Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
lol you guys just love busting my chops .. for me its slightly different because i use 2 seperate UTHs .. thats y i need a dual and i dont have money for a helix.

*whisper* herpstat 2.... HERPSTAT 2!
*whistles and walks off* Doo dee doo dee doo...

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
The dual Rancos don't regulate 2 separate heating devices, they just provide a back-up unit in case one goes bad ... Rancos have to fail safe to "turn off" if they go bad, so a single unit can potentially cook your collection ... that's why people started selling the "dual units".
If you can't afford a Helix, then Rancos are better than nothing, but when you're ready to run with the big dogs, save up for that Helix! ;) :P

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
hey denis, if you really want a ranco(single or dual) i'll get one to you at cost. they cost me about 51.00 a piece plus whatever way you want them wired. helix is way better and should be around the same as a dual ranco.

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
hey besides for the night drop does the herpstat II have anything better than the "regualr" herpstat?
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
I have a regular herpstat, and it has a nightdrop... the output wattage is a little higher on the II, and I'm sure there's some other advantages that I haven't researched much. Check out Matt's site, I'm sure he has lots of info on Herpstat/Herpstat II. :) http://www.mgreptiles.com

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
Oh hush Adam... If you want to buy me a Helix, I would gladly use it :)
The difference between the HS 1 and the HS 2 is that the HS 2 is a dual t-stat combined into one unit. I like it and it does a good job. Keeps temps wonderfully consistant(within .1 or .2 degree). I only use it on Amani's tub to keep both sides at a constant 95 and 84. It is more expensive, but it saved me money not having to buy two Helixes or two Herpstat 1's. Know what I mean, Vern? :)

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
what do you guys think about the ESU Reptile temperature controllers? i have one for vanessa and it's awesome(IMO).
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
Sorry to be blunt, but they are very cheaply made and a bunch of doodie. I've heard of them sticking in the on position and frying the heating element it is "controlling", causing a fire, or in the off position it sets your snake up for an RI if you don't catch it in time.
I prefer to stick with something reliable and much more consistant than those. I used one once and after that I could have just pulled my hair out. It was incredibly inconcistant... It just seemed dangerous that that itty bitty thing can control 1000 watts...

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
currently im running on the ESUs .. so far so good im going to getting something better but for now thats the best i can do.
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
* Warning! Warning * I did something like that too, because I couldn't go w/a bigger unit, and ended up frying one! AAAAAACK!!!! Such a saaaaaaad way to find out it wasn't good enough!
Now I've got bigger, better t-stats on everything, and am looking at a means of keeping electricity/heat, when our power goes out.

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
ORRR, *giggle* you "could" get a Helix or a Herpstat I for the same amount of money and both having higher wattage... But that's just me. You would get more your money's worth buying one of the "tried and true" units, rather than that unit that is only rated for 300 watts. What if you get more snakes? :)

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
sorry becky i dont quite get ur post about the HS1 & HS2
could u try and help me understand the dif?
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
The Herpstat I, just from what I've read, only controls one set temp and has a night drop. The Herpstat II controls two different set temps and has two separate night drops(pretty nifty). Herpstat I can control 500 watts while the Herpstat II can control 700 watts on each side, so it has a combined wattage of 1400 total that it can control. They are both proportional.
Hope that helped explain some things :)

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
ok guys no more ranco .. im fully converted to HERPSTAT 2 !! :number1: and i love my ex. shes willing to get it for me but im going to play it cool as if i could live without it but clearly i cant. So im going to be searching for a good price

Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
so if i have one AP tank with the heating coil the HS1 would be the way to go right?
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
Yep, that would work just fine. :)
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
but the HS2 would give me two seperate temps (e.g. 92 hot side /83 cool side)
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
That's true, but do you have a second heating element to control? If you just have one heating device to control, I would think the Herpstat I would work just fine. If you're using a lamp too that is currently on a dimmer and you would like the temps to be even more consistent, then you can always go with the HS2. Control the heating coil with one side of the t-stat and control the lamp/CHE with the other side.
-
Re: I think I already know what I want for my next present !
i do have a lamp and its plugged into the same tstat as the coil. but since its a lamp it does stay at the same temp it just keeps the cool side in the 80s but i wanna get ride of it cause it kills the humidity.
(ps. does anyone kno wif u can use a UTH on an AP T3? or will it melt the plastic?)
