is there any chance she could have a recessive gene (unaffected carrier)?

im just curious .. could that be possible because from what is visible she looks like a normal and i bought her listed as a normal. Im not really on top of my genetics so dont smother me with remarks.

You know, it really is not good to kiss your snake, or any reptile for that matter...

    Ohh, she is pretty though.

If you paid for a normal, the chances are that she's "just" a normal (but I personally love normals). Believe me, you'd know if you paid for a recessive gene!

Snakes and other herps carry somenella. It can make you very sick, and is potentially deadly to the very young and very old. That being said. I always kiss my little Salina, I also coo to her and baby talk her. It probably annoys her, but she is so just cute and adorable.

I love the tail stripe on that snake. She is a beauty.

I hardly think FOR WHAT? constitutes a smothering remark.

If the trait is recessive, you have no way of knowing if it's there unless you know the parents. Most likely you have a normal, and no real unique genetics. But like Robin said, normals are great. Yours has a nice pattern, but I'm sorry to say she's not going to pop out mystery morphs. :D

She has a nice pattern, but for her length she looks a bit undernourished. More triangular than round. Does she have good muscle tone?

Smothering would be done with a large frozen rabbit, and can be done if you'd like... But any remarks we make are NOT smothering, but more rather HELPFUL.

The likelihood that your snake could carry any genes is nil to none. If you bought her as a normal, she is probably a wonderful normal looking ball python.

    thanks for everyones positive feedback.

I cant really tell if she has good muscle tone because I have no other visual comparison.

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the pictures initially. What is her weight and length? What are you feeding her? Just trying to be helpful ;)

She's lovely ;) - I can't help kissing my little Emily - she sometimes seems to put her head up to me for that (I know everyone will laugh LOL!) so she's not afraid of it. I tend to kiss all my pets (though not excessively). Not sure about snakes (salmonella I guess) but with parrots (I have one) they have negative bacteria whereas humans have positive (I think I've got that right) and although people say "Ugh - don't kiss parrots - you'll catch something!" it's more likely parrot would get something from kissing a human.
