Update on Corn with Tumor
Thank you to everyone who was keeping various parts of their anatomies crossed for her - unfortunately we had to have Miss Snakey euthanized yesterday.
We went to the vet to talk to him about the results of the biopsy and decided that he should re-open the wound and see if anything could be done regarding removal of the tumor. Well after cleaning around he examined the tumor and there wouldn't have been enough healthy tissue to cut away afterwards plus the tumor was a malignant bonal tumor (I think that's what he called it) and attached to the spinal cord. We decided it would be best for her if she was euthanized whilst still under the anaesthetic.
Unfortunately I forgot to ask if her original untended bite wound/tick wound (whichever if at all) could have caused this tumor - or maybe if the tumor would have caused all that mess on its own. It doesn't really matter now, but I'd just like to know and shall ask him later today when he gets in.
I really miss her although she was only with us such a short time.
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Sue, I'm so very sorry to read this but know you made the right decision for this poor little snake. At least during the last stage of her life she finally had a caring owner and good vet care that provided her a painless passing.
Our thoughts are with you.

Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
I'm so sorry Sue. :tears: I know what a difficult decision that was, but as Jo said I think it was the right thing to do. She may not have had any easy life, but at least you gave her some time and did everything you could.
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Very sorry to hear of her passing. At least you know you did your best by her. A good life at the end and a easy passing.
My condolances,
Wolfy
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Poor baby.. you did the best you could for her.
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
I'm so sorry... that's never an easy thing to do, even when it's the right and humane thing... :(
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
I am also sorry that you ended up losing her/him.She will always be in your heart though:happycry: .
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Sorry to hear about your loss :(

Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Thanks for all your condolences, guys - I haven't been around these past 4 days as we went on a little mini-vacation - I'd intended posting before I left but time ran out :/
Like you say, I feel I've done as much as I could for her - but sadly it just wasn't enough :(
Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Aww Sue don't feel what you and the vet did wasn't enough. Some creatures just can't be saved, either the disease is a fatal one or it's so far progessed that the damage is just too great to reverse. I think you are wonderful to have taken the little corn on and tried your very best but knew when enough was enough and made that ultimate hard but humane decision.

Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Aw, Jo - I didn't really mean it that way - I guess I feel that unfortunately I can't work miracles ;) and the way I wrote it it just came out wrong. I know my vet did everything he could and so did I - it was just all too late because maybe if it had been caught sooner (i.e. had she been mine from the beginning she'd have been in that vet's faster than she could grab a mouse). But even moving quickly can't guarantee absolute miracles.

Re: Update on Corn with Tumor
Ooops read that wrong then maybe (a difficulty of purely typed communications). I agree with you there, even with the best and fastest vet care we can't always save them. We lost a beautiful black lab female dog a few years back to a fatal blood disorder (cancer) that showed up quickly and took her quickly. Nothing anyone could do but decide when it was appropriate to take that final drive. Frustrating for our vet and awful for our family but you can only do what you can do.
At least the little snake received good care and wasn't left to suffer out it's last days forgotten in some dirty tank in a corner.
