HELP! Please identify snake for care (my first rescue)
Hi I’ve just made my first rescue and I don’t have a clue as to what kind of snake this is. I was told it might be from South America. It is about a year old as far as anyone knows. It is 19inches long and about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch at its widest point. It is a beautiful little snake my picture doesn’t do justice but my good cam has dead batts. I brought it home Friday night she was found in cage with no water, dirt for a substrate and snails in with her. I tossed that cage put her in the tank I normally use to feed ginger (my ball) and last night she hammered down 2 thawed pinkies.) She appears to be ok. I would like to know what kind of snake she is so I can make sure her temps and care will be right.

Long story short. The snake was found in the room of women who ran out on the people she was renting from. The police are looking for her for numerous crimes including identity theft. She’s not coming back and she’s not getting the snake back if some how she dose. the image is a clickable thumb

Good job on the rescue! It's always good to see somebody with snake-handling experience taking in an orphaned pet!

Good that you took the poor thing in! Just remember to do strict quarantine from your other snake(s) and with her horrible background maybe a vet check and fecals would be a good idea.

Hope she does well for you. BRB's are such lovely looking snakes (though I've only seen pictures so far).

I think that it is a Columbian Rainbow Boa, not a Brazilian. They are less expensive and not as pretty, but a good snake and need the same care as a BRB. I'm not 100% sure, but pretty darn sure... :) . I wish you had a clearer pic.

Try matching them up with the adds on kingsnake. It's definitly one or the other. They are pretty much the same snake, but different colors. The BRB is more intense looking than the Columbians.

the lines on the head and the pattern are very pronouced like BRBs....columbians have a much 'blander' look to them...it is a BRB ;)

the lines are definately well defined and crisp. i got new batts will be geting a better pic soon i dont want to bother her (all snakes aRE a her till proven otherwise ;) ) too much. she is very dosle but active flicks toung alot and is alert. i have her on cypress mulch now like my ball. gave her one of gingers old hides (after viral saning it) some plants to hide and explore in under and have reset the spare thermisat. i keep all my babys in seprate cages. i checked her very carefully for mites and such and left over sheds didnt find any stuck eycaps or anthing her original cage was very moist (no temp or humidy gages) but it was damp. and most importantly made sure she was liveing longer than a month no ird for me thanks ;) shes siting in her new hide (she had this big half log thing originaly. and her head is poking out of the hole. :). im going to be geting her a better perminate cage form animal pastics soon.

can you please post a pic of your "corn" snake? where did you see that boas have wider heads? there are many different kinds of boas. some have heads the same width of there body such as rubber and rosie boas and some dont. it all depends what species your talking about.

I'm pretty sure that is a colombian, it is not the orange color of a brb. We have both kind at my work, so I have seen both as neonates. The snake will brown out as she matures and lose most of the pattern altogether. Nice find!

I agree, Crb's and Brb's are hard to tell apart when they are small. They BOTH have the lines on the head and the same design, but Brb's are more defined and brighter colored then Crb's.

Those are full size ones. When they are young they look alike and it's hard to tell the difference. I'm only giving my two cents if you disagree that IS ok. It very much could be a BRB...it was a bad pic. :)

lol wow its a rare ball python i have one too named ginger. ill take a beter pic of Cheyenne tonihgt and post it friday or sat. im going to be buying a new small ap cage for her till she grows into a biger one. as i also want a green tree python much later it will come in usefull to have a good starter cage for my pets while they are small and need the security. i dont like keeping my animals in glass or clear plastic cages. im thinking she's a columbian too shes definately a very light orange tan collor but maybe its becuase shes so small and her color has yet to develop. but the markings are very defined.

side note.. she also is buroing in the mulch makeing her own nest for during the day i went to check on her when i feed the dragons and she wasnt in her hide. i thought she got out but there was pile in one corner and she was in / under it and the plants in the cage. at night she is in the hide and pokeing her head out the hole, just like ginger.....
