BP not eating, staying on cool side.
Well here’s another “BP not eating thread”. Little information, snake has been in its newest enclosure for close to a year now, have a RHP inside and 2 hides. She has been staying on the cool side a lot lately, and I mean always on cool side, I never see her in her warm hide or even out of hide minus getting water. Last feeding was a month ago that she excepted. I usually get my rats from Bigcheese, they were out forever, kept getting raped by petco, but then recently ordered from rodentpro and she just hasn’t taken any.
What do you guys think? I was planning on warm bathing her tomorrow after work to see if she goes bathroom to see if that’ll help.

No need to bathe. Will only add stress and contribute to a pattern of not feeding. A month without food for an adult Royal is nothing.

What are the temperatures (highest & coolest) in her enclosure? If your RHP isn't controlled by a thermostat, it might be too hot, ever think of that? You need to check -for safety!- with an accurate thermometer. And if it IS too hot (over 91* on any surface she can touch) she can be burned by it. Are you seeing any redness on her?

My thoughts exactly.. the warm hide could easily be far too hot which would explain things

Are you testing temps ( especially under the warm hide ) ??

Have a herpstat 1 on the enclosure, set on high side at 85 degrees. I received my Acurite today and will be putting that in tomorrow because I do not have a AAA battery currently. Now the one I bought has only 1 sensor so I’ll move it back and forth to get the temps in both areas till my next one comes in.

And 85* is too low for the warmest area -IF THAT'S ACCURATE?...you want about 90*. No matter what it says, it might be way off, too high or too low-
you need to check.

Was able to find a AAA battery, so I never messed with one of these Acurite thermometer’s before. Says record high and low values are recorded for display IN and probe OUT temp/humidity.
So am I going off the temp on the In or Out?
Out is showing right now 95.5 degrees, In is showing a min of 72 and max of 75.7.

Any recommended temp guns? Can’t tell the brand on that picture.

They are all pretty decent ... I've got three of eBay or Amazon all different makes all under $10 and are all within one degree of each other .

Ok I will have to check some out and order. When I get home from work I’ll see what my Acurite says since it’s been sitting for a longer time.
-
So accurite is saying 96 degrees which is above the hide on warm side (directly below the RHP) so looks like I have to turn that down. I am moving the accurite now to the cool side to see what that is. Humidity was a little low so I sprayed with water.
-
By the way, if you're heating ONLY with that RHP, I wonder what the temperature is INSIDE the "warm" hide? (Also check after you lower the heat.)

Re: BP not eating, staying on cool side.
Looks like the warm side ( and hide ) are simply far too warm which explains why it’s always on the cool side ..

Re: BP not eating, staying on cool side.
We’ve yet to hear any info regarding the age, weight, etc on this animal. I’ll reiterate that a month without food isn’t worth wasting the brainpower on solving unless there are obvious issues associated with it like substantial weight loss, glaring husbandry issues, etc...

I like to keep the warm spot no hotter than 88 degrees. Most breeders you’ll find Don’t use 90 to 92. It’s a little high. Peace ✌️

But look at the bright side, we got them to actually CHECK the temperature. That's important no matter what.

Which may well save its life and lead to it eating again.

I agree...and especially because most measuring devices can be off by a degree or two- it's just better not to push the upper limit, "just in case".

I will get the weight tomorrow, but far as age, roughly 6-7 years old. I did lower the temperature and monitoring the thermostat. Notice the humidity is low even after a mist, not sure if I misted enough but I thought I went a little to much.
Enclosure is a animal plastic T8, with two hides properly sized and using reptile prime coconut fiber bedding.

Mine used to eat over winter, but hasn't done so for many years now.
And last year mine didn't eat for 8 months (partially due to laying eggs after the winter period), then she ate 17 rats in a row without missing a meal.
She's reached 3000g again (from 1900g after laying) so I'm slowing down her feeding, but she probably won't eat the next one anyway as its now winter.
So I can't speak for other older ball pythons, but some don't like to eat over winter, which could be why yours isn't.
