    what are your passions/addictions?
what is it your are passionate about... or addicted to?

i am heavily addicted to critters... whether it's feathered, finned, slithering or crawling, furry or croaking... it doesn't matter. i see them, and need to have them in my home!

i'm also very addicted to plants... specifically outdoor ones. my garden is so full of plants that we can't possibly fit another one in the yard (a gorgeous pond in the center... with of course, fish in it LOL) but... we will fit another one... somehow, someway, we will. we'll go to the garden center and come home with a trunk load of new plants... unique foliage or amazing colours... who knows until we see it and have to bring it home!

and then there's rocks... i really love my crystals and fossilized marble spheres... my amythist candle holder... oh the passion is deep and takes over my life!

fountains are another passion... i have one in almost every room of my house where there's an available plug in... as the fish tanks take up a lot of plug ins... even with surge protectors with multiple plug ins - we still don't have enough plug ins (any electricians out there who want to come for a visit and re-wire our home?)

and then there's candles... heavy addiction to buying and burning candles...

:hmm: i wonder if i could, if i actually wanted to, - if i could overcome these or if i'm doomed to continue collecting... (and at age 42 i still have many more years to feed these addictions!)

    i think i'm doomed!

how about you? whatcha addicted to?

(yes this is a selfish attempt at getting to know you all a little better... hope you can all forgive me!)

You can never ever have to much clothes, thats for sure.

This website is definitly another one.....i just love this place and keep on coming back, ive been here for awhile and love the people.People like Smynx,Rusty,Marla,Shelby,Rex and some other people that im surely forgetting are just oozing with information and have helped me alot in my snake keeping journey.

    Let's see...

My rats.. I am addicted to buying them at least ONE thing everytime I go to the store... any store...

And I like looking at tubs to house more snakes in...

Horses and trying to keep my tack in good working order... which is a never-ending job... (if anyone knows how to make crappy leather stop seeping sticky stuff, it would be appreciated... It's gross).

eBay... That says enough, I think. Ok! It doesn't. I love looking at Netsukes(net-skay), rat figurines(russian handblown glass is nice), and goldfish figurines(and the live japanese fish on there that I dream of owning *sigh*).

This gosh-darned computer. My mother would like to toss it out the window onto the curb. But whatcha gonna do... :)

    Piercings/Tats. Can we say fun?!

Am I going to the nuthouse yet? :shh:

    Re: what are your passions/addictions?
Dangerous question, I have a very addictive personality ;)

Obviously animals. Critters of all shapes and sizes, I love them. Except for gnats. I hate gnats. But all other animals I love. I used to collect owl stuff, but have had to stop because we're swamped with the things, lol! Skunks too. Snakes, Barn Owls, and Skunks are my favorites, but I love everything. Especially mine, cuz I'm biased *cuddles her bunnies, birds, and kitty*

Medusa. I'm obsessed with the myth, the history, the image, everything. I have books and jewlery and wallpapers and anything else I can get my hands on. I'm even writing a novel about the Gorgons. Seriously, seriously obsessed. I have a silver necklace medallion with Medusa on one side and an owl on the other that I never leave the house without wearing and I have my self designed icon there tattooed on my shoulder. Major Medusa obsession.

Art/Writing. :gallery: "Art is not a luxury, but a neccessity." I *need* to draw and write. I get very twitchy and depressed when I don't. My webcomic is my baby, and I keep writing *way* ahead of where the comic is which is probably why the site only updates once a month. My brain will be on characters who's grandparents haven't been born yet

Breyers Light Double Churned Chocolate Icecream. If we run low, I panic. Serious addiction. I can say it's okay because it's Light, but it's not. I need the stuff. It's like crack :nirvana:

Villainesses. No idea why, but I crush on them bad. I'd list a few, but most of them are kinda obscure unless you're into weird comics or foreign films. Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy are probably the most familiar ones. I think they make a lovely dysfunctional couple  Maybe Medusa counts under this category too, lol.

    Re: what are your passions/addictions?
oh i guess i should mention my addiction to tattoos... i have three so far... this last one has been in the works since august but i only have one more session and it'll be finished *whew* and then i have to decide what to get next... yup, it's an obsession indeed. my hubby and i take turns getting ink... so i guess i have to wait for him to get his next one before i get to go again.

and, by the way, i am NOT addicted to the computer... it is simply an extension of my being! that's my story and i'm sticking to it thank you.

    Re: what are your passions/addictions?
Wow! I'm so boring compared to you guys!

Right now my addiction is most definitely ball pythons. I cannot sleep at night because all I think about is ball pythons. I check all the Kingsnake and Fauna ads, just so I can see more pretty snakes. I frequent so many breeders' sites it's not even funny, just to see if maybe, just maybe they've updated their sites with "what's in the oven". I wish to win the lottery, just so I can purchase all the pretty snakes I drool over.

