Pic of Sri
Hey guys,
Just wanted to share some pics of Sri with ya guys. I am not sure if its a female or a male. The previous owner did not know it too. Im gonna get it probed soon tho. Its about 8 months old and did not even hiss when i transferred it to the new home. Im gonna give it a week to settle down before getting to know it more. Its a gorgeous blood and a captive bred.
Enjoy!

It is a beauty, and I am not partial to bloods. Anyone know how they got to be called "Blood" pythons, anyway?

Re: Pic of Sri
Lovely snake! I've always assumed that they call them bloods due to their color but I'm not really sure either. Kara likely knows LOL.

Re: Pic of Sri
Yes blood because they are often blood red.
Beautiful snake there! Has some lovely cherry color coming in, and I love the pattern!

Very nice specimen!
I love it when they have the very pronounced ankh's on their heads like that!

Re: Pic of Sri
Thank you for the kind words. I checked it this morning and it seems to be doing well .. except that it was not in any of the hides .. it was lying in the open .. half buried in the aspen. Is this normal ? The previous owner did not provide any hides for it. The cage setup is a steril tub measuring 2.5 foot wide and about 1 foot in length. I have placed 4 hides (each corner), a water dish, and lots of aspen. Any thoughts ?

Re: Pic of Sri
Sometimes snakes prefer to dig in substrate rather than go in hides.
Are the hides tight and secure? Are they big enough?
-
Re: Pic of Sri
i would think its big enough, i have placed variety of sizes in the cage just to gauge its preferance. The same size hides are used for bps that are equivalent to the size of Sri and they love it. Maybe Sri prefers to bury herself, but then why not bury herself in the hide ? Hmmm.....

Re: Pic of Sri
She may not feel she needs the hide. Did you 'show' her where the hides are? When I put a snake in a new cage I hold them so their head goes in the doorway to the hide.. normally the rest of them follows in.

Re: Pic of Sri
I sure did .. i placed it right in front of the hide and closed the cage .. i could then see through the opaque screen that it was slithering around exporing a little and finally settled down to this one spot. It has been lying there ever since .. moving a bit every now and then. I am gonna try using a humid box when i get back .. although i dont have any moss, is soaking aspen a good idea ?

Re: Pic of Sri
Very nice. Is Sri short for something?
-
Re: Pic of Sri
I personally wouldn't soak aspen.. I guess it wouldn't hurt, but moss really is good for keeping the humidity up.

Ok, here is the dictionary definition of Sri..
Sri or Shri noun 1 formerly an honorific title that in India precedes the name of a deity or a distinguished person.
So basically, im gonna just refer it as Sri till i probe it, which i will then add a name after her majestic title :) Hope that clears it
