CWD Enclosure too big for Indoor
Well... I finally took delivery of my new enclosure but I have encountered a huge problem. And it was my mistake!
When builder asked for measurements I was near the front door of house and measured there.
Well turns out all the room's door's are 7" less wide and I never realized!!!
So I can't bring the enclosure in the house!!! Won't fit anywhere!
Best thing I can do is either keep the enclosure outside or sell the enclosure [emoji17]
I cant return it since it was custom made by the builder.
The thing is I am not sure if I could keep my water dragon outside.
He is 2 years old about getting to a growth spur.
I live in central CA Bakerafield area.
I would say it's fairly hot here. In the winter night temps will drop to about 25° coldest and that will probably happen in the coldest night ever so maybe once around January.
Right now nights are 50°-40°
Days are 80°-90° soon to be 60°-70°.
There are also fish in there. Like 4 basking spots.
Idk what to do [emoji17]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...be533d2a67.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b2c50ebf32.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f206e8bdfd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...29d62a571d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d64ba0e479.jpg

Major "oops"! I haven't a clue what temperatures are required (or desired) for a CWD- ? :confusd: Hard to answer, how about giving us a clue? But in general, I'd say NO to keeping this outside - way too much variation (heat & cold temperature extremes) & there's no insulation. Other risks outside too- invasive ants for one thing. (I'm a former Californian.)
But if it fits in your front door, why not keep it in the main part of the house? I sure don't hide all my snakes in other rooms- anyone coming in can "like it or lump it"- it's your house, you should enjoy what's in it, & wherever you want it- eh? I just don't think outside is a safe or workable option, nor in a garage.

Did you give the builder some kind of "theme" for inspiration?
The cuts, overspray, and overall construction is just rough. Was it on purpose?
That big rock up high makes me nervous too.

Yes it was build this way on purpose. Don't worry none of the rocks are heavy. That one up there is probably 2 pounds haha they must be hollow

The temps are about right for cwd. They are hardy for cold as well. It gets much colder in a chinese rainforest. It basks in the daytime to its optimum temps of course.
Also, I cant keep it inside as it is my parents home. They don't want it in there [emoji17]

Heat builds up really well in any sort of enclosure in the sun- like an oven. It would have to be in shade "24-7", even when the sun changes angles, for safety.

Our house is pretty much surrounded by a porchse. You can probably fit 12 worth of shade in it. It's like a side yard and backyards porsche. No way for sun to hit as sun only faces front of house. But still concerned... dang

I guess you're out of options then. I hope it works out okay.

Talk to your builder. If it was put together it can be taken apart. Me being a Caveman would use a Nerf blade to take it apart then screws an glue to put it back together.
It’s like putting a car in the classroom.
Good luck!

An interior doors are easy an cheaper to remove from the studs. Then you could remove a jack stud or studs an the cage will fit in any room. If you can’t do it yourself CA prices would be under 1K. Under $200 in my AO to remove an reinstall.
Good luck!

Are you talking about modifying the home's doorways? I think you missed the part about this being his parent's home, lol. And they're just "not that into it"...

Not modifying any doorway. Removing the door an frame an maybe a hack stud. Move the cage in an rehang the door. Clean up would take longer then removing the frame. Removing a jack stud is five minutes, less with a Sawzall.
I still say call the builder an take it a part.
Good luck!

Unfortunately for this enclosure it isn't just remove screws and cut.
Also. We aren't talking about length here. We are talking width.

As I stated, call the builder. Using a Nerf blade (if screws can't be removed) would give you six pieces. That being the top, sides, back, front and bottom. Then I would screw an glue it back together. If it was steel an welded, the welds would be cut an reweld. If it was built it can be taken apart. Heck, today molded stuff can be cut up an put back together without showing a seam. There are a ton of ways to "fix" your problem. Some would require more skill then others. You could turn the cage into a modular set up. A saw, some channel, screws an caulk would give you a three piece cage.
Removing a door an frame (an jack studs if needed) could be easier. Talk to the builder (first) an any carpenters (framers if removing a door, cabinet guys for the cage) you know. Work smart not hard!
Good luck!

I'm sure it can be done. I will ask and see... I just don't want to pay hundreds of dollars for a 'repair' like this. Which is what will happen I'm sure. Damn

If you can sell the cage you might get 80%. Building a new one would be x + any loss from the first one. Shoot for half your replacement cost if modding the cage or removing the door frame an studs an replacing. If you move an the cage goes with you it’s that fee again plus 10%.
But friends of friends an family might do it for dinner. Check all your options before jumping.
Heck somebody on this forum might live close an have skills.
Good luck!

I made a deal with the builder and he is willing to make me a smaller one but I return this one, and he keeps the money as well. Great deal I might lose some features but at this point it's a sure thing so far