At any given time I'll have 10 Explorer windows open and all are pointed to a ball python related site. I spend my lunch hour at work surfing the ball python sites (and sneak in a few peeks during the day).

I am also, sadly addicted to food. I have struggled with this obsession most of my life. I know where it stems from, and it's deeply personal, but suffice it to say, I'm battling that demon on a daily basis, and have been a Weight Watcher's member for 21 months now and have managed to take off over 70 lbs so far (but did have some weight back on over the holidays). I refuse ever skip a weigh in, even if I know there will be a gain, because I know if I stop going, I'll lose control.

With that said, I LOVE Weight Watchers. I also obsess over their website and collecting recipes that even my picky guy will eat. Most of the time he doesn't even realize that what I've offered is a Weight Watchers recipe. Weight Watchers has taught me how to be more aware of how I eat, vs what I eat.

    OK, off that soap box.

Other obsessions - I also volunteer with Canine Assistants, a non-profit organization here in metro-Atlanta that trains service dogs for the physically disabled. I've been a certified volunteer trainer with them for five years this month. We are assigned to staff trainers on a rotating basis (a team of volunteers for each staff trainer and rotated every three months between trainers). Only certified volunteer trainers are allowed to take dogs home and off the facility without a trainer or staff member present. So, I'll take dogs home for a weekend home visit, or for a week during recipient camp and take the dog to work with me to get them used to the workplace environment, as it's highly likely they could be placed with someone who is in the workplace. I'll be picking up a dog next Friday to come to work with me the week of the 16th in fact.

When we have the dog at home with us, they go everywhere with us. To the movies, dinner, grocery store, library, etc. They have the same access as seeing eye dogs and we assist the staff trainers by getting them exposed to various situations. It's gotten so when I go to the convenience store or the grocery store, the first thing the employees say is "where's your dog?" or "no dog today?".

While it's fun to love on the dogs and help them in their training, the real reward is seeing how these dogs change lives, how they make the wheelchair disappear for a teenager, how they allow an older lady the ability to leave her home now, because her dog, Lindsay lets her know that she's going to have a seizure well before it happens, how sometimes these dogs force our recipients to get up and get out (after all, the dogs have to go potty, and someone has to take them out - and well you're out anyway, so why not go do something with your dog?)

OK, enough rambling from me. I guess I DO have obsessions! hehehehehehe!

    Re: what are your passions/addictions?
I am obviously addicted to snakes and reptiles. DUH! That is how I found all of you wonderful peoples. But aside from that...

I have become a part of the poker boom. I so intensely love the game of poker. I have only been playing seriously for less than a year now but I have so much literature and I spend so much time trying to refine my game and make myself a better player. Right now I am in a phase where I am playing really great poker but the luck of the cards is against me. From all that I have read and people that I have spoken to, this is the kind of downswing that every player will go through many times during their playing lives.

I am addicted to funny, adult type cartoons. I am talking about things like Family Guy, Home Movies, American Dad, Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I am addicted to tasting new beers. I have a very particular pallet when it comes to beer tasting, but anytime I can sample a new beer, I always take advantage of that opportunity.

I am definately addicted to playing my playstation 2!! I dunno what I would do without it (or the internet for that matter!)

Sadly I have an addiction to spending money!! Far too often my money burns a hole in my pocket and it is not an issue of not paying the bills on time, it is an issue of not leaving myself any outs in case something unforseen happens. You know, living check to check type of things.

I am also obsessed with sleeping with a fan on. It makes no difference what time of year it is, what the temps are outside or even inside for that matter, whether I am sick or healthy, no matter where I sleep, I will not get a good nite's rest without a fan on. The noise and wind are just something that I absolutely need to have.

Lastly, I am very pleased to say that I am completely obsessed with my wife. She is the central figure in my universe and while I spoil her rotten and her parents rag on me for it all the time, in my eyes, nobody in the world deserves it more than she does!

    Re: what are your passions/addictions?
    I am very obsession-prone.

Take a glance at my signature and that's all it takes to tell you I'm obsessed with SNAKES!!!! Yeah, I know lizards and turtles are cool too, but they completely PALE in comarison to SNAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *ahem* Well, I do love monitor lizards..

I am a complete animal NUT.. way more than the average animal lover. I am not kidding when I say I will open my own zoo someday. While I don't keep many fish or arachinds now, I have been majorly in love with aquatics since I was a little kid (especially marine) and I have newly fallen in love with tarantulas.

