    what should i use???
what do u ppls think is the best product to partially cover a screen lid with to raise the humidity?

Clear contact paper does the trick for me. Leave some open space on the top for airflow. Make sure you attach the paper to the outside of the screen to avoid any risk of your snake getting caught in it. (Common sense, I know, but with 3 teenage boys at home, I've found it's best to be specific.)

Alum. foil, seran(sp) wrap, reflectix, that press and seal stuff works ok:)

Another vote for Contac paper - its transluscent, easy to cut size and work with, widely available and nonporous (damp towels still make me think of that mildew factor i confront every time the kids dont hang their towels up).

What?!?! Your kids don't hang up there own towels? I'm shocked. :O (Actually I can barely get the husband to do that, when he bathes the kids) LOL! Sorry couldn't help myself. :imslow:

I would definitely try to stay away from anything porous. Towels scare me too. Bleh. I love my contact paper as well.

    Yep .

You can do liek Smynx did and cut out a circle slightly larger than the (assumed) lamp. However you'll find the contac (or generically covered) lid will help retain both heat AND humidity. If you are using a UTH you may find you dont need the supplemental overhead heat source (those leech humidity in screen-lid setups anyway).

a small piece of plexiglass cut to fit the top. 1/8" thick plexi shouldn't cost too much. some stores like lowes or home depot sell scrap pieces too.

Heck with that Jeanne, I'm not touching those things with anything shorter than a 10' pole. That's ok - it hits critical mass and they know about it, trust me :P

Yeah. I'm hoping I still have time to train my kids. (Kinda gave up on the husband) They're only 4 and 5. ;)

I did not have to train my hubby... he was "self trained" as he calls it.

Ha! Mine's barely trained. It took me a couple years to get him to separate his laundry into separate baskets. He almost always hangs up his own, but when it comes to the kid's towels - almost never. *sigh* But he did let me get my snakes, so I won't fuss too much about him. ;) He tolerates my animals, and I tolerate his sports. :D

To up the humidity i did a couple things. I took ur typical sarayn( sp?) wrap and covered about 90% of the top of the cage. Now before you all say im gonna kill my snake just wait a sec hehe. With just that you will not wnat to do that. I also went a bought a tropicair humidifier with an oversized air pump this way the snake hast a constant fresh air supply from that plus the space that i still left in the top of the tank.

With this i have never had any problems with the humidity and the temp stays higher as well.
