lesser to Lesser produces a pure white snake with blue eyes too.... there are other combos which also create white snakes, but none are quite as "clean" looking than the lesser x lesser lucy's.
We'll have to wait and see until later on this year to see if the prices for Lessers come down a little bit....... There are a few more of them out in the breeding world now, and being that they're co-dom's, the speed at which other breeders are producing them will likely bring the price down a tad from the $25k area.
I'm SOOOO looking forward to hatchling season this year!! Almost can't wait!

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Hurumph... I just sent it to him in PM cause I thought we weren't allowed to post pics/links of other people's sites that don't endorse this site. I guess I could have just posted it here. :)
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
For site's like Ralph Davis and Nerd, that are big breeders, it's ok. There's a wealth of knowledge on those sites. We also do a lot of links to genetics for there too. Some of the other sites that have little value otherwise we stay away from. It's such a touchy subject that maybe we need to clarify this issue a bit.
It's always best to err on the side of caution though. ;) Of course, I could have just sent the link that way too. Did I mention it's been a LONG day. :slamhead:
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
I appreciate the link...I find RDR's site hard to navigate sometimes. Very interesting genetics with the Platty Daddy. Platties and lessers are so pretty...
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
I have to agree. I like the Axanthic with the black white and silver look. I bet the white snake with blue eyes would be to die for. Only ins a dream would I be lucky enough to own one of those babies. Unless I were to breed one myself way down the road. Another dream to aspire to I guess Thanks everyone for the info. Now I have some more reading material for work and when I am bored.
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Did someone say Lessers and Axanthics? Cool! ;)

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Thanks Adam. This s very interesting and I hope to get into it oneday after school is finished and I get a better cash flow system. Thanks for sharing those are some gorgious snakes.
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
lesser plattys are beautiful!
that platty daddy of RDR is a one of a kind snake...
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Adam, Sweet frames!:P
Very beautiful snakes.

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Genetics are simply fascinating Josh. Have a good look at Adam's site for some stunning snakes, as well as the Ralph Davis site Christie provided you with. A couple more since we are into this.
NERD (New England Reptile Distributors) has an amazing site...snakes to drool over....and one of the absolute best explanations of the genetics involved in recessives, co-dominants, dominants (let alone double and triple recessives which just give me a massive headache trying to get my brain around LOL). Kara from NERD is a wonderful contributor to this forum.
As well I've also given you a site from Canada. Markus Jayne has a very nice simple explanation of genetics as well as breeding, etc. with clear photos of everything.
Hope these are helpful. Have fun and bring along a pad and pencil. You'll be jotting down your own punnett squares in no time LOL!

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Thanks Jo for the info and also everyone else. In due time I will get the hang of this and hopefully be able to get started with a breeding program in a couple of years after things settle down. This is so facinating. I;m sorry for not getting into this sooner.
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Is my mind playing tricks on me or does it really say "9ballpyhons" on the border of Adam's top photo?

It does look like that, but I think it's how the picture came out. I'm pretty sure Adam hasn't changed the name or started a "hidden" business! ;)
By the way Adam, love seeing those pictures! It inspires those of us who want to follow in your foot prints!
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
As always, very nice examples provided by Mr. Adam. Thanks for your time and contributions sir. I appreciate and take into consideration your comments (even though most of the time it's IMHO) LOL....:P Keep posting those nice pics.... (now where's my pied????):D
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Maybe I'm just wierd (yes okay I am wierd but that's besides the point okay! :P ) but I really prefer the Lesser Platty over Ralph's Platty Daddy. Not that the Platty Dadding isn't a stunning snake but something about the Lesser just makes my heart go pitty pat. Maybe someday I'll actually get to see one in person!

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Could it be that the Platty hidden gene is the hypo gene?

Nope, definitely not. Normal platty sib x normal platty sib did not produce hypos ... just normals.

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Interesting. So the hidden gene only works with the lesser gene? At least for now. I wonder if it would do anything to the other lucy morphs, or any other morphs for that matter? Only time will tell...
What other hidden genes are out there? I know there was one last summer that someone produced by accident with the mojave.

Well, it has already had an effect on phantoms (Phantom .44's) and butters (Butter Daddies) ... Don't worry, the answers are coming ... there's going to be lots and lots of good stuff coming very soon! ;)

Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
Why is it not surprising that Adam has both of them?!?
Re: What makes a Lesser Plat?
As far as other morphs are concerned I did see a post for "Vanilla Pastels" on kingsnake. hmmm... I am just taking it "a morph at a time" as far as research is concerned. Just when you think you're finally understanding the traits, possibilities, etc.. BANG... Something new hits the scene. What an amazing animal the BP is.....:)