I also love horses. I will have a farm someday and raise Friesians, Icelandic, and Gypsy cob horses. I currently only have a wacko thoroughbred. :)

I love drawing.. and sculpting. I only wish I was more organized and had more time to do more art. A couple people at work are commissioning me to do pet portraits for them.

I love sports cars! I want to own a corvette someday (not too long off!) and I LOVE ferraris. The F40 is my favorite. Got to sit in one once, that was awesome!

I am a video game addict as well. I only have a gamecube now and other nintendo stuff.. plus an old genesis, but when I have more money I'll get the new systems that are coming out.

    sushi!

I have a sad addiction to roller coasters too. I love 'em!

Grooming dogs that are well cared for! My job is a dog groomer, and I'm having a ton of fun growing out our cocker spaniel's hair to the floor like a show dog.

That's me in a nutshell, unless I forgot something, which is likely. :)

I'm dead serious. Other than spend time with my family, that's all I do (and even then, I'm usually talking about ball pythons with my family). If not every waking hour, at least some portion of every hour of every day is devoted to either cleaning, feeding, the website, answering emails, working on taxes, talking "business" on the phone, etc, etc, etc. At night when I sleep, I dream about ball pythons.

I don't play golf, go to movies, build models, collect action figures, or anything like that ... I just obsess about balls.

And I wouldn't have it any other way. ;)

Ok I'll take a stab at his one. I love ball pythons. They are just the coolest snakes. Yes, I like many of the other snakes, but ball pythons just do it for me! ;) I'll even resort to just talking about ball pythons, if I'm away from my babies. :imslow: (which is why I'm here all the time - very few people in my family let me talk snakes or at least act like they're paying attention)

Now for none related snake stuff....hmmm. Definitely chocolate. (what won't I do for the stuff *drool*) I also love nature/outdoors and animals in general. I love hiking/camping, but I guess that goes back to the whole nature thing. I love ceramic art too.

    LOL...ditto that!

So aside from snakes & "that which cannot be mentioned"...

COOKING!!! I love to cook & entertain. Simple to fancy & back again. Of course this means I also love food. The world is a culinary wonderland! Pair this with wine collecting & you have 2 passions that make up my next one:

Working out...gotta balance my cooking habit somehow! ;)

Animals in general, but especially horses (which consumed the first 18 years of my life). The world never looked so fine as when experienced from horseback. Also my birds, which rule my very existence.

HAIR! I'm on a quest to grow my hair to a healthy, full 48" (7" to go!). Not to cut off or donate, just for me. Throughout the course of my life it's been very long and EXTREMELY short, and I just don't feel right with hair shorter than waist-length if not longer.

Reading, when I can get the occasional down time.

    Hmmm...yeah, that's pretty much it!

Oh yes I forgot my love of fossils too! My favorites have always been trilobites. :)

I also love to cook.. if I make dinner, I make something fancy. My parents always ask me to cook. Salmon teriyaki and duck l'orange are my favorites to make.

I used to be able to sit on my hair.. it's getting there again. :)

Oh yeah, music and hair! I also want to get my hair as long as possible. :) It's just to my lower back now, and still growing but takes forever because of the curl. Eventually it'll be a huge pain to dye, lol. I envy those of you with longer hair! :P

Also, David Bowie. Everything the man touches turns to gold (or silver, as is my preference) as far as I'm concerned. One of our rabbits is named after him, and one of our doves (Jeanie) is named for one of his songs (Jean Genie). But I also just love music in general.

And masks... I love masks. Bwah, did I mention I have an addictive personality? This is why I don't drink

I love trilobites. They're so cool. I have a couple of the little bugs, and a vertabrae of a whale, a couple of shark teeth, tons of scallops, pieces of a ray's dental plate, tips of crab claws, moon snails, and I could go on. My prize is a large crocodile tooth. Found it myself!! I took a class (morphology of extinct animals) on them and I've been addicted ever since.

I am also very passionate about my family. They rock. I would never have gotten this far without them.

Yeah I find lots of shell fossils in my yard.. when I was real little I found a rock with three shells that were loose in the matrix.. you could screw them in and out of the rock, and there was the imprint of the spiral in the rock when they were out.

I collect guns, everyone in my family shoots except for my 5 yr old, he is getting his first gun this spring. I have 17 guns in all, I want a S&W 500 Magnum for my next hand gun. My wife and kids are all crack shots and very comfortable with them.

I love to cook. I just refuse to unless I can make it homemade. It is an affair when I cook, everything fresh and sometimes hours to prepare. When I was stationed in France, the chef at our hotel and I traded recipes a lot. I use the term "recipes" loosely, I cook from the cuff. You will never have the same bowl of chili at my house, but you will always have a great one.

I work on computers a lot designing websites for friends and just as a hobby. You want a website done, let me know and I will probably do it for free.

