Winter Holidays
so what y’all doing for the holidays? so far is just been a p laid back Chanukah for me this year, just been with my bf and lighting candles and such but we’re gonna do the fam thing here soon - thought this would be a cool thread idea - from my house to yours chag sameach (happy holidays!)!
-
Happy Chanukah or Merry Christmas, everyone! Or whatever else you might be celebrating. Pretty low-key here- sorry, just not a party person.
-
We are also keeping it low key. I'm not decorating the house this year as we are going to my mother in law's and I will be bringing most, if not all, of the food as sadly she has recently been diagnosed with cognitive issues (exact diagnosis coming next year), my sister has back problems and is scheduled for surgery in early January, and my dad has a knee replacement scheduled for January so he isn't traveling, and my sister in law can't make it. My daughter and I visited my mother in law last weekend to put up her tree and set up some lights.
We're not making a huge dinner - no big turkey or ham on a platter, or anything like that. I'm making a ton of finger foods and appetizers so we can graze our way through the afternoon while we visit, exchange a few gifts, etc. I'll be leaving most of it for my mother in law to eat since she doesn't like to cook much any more.

Taking the family to visit my Dad on the farm. His internet access is pretty limited, so I'll take this opportunity to prematurely wish you all a happy holiday.

Re: Winter Holidays
Happy Holidays everyone!
I have both sisters in town from LA. My (older) younger sister, Sarah, who is 37 is staying with my parents and will spend a night or two with me and Katie. My parents are about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours away but here in CT as well. My (youngest) younger sister, Ally, who is 20, is staying with me and Katie most of the holidays, with a night down with my parents and Sarah (Ally is my half sister by birth and my father's daughter while my parents in CT are my mother and my step-father).
Me, Katie, and Ally, are going to Katie's uncle with the grandparents and in-laws for Christmas. We have been celebrating Hanukkah for the past few nights all ready. My family is Jewish and Katie's family is Christian.
As long as no one brings up politics, it should be ok.
Additionally, we are having Hannumas/Christmakkah with my parents tomorrow. My step-father is Christian as well and my mom loves having a tree now; something else for her to decorate!
Hoping everyone has a happy, safe, and enjoyable holiday season!

Re: Winter Holidays
Well, like many other Midwesterners my Christmas plans are up in the air due to the storm system coming. Fingers crossed it won't be too bad. Today at least I am taking my boyfriend out to dinner and then we're seeing the Winterlights at the art museum in Indy. Hopefully, if the weather isn't too bad then I will be heading up north to see my dads family on Christmas Eve and then heading back home for Christmas morning, then seeing my stepdad's family. But again it is all weather dependent.

At the risk of repeating myself  Happy Holidays Everyone! I hope everyone's power has stayed on through this brutally cold weather, & I hope you're all enjoying good health, & that goes for your pets too. And while I'm on my soapbox, thank you all for contributing to this forum, sharing your experience here to help others do the best they can with their animals. :gj:

We're having Christmas next weekend around New Year's since this year's Christmas landed on an awkward day of the week in terms of family traveling here. Which hey, considering that means skipping this awful weather I'd say it's worth it.

I don't envy anyone trying to travel for this weekend. Very wise move to delay your celebration.

My wife got sick, so we had to cancel our trip. I'm sorry I won't get to see my dad. I'm glad I don't have to travel and that I'm not freezing my butt off in that old farmhouse.

Maybe another time, when the weather is better for travel & no one is sick- I hope your wife feels much better soon.

I unfortunately still have to because of work (yes even on Christmas Day) and, yeah... I don't have as much driving experience as many but these are still the worst road conditions I've ever experienced. :(

Sorry you have to work today, but there's a lot to be said for having a job these days too, & most of them have downsides of one kind or another. Just hope you stay safe on the roads- I trust you're keeping the recommended emergency supplies in your car- that's about all you can do besides slowing down & being very alert. :please: Wishing you safe travels...
