Hey sexy beasts and beastettes! n00b here
I'm Ashley. I'm 19 and have 3 ball pythons, a red corn snake and a green iguana.
My first ball python (Vinchenzo) I got when he was just a baby form a petstore...I know BIG MISTAKE! My rommate got one with me and he ended up dyign after jsut a little over a month.
I was UBER mad cause I took him to the vet less then 2 weeks before hand and they asusred me he was fine. I had my doubts about the vet who spoke to us cause she seemed more interested in how "cute" the snake was then any of my concerns such as the snakes size and eating habits.
So I had them pay for ALL the vet bills for him. Surprising how a drop of them being reported to the vet board for malpractice can get you a little slack.

Anyway after that I just had him.

A little while later and after I found a reputable pet store where I buy my accessories and such. I bacame friends with a few of the people who work there and they are fellow snake / other reptile owners. they told me about this red corn snake that they had and how he's been brought in fomr a pet shelter cause he was "too active". As soon as I saw him I knew he was to be mine. I held him for a bit and walked around with him. He was indeed active, exploring every inch of my body lol. With in a half an hour I had him named (Odin, 5-5 1/2 feet) and said I'd be there to pick him next week. lol

I then looked into other stories in my area of people who don't want their snakes cause it "wasn't what they were looking for as a pet"...aka...didn't know what they were getting into...

I found one guy who wanted to get rid of his pastel and GOLDEN ball python for 200$$!!!!! FOR THE PAIR!! So I went and met up with him and the snakes.
(I like to handel and see the contidions in which they are kept before I buy)
He has a decent enclosure. They were in a tank with 2 red tail boas, and a costal carpet python. They were farily cool cause he didn't keep the heat light on often...Didn't like that much, my babies are usually kept between 75-100 degrees F. with their "cool" side at 50-70 degrees F.
So yea, other then that they had a very nice healthy look about them, clear eyes, active flicking of the tongue as they were handeled, and very good body mass and appearence, clean mouth.
So I now have them. The female golden python is named Ereequel (3 feet)and the male pastel is named Tneme (3-3 1/2 feet).

They get along GREAT! At first Ereequel and Tneme wouldn't sleep in the hide with Vinchenzo, they'd sleep behind it under the fake furn. But now sleep contently curled up together in side their hide.

Lastly is my Green Iguana, named Divinci. He's a juvenile still and is still a but not as much as he was when I first got him....THANK GOD!!!! He'd whip me any chance he'd get, but now is fairly calm and give me the occational scratch when I first take him out of his enclosure, but once I start to scratch under his chin or offer him some spinach green...he's butter in my hands.
He loves to chill out on this suspended vine I have for him. He just flopps his self over it and sleeps for hours. Very laid back fella.

Anyway if there's anything you want to ask go for it! This this is long enough! lol

Have a good one and I have pics up on the picture forum of my little babies:D

Wow.....im way to tired to respond to all of this post, all i have to say is that, you need to separate your snakes, they dont do well together for a number of reasons.

I only have my ball pythons put together. My red corn and iguana are kept in their own separet enclosures.

I've always had Vinchenzo with other snakes, he bunks with my friends ball when she baby sits and the two I just got were in the same enclosure as two other boas nearly twice their size and a costal carpet that was half their size.

So I think my pythons will be fine together

And you even let them mix with other snakes, especially boas ?? Boas can sometimes carry IBD which is fatal to pythons (and of course boas) you could be spreading diseases by letting all of these snakes come in contact with yours.

If you'd actually ready my post please you'd see that the PREVIOUS owner had them housed with two boas and a castal carpet.

I didn't post this, but I do keep my new commers in a quarentein (sp?) tank separated until they are checked by a vet.

Do not feed your Iggy spinach. It is bad. It won't let the lizards body process the calcium the right way. (I am pretty sure that's the reason Sass gave me) Stick to collard greens and mustard greens. They are a lot healthier for the Iggy to eat.

    Welcome to the site!

Please realize that folks here aren't engaging in self-aggrandizing behavior, going on a herpier-than-thou binge etc. The collected wealth off information from cumulative experience here is geared toward helping folks make informed decisions about their husbandry choices. If things don't jibe with the way you do them no one can force you to make the necessary changes in the best interest of the herps. But you cant blame us for trying!