Music, who doesn't live music. I like it all but have a real passion for country. When the instruments and voice come together and you have a hard time telling them apart, you have ART.

I love to drive, the faster the better. You can't beat a hair pin curve at 90 MPH. I could drive for ever if I could afford the gas. Yes, it's got a Hemi in it!

I love animals, mostly snakes. They are unique compared to other animals. I have a few now and will be getting a few more when the weather gets warm here.

Last but not least my family. I have three wonderful kids who fear almost nothing and love everyone they meet. They love almost everything I love. I am planning on getting them a horse soon. I have the best wife a guy could have. She is small, quiet, conservative, sweet and caring, that is a huge contrast to my self. The only mistake she ever made was getting married to the biggest, loudest, meanest S*B around. She supports everything I do with out question. I know a family isn't really a hobby, but I don't enjoy anything in life unless I am sharing it with them. We don't even make trips to Walmart unless the whole family goes.

I'm not even gonna say it.....ok, snakes. Boas and pyhtons mosty.

Eddie Z I feel your pain, I too am addicted to poker. I am part of the "boom" myself and if it weren't for dedicated players like us there would only be a "boom", I think it's here to stay as long as we are and there will always be weak players that don't want to study the game and quit being replaced w/ more dead $. Poker is a way of life and it reflects life so much it's scary. pOKER POKER, pOKER....I could go on and on but this isn't the forum for this try pocketfives.com it's the shiznit!

    Cigarettes....ahhhh smoke

Music to some extent my cd player and cds got jacked and my daughter really can't listen to my $@#% as it's so commonly referred.

    alcohol....I don't taste it I guzzle it

The internet. I have gone w/out it for months but as soon as it's on I am sitting here all the time. I don't even play video games anymore because of hold em and the i-net. It serves the purpose of feeding two addictions at the same time it's like scratching my back and massaging it too.

Sleeping I can never get enough of it....way underated

Talking...I do it a lot I even talk to myself. I know i KNOW (See what I mean)

Well I gotta go watch the WPT in aruba w/ Mike matasow for the 12th time.

*addictions aren't so bad-if we had none we would have no reason to live:)

Yeah I find lots of shell fossils in my yard.. when I was real little I found a rock with three shells that were loose in the matrix.. you could screw them in and out of the rock, and there was the imprint of the spiral in the rock when they were out.

I don't think I have a real favorite dino. I love pleisosaurs, brachiosaurus, pteradons, sauropods, and the list goes on. What a dork am I? :nerd: I wanna come live with you, dangit. I want fossils in my backyard. I used to have to drive quite a ways to get to Calvert Cliffs. Although they were awesome! When you can collect 100 of one species, that's just kinda neat. Great now I want more fossils. :slamhead: I think I just need some help.

lol.. yes I am a major weirdo too, Christie. The lake has some pretty awesome fossils. Lots of coral (I guess anyway we call them honeycombs) shells (I have a couple complete shell fossils, both sides still hinged and closed together. 'cupcake' fossils (no idea what they are) chain fossils (same) worm fossils.. the list goes on.

Cupcake fossils? Got any pics of those?

Dang! I'm feeling the need to go scrounging around again. Plus I am going to try and get back to MD during the kids spring break in March. That's perfect time to go, with a freshly washed layer exposed! Maybe I'll have to sneak away go fossil hunting, come back in time to clean cages at Adam's. Oh what a day!! That would rock!

Think we can hijack this thread too? LOL!

Make no mistake Adam, I love that about you too. Granted, that isn't as good as having a woman love something about you, but what can I say!?

I am still trying to talk to the wiffey into visiting DC for her Spring Break this coming semester. She has an Aunt that lives down there and if we visit, we are DEFINATELY coming to see you!!!!!!!

Oh, and to those who said they are obsessed with something not appropriate to mention on this site, yeah, have you seen my wife!? I am also obsessed with something not appropriate for mention on this site! :)

I couldn't find the good cupcake.. the good one has a mound of rock on the top of it that looks like a perfect cupcake. This one is upside-down.. you can see the ridges are like the little paper cups you bake them in.

Desert Eagle is way too over rated and over priced. Yeah it's a big gun and shoots a big bullet, but it ain't all that. I will stick my my SA Model 1911 .45 auto or my 8 shot Taurus .357 Magnum. .45 is a slower round but it's a nice round and it has only jammed on me twice in over 1k rounds. .357 is a slightly smaller round, but its faster, packs a lot more power and will crack an engine block. It is just too big to conceal carry. Me and the wife carry our .45s when we see the need. Send me all the info you can on that Benjamin and I will research it for you. I have a few gun books here and I bet I can find it.

Side note: I need a Luger for my collection. If anyone wants to give me one I will come pick it up.
