    kisses
    Figured i my-as-well introduce myself
Im more of an arachnogirl... snakes seem to be the new tarantula;)

Heelllo, my name is meagan, im a 16 year old, my current habitat is Canada :D

Heres raoule! (my pride and joy)---- My 4 foot male ball, i love him to pieces.
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...inder/8f8f.jpg

I rescued him off a couple who had no idea what they were doing. He was on fertilizer/potting soil, had no water, was dehydrated, aggressive, and hungry.
He also had no source of heat, and a respiratory infection... He was living in a 2foot by 1 foot cage. He is now in an extremely large cage, that i may be able to live in :D, Is extremely healthy, a ferocious eater, and seemingly happy. After a few months of handling, he realized i wasnt so bad :P and now we chill and watch tv. So proud of the little guy, He came to my highschool, and did a speech with me on false publicity on snakes. And now we are going to districts. (he was a wee scared, stayed in the hood of my sweater the whole time) but he stayed calm, and let people "aww" over him. Because i love the doll so much, got a 3 foot female boa constrictor on the way.

    Isnt he precious?

Welcome to the forum, Meagan! Great of have another younger owner on board! Sounds like you've done wonders for your snake and given him a fantastic life with you.

It's also wonderful to see you out there trying to educate the public about proper snake husbandry and information. Maybe some of the young adults will think twice or research more before they get a snake that isn't perhaps the bes choice for them (and a lot of adults too of course). Best of luck at districts!

What kind of boa are you getting?

Hi Meagan. What a lovely pic of you both. When snakes give you little kisses like that to me it shows they trust you (I shall get pilloried again but I personally think it's their way of showing affection). We have a rescue BP too and he is now starting to give me the occasional kiss but is still quite shy.

Fantastic that you're educating people too. Big thumbs up on that one:D

thank you both :D... Yeah, Im kind of tired of the disrespect these animals get, so i decided to reinform my english honours class :D. My buds have told their folks they held my snake and some of my fav responses were
    "whats wrong with her parents"
" you better have washed your hands, you'll get a disease"
A few of my friends werent allowed to come over when i first got him.:O Just shows the ignorance of some people. Im glad my parents are so supportive and can respect all my misunderstood animals. ( they dont like them that much either). The most rewarding thing of all of it though, is when i tell my parents all this info, and its like they aren't listening. But then when another adult questions their sanity, they replay the information i have given them, defend my beasts and reinform people with correct information. My two little cousins are no longer afraid of spiders, and scorpions and snakes. Pretty happy, they are going to grow up with an equal respect to all living things.:D

That's great Meagan! There is so much nameless fear and misinformation about snakes and other "exotics" out there.

We have 4 kids from ages 18 down to 4 and they are all as snake crazy as Mike and I, well other than the littlest who just wants a puppy LOL. We get a lot of folks that ask sort of wierd questions about having snakes and kids and just don't get that your average ankle biter size dog is more risk to my youngest than our snakes are. Oh well, education is always a good thing LOL.

aww... its so cute when exotic enthusiasts influence their children... Toddlers + cornsnakes deffinately equal adorable :)
btw, its just a normal redtail boa. My minimum wage job isnt currently supporting anything else.:D (besides two new leopard geckos, and a new scorp)

hey meagan, welcome to the site! It's awesome what you're doing, both rescuing an obviously unhappy snake and giving him a better life and educating the general public about one of the most misunderstood pets out there! It's nice to see people putting their english skills to good use!

    p.s good luck in districts!

i homeschool my kids and we educate people on different 'pets' all the time as well... it's part of the reason we got a dexter (ball python) - so we can show others snakes are okay.

in january we are having our homeschooling group over to the house... they'll be able to meet dexter, our bearded dragons, geckos, frogs, toads and check out our fish tanks then... it's amazing what sponges kids are... i love it.

good for you... taking the time and effort to educate your friends and their parents.

    and welcome to the forum!

    Re: kisses
Oh redtails are lovely. Not the most rare or whatever but I adore the "common" columbian boa we are fostering right now. They do get a darn good size and pretty heavy, especially the females but, at least with this male we have, their personality is very laid back.

They do seem to have a longer strike range comparitive to their total body length then a ball python so use the really long tongs LOL. My hubby fed the 5.5 foot columbian with a shorter set and got a lovely "road rash" on his hand when Rauri overshot the mark! I swear Rauri was more upset than my husband, Mike! LOL

If you have a look at the BCI/BCC forum you should find some good pics of Rauri as well as jglass's big female columbian and other ones as well.

Sorry I'm a little late on this one! A huge congratulations to you Meagan! To take your love of little misunderstood animals ( ;) ) and go past basic pet keeping to public education is wonderful! I have a teensy little hatchling corn (she's a whole whopping 24 g) in my bio classroom for the same purpose. It's great that your parents support you and your hobby!

Keep up the good work, people need to be informed more. That goes for those who don't like them and would never own one to the people who buy them that don't know anything about them.

Whole lotta leg-humping going on in this thread, lol...

Luckily there's not too many creepjobs on here. Except maybe myself and kavmon, since richmond was named the 5th most dangerous city in the US.

I digress...nice looking snake, just up the feedings a little bit and keep him warm, he'll fill out for you. Males tend to stay on the lean side anyway...
