Re: More anaconda pictures
I guess you didn't rank very high with her today. Silly girl. I really like that first picture. I love the irridecense. Beautiful.

Re: More anaconda pictures
She's really a good girl.. she just freaked when I put her on the floor. She threw her body across the slick floor like a sidewinder and lobbed herself under my chair and hooked around the legs of it so I had to untangle her. Then she musked all over the floor and on my pants.. she did eventually settle down.

Re: More anaconda pictures
wow that snake looks nice and fat. cool conda

Re: More anaconda pictures
She just ate her first medium rat on friday. She was diggin' that. :D

Re: More anaconda pictures
Yay Rusalka pics! She is a little piggy poo. Chimera just moved onto medium rats and he's over a year old...dang you giant snakes! :) Thanks for the pics Shelby.

Re: More anaconda pictures
Great pics Shelby,
Glad they are growing up so well for ya!
I'm sure you already have, but can you post a pic of their enclosure, don't you use tubs? Sorry been a long day so excuse the silly questions..
Talk to you soon
Rusty

Re: More anaconda pictures
I use tubs, racks, boaphile cages, and unfortunately two snakes are still in glass tanks (not for long)
This is Rusalka's tub:

Re: More anaconda pictures
The iridescence on that first picture is very nice :)

Re: More anaconda pictures
Can you fit a larger water dish in?
I don't know if this info helps, but usually when you use a circular water dish, when the snake lays coiled in it she will displace the water and if it is a tight fit her sides will actually not be in the water but against the sides. (did I word that right enough to make sense)?
Thanks
Rusty

Re: More anaconda pictures
The reason it's a small one now is that I have recently switched to disposable water dishes. They are much cleaner that way, and I only have the small size right now. I ordered bigger ones, but they haven't arrived yet. Soon as they come, she'll have one!

Re: More anaconda pictures
EGADS!
How long until you pop her in a bigger tub? Do you have cross-ventilation holes on that puppy?
I know what you mean about the musking, thrashing and bolting. Lilith (fuscus) does that EVERY SINGLE TIME - all that - she's never been a calm chick. Neph will sometimes get a little spooked and decide she'd like to be anywhere but near and make a mess on whoever's near. I know that drill all too well! (she ate our king breeder rat this weekend hah).
I've had to take to using meduim cat pans for water sources due to the proclivity to go splash around in it.

Re: More anaconda pictures
As soon as I can afford a second 3' tub rack, her and Harry are going in it!
I don't have cross-ventilation because if I put any more holes in that tub, the humidity will be shot. (I hate winter)
BTW.. the angle of that pic makes the tub look smaller than it is. She's really not squished in that tub.
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
I hear ya - keeping the space heated is taxing on the humidity!
Top holes are harsh on lettign humidity bleed out as well though - I think I have only 2 that size on the top of the blood enclosures and the rest distributed around the sides. It's gotten so dry lately I have switched the bloods from newsprint to sphagnum (which I've now run out of) :(
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
Yeah.. I now know that about the holes. I set up those tubs a long time ago. Eventually everyone will be in racks/boaphiles and it won't be a problem anymore.
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
I hate to say it, but that tub looks very tiny. There doesn't look to be any open floor space. Shouldn't you get that rack ordered, before you continue to add to your collection? Plus, what is that thing on top of one of the hides?
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
The thing on top is a weight because the hide is light and she moves it around if it's not on there.
I have bigger tubs if needed, but again the tub isn't as small as it looks in the picture. She spends 99% of her time in her hide anyway.

Re: More anaconda pictures
I can't say enough good things about this tub:

Re: More anaconda pictures
Ah yes, I have one of those for my dumerils boa. They are fantastic. I wonder what shipping is on one of those.. I got mine at the show.
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
Walmart carries them right now, they are x-mas tree storage boxes and are a fraction of the cost than reptile tubs..and the same thing... less than $20.
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
Really.. ha. I shall have to check that out.. are they clear?
-
Re: More anaconda pictures
They are not clear, more opaque than anything. You can see in them if thats what you're worried about. But I do think they are opaque enough to offer plenty of security for your snake.

Re: More anaconda pictures
You guys were right, I stepped back and looked at her in her tub, and she really is too big for it. These snakes grow fast.. one day you look, 'oh yeah she's got loads of room!' and the next day she's a foot longer. Or something like that :P
Anhwho.. she's got a new pad now:

Re: More anaconda pictures
That's great, April. And now it's got me thinking. I have a BP that could stand to be bumped up to a larger container. How about a trip to Target, Smulkin?

I now what you mean. Just the other week I had to transfe the biggest bloods to new containers (those ones with the wheels you can roll under the bed). Those big'uns def use more floorspace than vertical.
Neph on the other hand once she outgrows her big tub will need something huge. Thankfully she's a slow-grower, and in any event may be heading to breed elsewhere.

Re: More anaconda pictures
April, that looks SO much better! I'm glad you were able to get her into a new cage so fast. The water bowl looks awesome. ;)

Re: More anaconda pictures
I hope she uses the water bowl. I had a big water tub for her before, but she never used it. ???
