Sold as super pastel

So I was sold a pair of BPs. Male is said to be super pastel with 100% hets and female regular pastel with the same hets. I have always thought he either was a poor super pastel or not at all. I mentioned to the breeder and he said he could also be a fire as that was also in the mix. He does look significantly brighter than his female pairing who looks like a regular pastel. I do apologize for the photo quality of the head but I hope that it shows colouring.

Congrats! Certainly they both look pastel. Is the one in the photo on the left the one sold as a super pastel? If so, he definitely looks cleaner and brighter than the reptile in the right side photo. They both seem to be missing the blushing that is typical with the super form of pastel. Also we can’t see the head of the one on the left and the head is where a lot of the blushing could be seen in super pastel. Another key characteristic of the true pastel gene is green eyes. Curious as to what they are het for? They both look very nice in any case. What was the pairing that produced them also is a question to ask the breeder. Do you trust the breeder? You can always breed them to prove them out later on also. There are varying degrees of quality in all morphs but certainly pastels. See if you can get another photo of the head of the pastel on the left. Good luck! :gj:

my apologies both of those pictures were the same snake - this is the cleaner looking male which was suppose to be either a super pastel or a pastel fire. They are supposedly het for ultramel and hypo.
As for the breeder themselves, I trust the person who recommended them to me but the actual breeder was someone I hadn’t heard of before so I’m hoping they prove out..

Found this pic of super pastel on World of ball pythons. Blushing is there but not seeing the green eyes. Could be the lighting or lack thereof ? When they are younger they always seem more well defined and crisp anyway. This one is obviously a youngster. But I did want to point to the blushing. Pastels are known to lose their coloration as they age. Depends on the type of example of the morph. If there was fire in with pastel that would make it a firefly. Not seeing that. Still a amazing looking reptile. Congrats, you still have quite a bit of potential with both of them. Let’s see what others on the forum chime in with. :)

IMO, there's pastel fire or a lower grade super pastel. There's too much color there for it to be a single gene at that age. Pastels brown out way too much. I don't think being het would keep that much color to it.
The only way to be sure if breeding I suppose. Find another snake with a fire or vanilla gene and see what happens? Or if you get only pastels from a normal then yeah, super pastel

On the green eyes thing... Not every pastel will have them and other genes can muddle the color. My killer queenbee has hazel eyes, my pastel has light brown.

I'm thinking some Fire complex morph + Pastel rather than Super Pastel. There is strong blushing, but not Super Pastel strong, and the color is pretty bright vs that creamy yellow Super Pastels tend to have. Depending on what your intentions were, Fire Pastel is probably a superior option anyways because it will hold color a lot better.

Yes they do however once you start stacking up genes depending on what genes you are using they eye color will vary usually Banana Combos will tend to have dark eyes.[/IMG]