Ok, as a person who has kept two Ball Pythons together I would like to say a few things. You might think at first that your ball pythons are fine. eating well, and active healthy animals. WRONG, being housed together is very stressful on Ball Pythons. You may have noticed your snakes coiling around eachother? That's not a sign of cuddling or anything like that, that's one snake asserting dominance over another.

    Also, a few health issues:
If there's mites in the ONE cage, all th snakes get mites.

If one of the snakes has parasites and you dont know it all the snakes will get them.

How are you going to know which stool is which so you can tell which snake has parasites.

They have been known to be CANNIBILISTIC!!
Those are just a few reasons why you shouldn't keep Ball Pythons together.

Re: Hey sexy beasts and beastettes! n00b here
First of all, welcome to the site. You obviously have a lot to learn about reptile husbandry and I would recommend that you do some searching and reading up on topics here that we have covered before.

    Some search terms may be:
    "Keeping two snakes together"
    "proper temperatures"
"pastel ball python" (if you got an adult male ball python for less than $500, hate to say, its probably NOT an actual pastel)

50-70 degrees on the cool side of the enclosure is too cold. Your snakes will eventually get respitory infections and die.

You need to separate your snakes. There are more than a few professional breeders on this board with more collective experience than all of us noobs combined. I'd listen to them before I decided that my way was the right way. You may say that they "seem" fine and happy, but I don't think you have enough knowledge to even guage what things to look for in a happy healthy snake.

I don't mean to sound condescending, I just want to make sure we have your attention. If you do everything right, you will have a positive experience with these guys and many years of rewarding experiences to come.

Re: Hey sexy beasts and beastettes! n00b here
Look I've seen how you guys turn innocent things into a flame war..so I'm goign to say that my snakes are fine the way they are.
I've heard both good and bad things fo keeping two snakes together. And so far keeping them together is a good thing. If they show any signs other wise, they will be separated.
My appartment is fairly cool so I keep then warm and since they keep on the warmer side of the tank I'd say they were comfortable there in the temperature they are.
As for the price I paied for my newer pythons, everyone was very surprised as to the price I paied. But the guy was desparet to get rid of them and they checked out at the vet fine.

So yea. End this here. I'm not up for arguing with people I dont' even know and who's opinion is already focused on one thing. It's like a muslam forcing his religion on a christian. Nither will waver.

Cool, well I'm sure most of us want to see a pic of the pastel, I looked in your gallery and didn't see one in there. Did you post it somewhere else?

Re: Hey sexy beasts and beastettes! n00b here
No one is forcing anything on you. They are trying to give you good advice. Please keep an open mind for the sake of your animals. You have spent a good sum on them, you should study and work diligently to protect your investment. I am only asking you to study all the information out there and make an informed decision. There are good people in this forum who care about animals. They aren't trying to beat you up, they are trying to help you keep your animals healthy. In the title of this thread you admit you're a "noob", learn from others so that your animals can be healthier.

    No, actually it's not.

It's like people with knowledge and experience trying to help someone that is new to keeping snakes.

FACT - Ball pythons exposed to temperatures in the range you admitted to will eventually get sick and if left untreated ... die.

FACT - Housing multiple ball pythons in the same enclosure WILL cause stress on one or more of them.

FACT - Ball pythons will eat each other when stressed.

FACT - Stress is not something that you can "look for" ... being new to the species and new to snakes in general, how would you even know what it looks like?

These aren't opinions. These are facts documented not only by people that have been keeping these animals for years, not only by professional breeders that make their living keeping and caring for these animals, but by scientists that dedicate their lives to the study of reptiles.

If two people were going back and forth spinning their wheels calling each other names I would maybe consider this thread a "flame" ... but all I see is a bunch of caring snake owners with a lot more experience than you trying to prevent you from making mistakes that have already been made.

Didn't you post that you've already lost one ball python? Maybe some of this advice will prevent that from happening again. ;)

Maybe this and the other thread should both be combined and filed under S for silly. Unfortunately this person has chosen to believe some unnamed experts rather than the experienced, professionals that post here regularly and breed, sell and keep healthy hundreds upon hundreds of snakes. Nobody will convince her and I am calling "creature under the bridge" on this one anyway. You can lead a horse to water...

Well, only time will tell, if it becomes neccessary, I WILL lock both topics down for the sake of keeping it peaceful around here.
