ok, so im getting an ackie sometime in the next few months and im researching them thouroughly right now. so far i have an artcle from reptiles zine, a caresheet from, pro exotics, and this: http://www.kingsnake.com/acanthurus/care/index.html
do you guys think about it. does it look like its good info?

also, if you guys know of any other good caresheets on ackies please let me know. or, is anyone here experienced with ackies? i cant seem to find anywhere how much you are supposed to feed them a day.

I saw a couple of ackies at the swap today. It's probably a good thing I didn't have enough money with me. :)

its 29 inches x 1 foot x 1 foot. me and my dad built the screen to hous reptiles because it was originally used for fish. is this a good cage for an ackie?

    Re: Ackie care
It should be ok.. I'd just make sure it's deep enough to allow enough substrate for burrowing.

my reptiles magazine article says 6-8 inches of dirt so im gonna fill half of it up with dirt. that sounds good, right?

oh yeah, what did you think of that caresheet i posted in my first post? does it look like its knowlidgeable?

    Re: Ackie care
The link you posted sounds good. They recommend a foot of substrate.. not 6-8".

    Re: Ackie care
i have another question, about the cage. the cage that im gonna use is old, i mean really really old. my dad says it's about 25-30 years old or more and i have some questions about its condition. the silicon that seals the glass isnt dried out or cracked(it actually looks pretty good) but it's kinda flipping up in some places, and when i was keeping rats in it the rats chewed on it a little bit. nothin major just some little chew marks in some places on the silicon. will this affect anything. also near the bottom there's a chip in the glass. it's not sharp so i know it wont cut my ackie but will this affect anything?

thanks for letting me ask all these questions.

I can't tell you for sure on the substrate depth. 8" should be fine.

Since there will be a lot of substrate, I wouldn't worry too much about the silicone. Perhaps put a new layer of it on there, but it shouldn't be a problem.
