    I've been bitten!
No, no... not by my precious little Hyde. I think I've been bitten by the dreaded Herp bug.

Symptoms include looking in the tanks at the pet store you're buying mice at.
Surfing snake sites at lunch time, not for the info but to see what's 'available'.
Figuring out how you can rearrange your living room to accomodate more totes.
Thinking of asking your spouse for another BP for christmas.

Oh no! Like a need another mouth to feed! Crap. I want another lovely snake to take care of. <sigh>

I think this accured last week sometime. Yeah, it was right after my two cocker spaniels got into the left over bag of halloween candy that my hubby left on the end table. Yes yes, I know chocolate can kill dogs, but this was the extreamly cheap stuff thats mostly wax and sugar. Still, they puked and pooped brown waxy stuff everywhere.

So, while I was scrubbing furiously I start saying thing like "I'm going ship those mutts off" (which will never happen, but when you scubbing puke and poop you say things). And, "Snakes don't eat chocolate and barf everywhere! Snakes don't shed fur everywhere! Snakes only eat once a week and poop even less! Snakes don't roll in poop they find in the back yard at 6am when your trying to go to work! We're getting rid of the dogs and getting more snakes!"

This is when I realized I had been bitten.

I personally feel that all breeders and distributors need to include warnings with their snakes "Warning, ball pythons can become addictive". I thought I was just going to have Kashmire and that would be that. Now I've got two girls coming in January and if all goes as planned, a 100% het hypo and 100% het pied (both males) will be joining our household this spring/summer!

Snakes also don't bark at the door when the same person they've known for 5 years drops by, every time, like it's a stranger! They don't drink water then drool it across the kitchen floor for unwary bare morning toes that are just trying to tippy toe to the blessed coffee machine to find! They rarely chew shoes....especially just the right one of the pair you saved months to buy and there was only one pair left in your size anyways! So far none of mine have humped anyone's leg!

There should be a warning though that not only are they addictive, they come with a free case of OCD.

    Welcome to our world! :P

My name is RuLyn, and sadly I've been an addict since 1985, but unable to do a d*** thing about it----UNTIL NOW!! :w00t:

3 and counting.....and planning and drooling until I can make arrangements for the 100% het albino male in Bend, and getting a baby Dumeril's. *sigh* Aaaaack!!! Withdrawl symptoms!! :fork: It's 20deg HERE, which means it's colder than a (YOU pick your fav!) in Bend! Waaaaaaaaaaaaah! :crying:

I feel your pain Alex, and Lira...I totally understand. There should be warnings but if you've got to be an addict, whatta way to go!!! :P

I think I have a herp addiction as well. I just purchased a blue tongued skink and he is at my local reptile store getting acclimated as we speak. I saw him today and he could not possibly be any cuter. I am in love

I luv my BP guy soooo much, but since I have gotten him, my eyes have been opened to all the other kinds of reptiles that can make good pets. Blue tongued skinks seemed like the best next choice. I cannot wait to get him home. :)

Hi, my name's Sue. I haven't actually been addicted that long - but it only took one try and I just keep needing more ... now I have another one - but imagine the direction my mind took when hubby mentioned an extension so our youngest could have a larger room rather than the box room - no, I'm not planning wonderful decor for her future new bedroom - but the best positioning of multiple-vivs in the ex-bedroom-boxroom - and should I invest in a racking system and how many occupants can I fit in it :w00t:

Petsmart is trying to fuel my addiction! The Petsmart I work at was selected as the test store to carry snakes. The specialty employees are my friends and they're good people.. I'm sure they'll take good care of those snakes!

    Re: I've been bitten!
Scuse me Mr. Glass but I do NOT have a snake addiction! I'm just here for the free coffee and donuts!

I firmly deny that I am in fact in denial about my little "issue". Now excuse me but I'm simply hours behind in my morning schedule of coffee, checking all my favorite breeder sites, making sure all my tubs temps and humidity are bang on, checking which snake is doing what, reorganizing my budget yet again and.....errrrrrr........ummmm....

    I do NOT have a problem...really....help meeeeeeeeeeee

    :P

This post would be much funnier if it weren't so true ;)

I love my little BP, he's opened up a new world for me... but no one told me they were like pringles or M&M's... I can not believe I'm seriously considering buying a rack (the nice 4 tote one at reptile basics). I can just imgine my hubby's face as he starts panicing. "Four! Four totes?!? Why does it have four totes? I know your not thinking of putting cocker spaniels in there!" :dog:

And then I'll say something like... "Well hon, Ball Pythons have been known to spontaniously clone... yeah, the clones look just like Barzilian Ranbow Boas" :floating:

my problem has been that i have too many hobbies... everything from snowboarding, playing in bands, to building cars, camping. now though, i find myself selling off possessions to finance more snakes and spring breeding projects - i think that's a warning sign.

Honey, that's not a warning sign, that's a Green flag! (We won't say red flag, because we are in the same boat)
