    ? about poo!
I was under the impression that there are two kinds of python excrement. Urates (solid yellow whitish things) and poo (brown, lumpy little hairy things). Well he leaves me urates about every other day, and a little brown hairy thing a couple of days after he eats. Both are odorless and easy to pick up. He just got done with a shed, and left me copious amounts of stinky brown gooeyness in his hide. Is this normal? Was he saving it up for shed time or what? Are the little dryer hairy things poo as well? I never thought I'd wonder so much about snake sh!@ :confuse:

You know I thought after my 4th child left his infancy behind I'd never have to examine another living thing's poop either! Guess I was wrong! LOL

Mine often leave a mess wrapped inside their shed ball but quite honestly I've never looked to see it's relative gooeyness. Was this like loose stool left seperate from the shed or a mess inside the actual shed?

Funny I never thought I'd ever ask a complete stranger to describe the texture and location of his snake's doo doo either! Amazing where life leads one.....

it was right near the shed, a pretty massive pile of it in comparison to the size of what I usually pick up. I found it odd because he poos about once a week normally, but apparently he was saving a little something every week for a special occassion! I don't know that runny is the word to describe it, but it was certainly holding more moisture than what I am used to seeing from him!

Well hopefully Becky (resident poop expert) or someone else can comment here. I'm used to basically see either something inside a shed balls or just their normal stool which to me just looks like a cat turd all in all (sometimes a pretty impressive prize winner cat turd though LOL).

    Yay poop! LoL :)

Back to the "business" at hand(and keep your hands out of your mouth). Normal ball python feces should resemble cat feces, minus the "gag-a-maggot" stench of cat feces. It should be firm as loose stools indicate parasites(or sometimes an off day).

My girl tends to wait until a day after she sheds to let it all go. Such fun. At least I get to save the sheds, as she doesn't leave me little wrapped presents everytime, LoL. But hey, at least they are usually kind enough to WRAP the "presents" beforehand :)

It's always good to get a fecal done at least once per year. Shouldn't cost more than $10-$20. Take a small sample, half a teaspoon is a good amount, place it in a paper towel, in a ziplock baggie, and place it in the fridge until the next morning when you can drop it off at the vet's. There's no need to keep the feces moist or anything. I've done fecals on rodent poo that was over a week old(think HARD to break apart) and still found parasites galore. It's better if it's fresh, but if it takes one or two days before you can get it to the vet, it's ok.

Anywho, that's your up to date poop talk for this evening. ;)

What about the hairballs? When I first got my guy a year ago, I found a couple. They basically just looked like a hairball. I haven't seen any for a long time, but I always wondered if that was just extra fur from the rats, and why I haven't seen any since if that's the case?

Oh man, I just had one of those tonight. Treated myself to a KFC poutine and a chicken sammitch combo after a long day(and partial night) of buying and setting up lights and decorations for the front yard. Man it was good...hadn't had one in ages. :hungry:

Not to stray from the subject...

As for the fur, unless you're missing a few cats or a sweater or something, it's most likely from the rats. As far as I know, it's perfectly normal to find fur in their stool. And the amount of the fur depends on what the snake used or didn't use as nutrients, I suppose, lol.

On a slightly different topic...Does anyone else, when finding a nice log in their snake's enclosure, have evil thoughts to wrap it up in a Tootsie Roll wrapper and offer it to someone? :devilish: That, or I'll get a craving for a Tootsie Roll. Either or, really.

Sorry, I'm still coming down from my poutine gorging. :eyepoppin

You think that's bad. You should be mistaken for a Yankee in the South!! Sheesh. Maryland is below the Mason Dixon line folks, so technically we're a southern state. Of course everyone further north thinks we're southerners and everyone else thinks we're Yankees. Maryland the unloved, unclaimed state. :tears: ;)

What I always find hilarious is when folks here in Michigan make comments about Mike having to go find a decent wife "up north in Canada".

Look at a map....where we live in Northern Michigan, USA is actually geographically further north than where I was born and raised in Southern Ontario, Canada. I actually moved north to marry Mike! What in heck was I thinking!

My only experience in Canada has been in the Toronto area, and to be honest, I thought Toronto was almost exactly like Chicago, except it was cleaner. Oh, yeah, and they give you vinegar to put on your french fries.

LMAO on the vinegar with fries...first time I was in the southern US and asked for white vinegar for my fries the waitress looked at me oddly, then drawled out some thing about "okay but we wash stuff with that!"

Toronto the Good....how I miss thee! LOL (or as we natives prounounce it....Ter-ran-ah)

The REAL Mason/Dixon line is where the HOV lane begins on I-95. Everything above that is the north, below is the south. I moved to fairfax to go to GMU my freshman year of college, hated it, and fled back to richmond (i got to VCU now). Never realized I missed the south until I left!

I don't drink coffee. My hubby bought them for me as a treat on his way home from work, and he was the one drinking the double-double. But yes, I had the jam ones! They only gave us like 2 of those in the whole damn box though. Most were old-fashioned, glazed and chocolate glazed. And then cruellers, YUCK! They don't even taste cooked inside.

See, if *I* were the one going to buy the Timbits, you bet your @@@ I'd sit there and pick out all 40 individually! I don't want to waste my money on those gross raisin ones.

My hubby picked them up as a treat on the way home from a long day though, so I couldn't really complain. I dealt with it by feeding the raisin ones to the dog. LOL!

Eww! The raisins have a weird texture, like they're not even real raisins. I bit into one accidentally yesterday and about gagged. I'll keep in mind that other (weird) people actually like them and horde them for mail delivery. Hopefully they won't be stale by the time you get them. :D

My dog will be sad though. I'm a pretty picky eater and he gets all the stuff I don't want... no wonder he's a tub of goo.

Aww, I like those raisin timbits. :( I like all the timbit flavours except for the chocolate one with the powdered sugar on them. Don't know why. I guess it's the chocolate flavour of the donut itself.

As for driving the Tim Hortons staff nuts, my family is really easy on them. When we go for donuts, we just go to the drive-thru and say "A dozen donuts please, mostly chocolate" and we're done. Apparently "mostly chocolate" is code for "throw in a bunch of those really good ones that are chocolate donut with chocolate icing on them". Mmmmm, love those. That, and the crullers. Oh man, lately I've been just getting a dozen crullers, but had to stop because they apparently don't make too many, and I was always making them short on them. :)
