i hope that pic works. anyways, me and my dad were getting some solar water heaters for his boss at our 22 acre property and there were three little baby scorpions underneath one. they were only about a half inch long. so can anyone tell me what kind of scorpion we found?

If we knew where you were from it would help. A few general rules to live by though. This is only from my limited scorpian experience.

    1. The clearer the scorpian, the more venomous.
    2. The smaller the scorpian, the more venomous.

We kept em in big jars when I was stationed in Arizona and, fed them any bugs we could find. Probably not the best hobby, but it kept us bored airmen entertained.

IMO, I wouldn't grab it with my bare hands. I am researching Cali Scorps right now. I will post anything interesting that I find for you.

That link may help a little. Research is a wonderful tool. I search just about anything I don't know. Maybe your county has a listing or something.

Don't touch any scorp you don't know.. lol obviously.

The desert hairy scorpion has a relatively weak venom and it's 'clear' or light colored. Those rules don't always work.

The only rule I need Shelby. Spiders and bugs freak me out. I watched Arachnaphobia my first night in Saudi Arabia with two Majors I was sharing a villa with. After the movie we all went out to have a smoke, and the told me about camel spiders. Those are some gruesome creatures. Needless to say I didn't sleep for days. I just don't mess with spiders. I used to love them, but the more I learned the less I loved.

LOL Lars my husband also served in Saudi with the US Army and freaked me out telling me about those huge camel spiders *shudder* I don't even like a common household spider and he's busy describing those things! *shudder shudder*

Camel spiders are so creepy looking.. I love them! The uglier and nastier it is, the more I like it! ;)

Giant vinegaroons and tailless whipscorpions are very cool/ugly too. :)

Re: can anybody tell me what kind of scorpion this is?
More than likely, it is a bark scorpion. At least thats what it looks like to me, the same ones I used to have to check my room/bedding for with a black light every night. Taske it from me, they will make you sick something aweful if stung. Yes, I found that out by experience.

Ick!!!!! Ick Ick Ick... I hate spiders! I think if I ever saw one of those, I'd die on the spot from fright.

I visited Europe last year and found a HUGE spider in my room... I stayed frozen solid until my roomy came to see what was up. She had to kill it, and she was terrified too! :P I'm such a wuss when it comes to eight legged creatures... BLECH!

    Absolutely untrue.

The scorpion A. bicolor is one of the hotter scorpions in the world, and it's about 5 inches. It's dark brown or black. However, it's not a native species.

Basically, don't pick up any scorpion and treat it as if it were hot, and you'd be safer. I think Arizona Bark Scorpions are the only dangerously hot scorpions in the US, but I'm not a native scorpion expert.

I do think that is some sort of bark scorpion, but I need a closer picture to make any sort of real guess.

i hate spiders soo much too, but we had to study on them in science, they had HUGE closeups that freaked me out! i had to cover the picture with my hand when i was reading it at first, but then i got used to it and didnt have to cover it at all. LOL just thought i would share the story.:)

Simple rules like this are almost never true. You'll hear people say that only venomous snakes have a vertical pupil.. or any snake with a fat head is venomous.. etc etc.
