How Do You Make a Snake Sweater?
This is not an urgent question, but I am wondering if anyone has any links or tips to share on how to knit a tube-shape sweater for BPs. My boy loves soft small places so I figure I'll give him a sweater to see if he likes it (I won't force it if he doesn't). I have the supplies but absolutely no knitting experience. I tend to have good beginner's luck when it comes to crafty things but have found no tutorials or instructions online for snake-shaped sweaters. Any information or sources would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Why go to all that trouble? Buy some inexpensive cotton tube sox... No sweater is ever going to stay ON a snake, but many enjoy curling up inside such things.
Or you can snip a sleeve off an old shirt...(& wash your car with the rest of it).

Re: How Do You Make a Snake Sweater?
My main motivation for making it myself is an attempt to stay busy and artistic during quarantine downtime. I've had friends whose snakes loved sweaters so I figured I'd give it a try for Wishbone. I've seen suggestions for sleeves or even baby leg warmers which are good options, I just want to try homemade first.

If you're really just trying to stay busy, why not teach him to dribble a basketball? ;) (jkg!) We'll expect a "fashion show" then...:snake:

I'd use double pointed needles and knit on the round. Start by looking up how to do the stitches. Knit and pearl stitches are the basic essentials. There's a TON of youtube videos on these. You'll also want to know the rib stitch. Then you'll want to look up double pointed needles and knitting on the round. Once you have gotten comfortable with that (maybe try making a hat or something to practice), then you just have to basically make a long skinny tube with rib stitch "hems."

Let us know how it turns out!! I've been thinking about doing this myself, just for funsies!

    Have fun!

I'd say look into spool knitting. Super easy and it comes out as a perfect tube. Just make sure the tube size you chose is big enough.

Lol so I finally made one. Thought you might like to see it lol. I used seed stitch for the main body and rib stitch for the "turtle neck" and hem. It's about 2 ft long and 3.5 in. In diameter.

Yep! You know me! I like to spoil my babies and I might just have to get in on the sweater thing! Or maybe I can make them some cute little fabric pocket hides to go in when I have them out. One of mine crawled into the hood on my sweatshirt and was in there for an hour. I tryly think he just went in there and went to sleep and since I was just relaxing, watching TV, I let him be for a bit.

I think I'd worry about a snake slipping (falling) out of the hood on my sweatshirt (I don't stay seated long), but I have a long "sweatshirt" robe & they like the 'kangaroo
pocket' in front. ;) They'd probably love to spend time in a waist pack lined with faux fur too & peeking out the zipper. :snake: You can keep an eye on them that way too, plus they get the warmth from your body.

Yeah, I would be worried about the hood too if I were walking around. I was in my recliner when he got in there so I let him have a little nappy then got him out when I got back up. The front pocket of a hoodie would be a great place though! [emoji102][emoji102][emoji102]

Yeah, it's almost like the designers had our pets in mind. :D And waist packs can be worn in front too. I happen to like using them (keeps my hands free when shopping, & don't slide off my shoulder), & one time my rosy boa attended a gathering with me in my waist pack. (I was "dared" to, LOL!) She was very comfortable & no one knew until I wanted them to...:snake:

    Yup...:D

I have all these nice purses & have come to hate hauling them around...I like my hands free, & the heck with "fashion", lol. I have a couple small waist packs that I use most of the time, & yes, they also work for snakes & come in all sizes. Just don't let down your guard (or fall asleep), as snakes have been known to open zippers. :snake:

They come in various sizes, materials, colors...I have both leather & Cordura nylon type. I like to carry necessities with me but I've never been one of these women with
EVERYTHING in a HUGE purse, lol. An example...most have multiple compartments, but some only one.

Aww this is so precious! The sweater looks great and that photo is too cute! :D

I wonder if the sweater prevents the snake from moving though since they need friction under their scutes to slither

    that is AMAZING hahaha

On a related note for the recent comments, I know someone who uses a cloth cat carrier to lug their 8 foot long yellowtail cribo to the park and lets them out to explore and take pics. LOL (Disclaimer: would not recommend doing this for pythons or other climate-sensitive species)

She just slithered right through it. It did not hinder her at all once she decided to move lol. The whole thing is very stretchy and wasn't tight around any point of her body lol
