Whats the best place to order frozen rats?
I'm having trouble finding a good feeder company, I've tried Big Cheese Rodent Factory and Hare Today Gone Tomorrow.
I'd like to look into other companies, Perhaps someone could make a list of the best feeder rodents from their experience?
I need somewhere that ships to the US. Thank you!

I have ordered a few times from Perfectprey.com and I’ve been really happy with what I have received. It came on time, in tact, and within the advertised ranges of weight.

This question comes up a lot- one example of a 'semi-recent' discussion: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...at-distributor

Note- I've ALWAYS raised my own rodents, so I've never tried any of these sources, but list them because they've repeatedly received very good reviews & few if any complaints I'm aware of. Keep in mind that the more business a company does, the greater the chance of a complaint here & there. That doesn't necessarily mean you want to cross them off your list- think about how well they've resolved any complaints & how recent the complaints were. There can also be issues beyond any company's control- for example, delivery mistakes. There may be other, more localized companies that are not as well known as those listed below. Please feel free to share reviews of those you've bought from.

    Perfect Prey (in FL) http://perfectprey.com/

    Layne Labs (in CA) https://www.laynelabs.com/

    Big Cheese (in TX) https://bigcheeserodents.com/

Cold-Blooded Cafe (in Indianapolis, Indiana) https://www.coldbloodedcafe.com/

    Rodent Pro (in IN) https://www.rodentpro.com/

If I wasn't raising my own, that's who I'd order from just based on all the positive reviews I've consistently read online.

RodentPro is who i’m going to - seems to be the go-to in the US for high quality prey items and i personally have seen lots of really good reviews - i also like that they offer a) a variety of options b) nutritional info and c) variety of size options which accommodates large constrictors

I have been ordering from Cold-Blooded Cafe for the last few years and I have been very happy with the quality!

I've personally used RodentPro. No problems with them, but I have heard a few people having a bit of freezerburn on theirs? I assume because of the dry ice in shipping...but I could be wrong.

I've also heard good word about Cold blooded cafe, perfect prey and layne labs.
I think the only real downside I hade with Layne was they were a little pricey when I was looking for a rodent supplier, but that may have changed.

When I used to order frozen rodents online, I used RodentPro. I didn't have any issues with their quality. I stopped ordering online when an exotic pet shop opened in my neighborhood and I started buying individual rodents from there. It pleased my wife that she no longer had a pile of dead rodents in her freezer.

I still say that's the best way to get out of participating in pot-lucks though. :D

One of the conditions I settled into with my roommates before moving in together....

All rats stay in my own minifreezer.
Although.... it has worked well to deter people from stealing my own frozen treats if I hide them there too.

Just don't get the two confused.

I've ordered from most of the big US companies just to compare. In terms of feeder quality, my absolute go-to is Layne Labs. If I lived on the east coast I'd order from Cold-blooded Cafe or Perfect Prey. I won't order again from RodentPro just based on the notably lower quality of feeders in the orders I placed with them.

Humane treatment of feeder animals is really important to me, and I will say that in telephone discussions, Layne was head and shoulders above any other company in that arena - but if you don't live in the western side of the country, their shipping may not compare well to Cold-blooded Cafe or Perfect Prey.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I live on the East Coast, But I'm willing to pay extra for shipping if it means these rodents are high quality and treated humanely :)

If you’re considering perfect prey since you’re east coast, they have a section in their website outlining the care and euthanasia process for their animals, as well as their general philosophy on feeder treatment, which I appreciated. Just in case you’re interested and hadn’t seen that yet.

Yes, I noticed that too- that's another reason I'd try them if ever I quit breeding my own.
