New Pics of Rauri the BCI

Just thought I'd share a few pics from today. Rauri was out early as there was an early afternoon hockey game (Detroit Red Wings 4....New York Rangers 3...go Wings!!!)

I've often told Becky about how Ruari likes to lazy out with Mike in the "man chair" with their hockey blanket so finally proof of my words LOL.

This one is Rauri's handsome face.....I swear I could photograph this snake's face constantly it's so beautifully marked (IMHO)

This one is of Mike, our 4 year old son Mikey and Rauri. Mikey really does like this big snake and always exclaims with glee when Rauri tongue flicks at him..."Mommy! Mommy! The big snake LIKES me!"

Those pics are SO adorable! BCIs are awesome chair-blobs. My hogg island boa likes to watch TV with me.

On a more newbie note, what's a bci?

It just is short form for Boa Constrictor Imperator which is Rauri's "proper" name for what he is I guess you'd say. He's also referred to as a Columbian Red-Tailed Boa and a Common Columbian Boa as well as far as I've been told.

Thanks for all the compliments folks. Rauri just gets better looking each shed and he truly is a lovely big snake with a perfect temperment and a lovely feeding response.

Awwuh, there's muh boy! He's just lovin' that blanket :) I guess I'll have to get a nice, thick blanket to snuggle with him under. I don't watch much hockey, but we can always turn it to Bull Riding or Barrel racing :-D LoL

He'll love whatever you do Becky as long as he gets to snuggle. Silly snake just seems to love that interaction and the nice warm body heat when he's in the mood. When he's not it's more like a rampaging 2 year old messing with all your stuff and trying to drag small furniture around or fit in places where big snakey boys don't need to be LOL

LOL Christie, Mike truly hates having his picture taken or me messing around with the camera endlessly, especially on sports Sunday.

That's our pretty Orlah girl in that pic Robin. Gosh I miss her and Brannagh but I know they are well taken care of at Eugene's and hopefully will make us all proud shortly. Still wierd to walk into the snake room though and not see our two biggest females there or sit down in the evening and not have lovely Orlah to spend time with. As you know her personality is as lovely as she is, so handling times with her are always so relaxing, stress free and gentle.

Yep Matt. I'm so glad we got the chance to foster Rauri or I'd have never known just how wonderful these big boa's can be. Well other than today when I had my perfectly quiet morning coffee/computer time broken up by the biggest, loudest snake fart in the entire world! Literally made me jump and run to see what in heck had just happened (Rauri's enclosure is very near to where our computer desk is). A short time later Rauri "presented" Mike and I with a HUGE defecation!!! My gawd there are days when I wonder if he's a BCI or a Great Dane! LOL

Actually Gin as soon as Rauri ships off to Becky in Texas this spring we are adopting a beautiful little male BCI from Lynne (LadyWhipple) named Severus for our oldest son, Lucas but we'll all of course love and spoil him rotten I'm sure. It will be lovely to have young Severus in the house and help somewhat with the "missing-Rauri" period.

Very beautiful, Jo :) I'm interested in getting a Red-Tail maybe this year - they're totally awesome (if I can find one here in UK). It's amazing how cute snakes can be - Emily's just like that, all cute and docile and loves being a lap-snake :D
