    more of my brilliant ideas
Hey guys .. well as im waiting for my other thermostat and UTH to come in .. the cool side temps drop way to low 73 or so at night so i decided to use a regular blow dryer to up the temps its been 2 nights so far with Eve both night the temps stayed pretty low. I figured she would stay in the warmer hide during the night but i guess shes not that bright. i positioned the blow dryer further way and the warm air doesnt hit directly the enclosure it hits the clothes wrapped around the enclosure on the cooler side of the viv.. i thought it warm clothes could insulate the heat. I dont want the Fan to hit the wall of the enclosure because it seems to boost the temps up to 90 easily but that might just be my thermometer recieving direct hot air. Ill turn on the fan during the night but before that im going to run a few more experiments to make sure everything is correct. Sometimes i feel like im running a hospial bed .. i have like 5 units working to monitor the poor girl.

You could go to Walmart, Kmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc and get a few heating pads to get those temps up. Normally I'm not a big fan of using them to heat cages because they are prone to hot spots, shorting out, and even catching on fire, but with temperatures that low your snake runs a very high risk of getting a respiratory infection so even though you'd have to watch the setup very carefully, it might be worth it for the sake of your snakes health.

Also, I would not feed that animal until you correct the temps and let them stabilize for at least a week. Otherwise, you could run the risk of creating a puker.

currently im running tests on the fan idea, hum 47 and rising because i covered some of the air holes, temp on the cool side are 83 with the fan ambient 84 and hot side with my controller and Flexwatt .. are around 92 .. with a 3/4 degree drop (its an on and off controller)

If you say so boss ... I guess I'm just different. If it were my snake, I wouldn't be able to wait until Thursday or Friday or whenever the supplies are going to get there ... I'd have to provide the correct environment immediately. I guess I'm just uptight like that. ;)

    Good luck with that. :D

im exactly the same way .. but at this point i already payed for them so its too late to run and grab anything, i lowered the hum to 44 .. im just honestly praying that in the end result once i get everything set up she will be fine. I want to stay away as far as possible from those EVIL words "RI"

Why not go and grab a heating pad, like Adam suggested. Not as a primary heating source but to increase your temps now, and you'll have it as a backup if the UTH ever fails. They're not terribly expensive and would definitely pay for themselves if you can avoid a vet bill for an RI!

If you want to stay as far from an RI as possible you have to raise those temps. Every hour they stay that way, the higher your chance of getting one.

I doubt it, but you can always call and ask.

Those temps are SO important. I think you can pick one up for like $10. (I think) It's such a small amount when compared to a couple hundred if you end up with an RI. I really think it would be worth it. :D

Can you really put a price on providing the best possible care for an animal that you bring into your home? ;)

Your ball is a living breathing creature that didn't ask to be put into a cold plastic box ... I don't see how it's monetary value has anything to do with it.

Look at this way, Adam saved you a trip to the vet and having a snake with an RI and who knows how much money on the vet bill. (Ha! I'm just glad you blamed Adam and not me! :neener: ;) )

Always with the glass half empty! SHEEESH! :P

yep adam, your uptight. and your anal, and a little loud. but you do know ball pythons.

32 bucks is nothing compared to treating RI.
personally i would have got a little space heater and just heat the whole area/room. as long as you get the temps up, that's the main thing.

adam surprised me once at his shop, he had normal adult males in a freedom breeder rack. i asked why. and he said "i don't know i just hung on to them" most breeders probably just get the male to eat maybe and pawn them off asap.

The cheaper ones don't have automatic shut off.

ye i know the only reason i bought it was because it had more options, i think 4 different settings so that was pretty usefull. Im going to bump up the heat for a little while and then go get a new one.
