We just got our first Colubrid. We got a "Ghost" Corn Snake. We were heading downtown to look for a King snake for my son and he fell in love with this Corn so we got it instead. It is so very tiny so I am assuming it is a baby. I will have pics up tomorrow. I have a question. I have a spare 1" piece of 11" Flexwatt, will this fit on a 10 gallon? Right now the 10 gallon seems very large for the Corn. I could put it in a Rubbermaid no problem if someone has a size suggestion for me. The 1" piece of 11" Flexwatt is the one UTH I have right now. The 10gallon is a critter keeper with a lockable screen top that can be covered very easily.

Any suggestions.

1 more question. Can you put Flexwatt on glass?

I have an anery motley corn that is about the same size, and yes, the 10gallon does seem a bit big and I have considered putting him in a shoebox sized sterilite container. He's eating, so maybe it's not too big for him.


Yes, it's fine to use flexwatt under glass, but be sure to have the flexwatt on a thermostat and prop the tank up about 1/2" or so for air flow. They are burrowing little feinds and you wouldn't want him to get burned.

I have a human heating pad under my corn's tank, set on low, with the tank propped up by little 1x2's. The temps stay a very steady 92 on the warm side and 78 on the cool with the humidity around 45-50%. I had to cover half of the screen with saran wrap.

We've got Emi the little milksnake in a ten gallon but Beth added lots of cage decorations and climbing stuff so there's very little actual big open floor spaces. Emi's settled in very well and is eating and in shed again tonight so it seems it's fine for her. They do burrow a lot as Becky says and are escape artists so be careful on both those fronts.

Congrats on the new addition. Love the name!

am i wrong cause from what i've read corns don't care about warmth or humidity. they'll take whatever the room is and thrive just fine.

Oh no, they definitely need a heat source, belly heat preferred. Otherwise they will regurgitate their food just like any other snake. I just give mine a lower cool side temp compared to the Ball as they come from a slightly cooler climate.

that's odd. i just read the caresheet at caresheet here and they say you need no lower than 70 and no higher than 90 degrees... and if you live in a warm climate don't worry about adding heat.

and if you do need heat... a lamp works fine.

Just an update on my little corn. He just took his first meal today. A rat pinkie was the smallest thing I could find for him. He got it down.

What a cutie! I love corns! They're usually pretty good little piggies too, I know my boy'll gulp down his pink like it's going out of style. :)

Corns are wonderful! I bought one about a month ago and within about 2 weeks had to get another one. There are so many colors and patterns out there that it's hard for me not to keep picking one up here and there. Just another addict I suppose....lol! Great looking snake Lars! :D
