    Rodent Pro
Hello they are having a deal right now on there rat pinkies and pups im wanting to order for my ATB i bought rat pups last time for her and she took then with no problem so do you think it's worth paying out almost 90.00 with shipping and everything for 100 of them just for the snake? Thanks Aaron

    Re: Rodent Pro
Only if you cant find them locally for .90 or less. You could lower it if you find someone near you to go in on the order with you. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me though! Locally here, rat pups are like $1.50 or so...

Rodent Pro goes to alot of Reptile Shows, how about finding one near you to save on the shipping cost, make your order and tell them you want to pick up there. I know one of our members did that a few months back by going to the reptile show in Columbus.... if I remember right, it was Lynn.....

So im wondering if it would just be cheaper and just keep buying all pupps the rats have and just freeze them myself and save the cost of shipping. The 4 pups i bought the other night cost me 5.50 with tax and everything i only feed Mazon one a week. So what do you all say to this? Thanks Aaron
Ya but im about 2 hrs away from that show and the cost of gas and the tear car would almost be the same as the shipping just a thought.

    Re: Rodent Pro
Yep, that was me. :) Rodent Pro is at every show here in Columbus, as well as American Rodent Supply (who I'm going to try next). I think I ended up spending around 35 bucks for a bag of large rats and a bag of small rats.

What I did: Got online, sent them an email asking them if they could hold me a bag of large and a bag of small (so they didn't run out before I got there), went to the show. They had the bags waiting for me, with my name on it. Quick, easy, painless... and lots cheaper.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for posting to that Lynn, I thought it was you who did it! I guess my memory is not totally shot yet.

Wow, what a savings difference in being able to pick them up like that. I do it that way also. In reality though, the cost for shipping from them is justifyable because they have to pack them in ice and stuff to arrive at your door safely and not mushy rodent scicles (sp). But I say, if you can find a way to save, even if it means going to a show to pick them up if that option is available to you, go for it!

Hey Lynn, when you go through the other vendor, could ya please let us know how that goes, as I had no idea they were at the show at the same time..shows how much my one track mind pays attention since I have gotten in a habit of doing things a certain way when I go to a show for specific reasons. Whats the price comparison per rodent compared to Rodent Pro's?

Ok well i'll just try that then instead of paying out the shipping i've also am wondering if i should go to the next show or wait until the new babies are getting ready to be sold are there many herps being sold this time of year at the Columbus show?

RodentPro small rats are 20/bag at .99 cents a piece and their larges are 5/bag at 1.69 a piece. Here's the link: RodentPro

American Rodent Supply smalls are 25/bag at 1.00 a piece and larges are 5/bag at 2.00 a piece. Here's the link: American Rodent Supply

ARS is a little more expensive I guess, but they also vaccuum pack their animals... and the next time I order, it's going to be a big one, and I want the rats to keep.

I've also heard nothing but good about their products, and just want to try something different, see how it goes.

EDIT: They always have quite a few animals for sale at the show, no matter when you go---though, it's true, if you wait till spring, when everyone's hatching and having litters, you'll find a bigger selection.

There is ALWAYS herps being sold at the Columbus show. But when the hatchlings start to come, you just have alot more to choose from. When I say ALOT more to choose from, I am not joking. I spent over 2 hrs. going through Don Hampers and another breeders baby bp's a few yrs back to find the "right one" for me! Don Hamper had the "right one". :D

    Re: Rodent Pro
I must say, I have been less than impressed with my last 2 RP shipments. Multiple rodents with their heads detached (which they explain is from contact with the dry ice, which shouldnt happen), and scrawny dirty rats with feces on them. I have begun to wonder whether RP is actually processing their own or buying from outside rat breeders and just repackaging. Major size differences in small rats is another issue. I am going to probably take a try with one of the other places (big cheese or the mouse factory). Just my thoughts for what it is worth.

Let us know for sure how that goes, Please. I too have been buying from rodent pro and the only thing I can complain about is the fact that thiers are not vaccuum sealed, and I too buy large amounts of rodents, so vaccuum sealed would be a little nicer. Maybe post pics after you pick up your rodents through them, so all can see how they do package?

Will do... it'll probably be middle of January (I believe Jan. 21st is the next show). But I'll let you all know.

Jamie, I've just had the one order, but I've heard lots of other people's complaints about RP. And, in my one order, there were definately differences in rat sizes (I believe I had one medium-large stuck in with the smalls, cause it was huge).

Again, I really don't have anything against RP, I just wanna shop around and see how it goes.

    I'll let ya'll know!

Please do. Aside from feces and overall bad looking rodents, most stunk of urine as well. Unfortunately I have never seen any word on forums from Kevin or Kelli Bryant and the only contact I have had there is with Casey. While he was very nice and gave me some extras in my next order, there was really not a whole lot of explanation for why the sudden drop in quality.

Now that you mention that, I guess I do have another complaint. I too have had this problem with recent rodentscicles. Some are dirty and just plain nasty, and I have had alot with detached heads and/or mutilated looking. I too was told it had something to do with the dry ice, but it still dont explain why they are dirty and nasty smelling because of urine/feces. Also, I did notice the size difference within one batch of what should have been small rats... a few of them I could not use cause they were just way to big, and I actuallly have 2 sitting in the freezer now, that I dont know that I will use for awhile b/c of thier size. Lets not forget also, some look aweful skinny even after thawing, almost like they are not being fed as well maybe.

All of this makes me believe that they are getting rats from outside sources and just repackaging them. Not what I was promised or paid for.

You know, I thought about that too, but was just not sure. And when I did start asking questions, I really got no answer.

oh dear. i have an order coming from rodent pro the first week of january. i have always been very pleased with their service and the rats i get from them so i really hope that this hasn't changed drastically. i have always gotten clean, fat rats, with intact bodies. i know that they have been running out of stock very quickly--there is only about one day out of every 2 weeks or so that you can actually order certain sizes of rats before they are out of stock again so i'm not sure what's going on there...

It could be the fact that they may be getting thier rats from outside sources causing an issue like that. It makes no sense to me as to why it would be like that if the rodents were coming from them only. I think recently there have been complaints on BOI about these things, but cant remember.

just to update everyone on this, i received my shipment from rodentpro and it was excellent. good quality, plump looking rats, clean, well packaged, still frozen solid, etc. any problems that others may have experienced recently were not evident at all in this shipment. the rats and packaging were exactly how they have been in the past for me and i am quite pleased with my purchase.

Thanks for following up with the update. I was considering them until all the icky posts, and because they're shipping is prohibitive for me. I'm trying (for the first time) a vendor who's only about 2 hours away from me, so we'll see. I may end up going to RP after all.

    Thanks again for the update!

I just recently received an order of adult mice from Rodent Pro that was bad. Heads were broken off in the ziploc bag, when defrosted they smelled like the had been dead long before freezing and my snakes wouldn't touch them. They offered to replace and I told them "no thank you".

Pretty much exactly how we stumbled into homegrown rats.

THough I have to say when we were gettgin shipments from RP (bout a year ago) we never had any issues.

    Re: Rodent Pro
3-4 weeks ago, Usually the mice I had received in the past were white but these were black and brown. I think like was stated earlier in the thread, that they purchase from outside when falling behind in production. Which would explain alot, but that gave me more concerns than anything. That is why I breed rats now, I will always have the right size prey for my snakes, and know the condition and diet of what I am feeding.
