New Redtail Pictures
Hey everyone, i decided to take some more pictures of my cute little redtail boa Rosie. Shes around 7 months now and growing very nicely.
I was pretty mad when dad took the really good pictures of her from the comera and deleted them, so i tried to take some more, they didnt turn out so well and she is about to either go into dark phase or into shed, she looks darker than usual to me, anyway, here she is :)

Heres a picture of my friend/local breeders boa constrictor, She does educational reptile shows down at our zoo, for about 2 years now,i have been helping her lug this big snake (along with many other snakes used in the shows) around to differnt schools and the zoo, it has been a really great and rewarding expiernce. Being around and handling her has given me the confidence to get my own little boa. anyway, here she is.
Im not in any of these pictures, the people are the audience at the show who volunteered to hold her. Im behind the camera, these pictures are from last year (or older) i think we are doing another show soon, i will try to get some better pictures then.

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Wow, Rosie is a beaut! Love that tail!!
The boa in the other pictures...is that a BCC or BCI? The markings make me think BCI, but it looks bigger than I imagined them to get. (Although I do know they can get pretty big.)

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Oh wow! Look at the colors on her! Absolutely beautiful. Yeah, the pattern reminds me of BCI but the colors remind me of BCC, especially how red that tail is. Congrats on her, I think she'd pump out some killer babies ;)

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Thanks, i love her tail too ! :) :)
To be totally honest, im not exactly sure what Star is, the breeder got her from her sister when she was a baby, i have heard that she is a colombian/mmexican cross, which doesnt make sense to me becuase of her large size (from what ive been told, mexican boas tend to be smaller) She is most likely a BCC BCI mix or maybe she is just an unusually big BCI
Im not exactly sure how long she is either, all i know is that she is heavy .....really heavy !!!
Ill also add that my boa is not related to star, i got her from a differnt breeder :)

A male BCI could only top out at about 5 or 6 feet depending on feeding schedules! You could do it! :) Think of it as a big female BP!

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Wow! Okay I know everyone has commented on the tail, but MAN LOOK AT THAT TAIL! ^__^ Do you think she'll get as big as the boa in the pic? I love that size, not too small but not eat-the-dog huge =P

LOL .... I think the big snake in those pictures could eat any number of dog breeds!

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Rosie is looking stunning as always! You're doing such a great job with her Brandon.
You know Judy I had no real interest in columbian boa's till we fostered Ruari, the male BCI that is going to his forever home with Becky come spring. He's a good size fella, around 5 and a half to 6 feet and heavy bodied but goodness what an absolutely laid back snake! Never a problem, eats anything offered in any form offered, husbandry is not difficult and he's an easy shedder. Sure you have to be prepared to deal with a larger snake as far as housing, safe handling, food source, etc. - that's only smart and reasonable. All in all though, I'm quite taken with Columbians now. Rauri and my husband Mike watch hockey together all the time LOL.
We are actually adopting a young one from another forum member once Rauri is off to Texas.

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Oh I would LOVE to have a BCI. (And BCC's someday) But the ball python is pushing it for length/size that my hubby is willing to tolerate in the house. And since I can only have one more snake for the time being, I gotta go with the one that really tugs at my heart. But BCI is likely to be my next snake....someday. They're really awesome.
I think it might have been Sheree you meant to direct the thoughts to, but I ran with 'em anyhow. :P

Re: New Redtail Pictures
LOL Thanks for catching that Judy, it was meant in response to Sheree's post! My 4 year old decided sleep was optional last night so between that and a too high concentration of caffiene in my bloodstream I'm a tad loopy today!
Just how many times can a small human being have to pee in one night! Jeesh! Worse than a dog in a field of fire hydrants I swear!

Re: New Redtail Pictures
Gorgeous snake and lovely tail - I'm really into RTBs now and hope to get one (Suriname) myself this year. And, Judy, my husband would definitely sympathize with yours, before we got our little BP he hated snakes (still doesn't like them actually) and said NOT ONE would ever enter his house ... but I think he's kinda given up protesting now coz he's hardly said a word when I mention I'm getting another ...

Re: New Redtail Pictures
I think I need to go hug my hubby, Mike (though he'd kill me for getting between the Red Wings game and him right now LOL). I'm so lucky to share this fascination with snakes with him. 3 out of our 4 kids are into snakes too...the youngest just sighes and says "yes mommy, but I REALLY wanted a puppy!"

Thanks :) I dont know if she will get as big a star.....maybe. like i said before, star is a mixed breed boa, so you cant really tell. Star used to eat rabbitts but got switched back to rats, shes doing just fine with a couple of those.
Rosies mom is almost 7 foot so im thinking she should be somewhere around thier at her adult size, but you never know, she could be bigger or smaller, i dont plan on putting her on the fast track to gigantic size,Im just gonna keep her on her nice steady feeding shedule of adult mice for a while, i dont plan on pumping her full of rat just yet. My local breeder looked at her and said i might wanna switch her to rats, but the mice are leaving a lump so they are fine for now, i dont see any reason to feed her rats until the adult mice become to small.
