    Cornell, my Jungle Carpet Python
Meet Cornell, my Jungle Carpet Python from Riley Jimison of Riley's Reptiles.

He eats like a champ and hits hard for such a little guy!!! I've only done a little handling to this point, but since he's get a few meals in him I'll start getting him out more...

Here are some random pics from the first few times he was out.

C'mon Tapatalk, get it right this time...

    Thanks guys!!!

I'm definitely loving this guy too. He seems like he may be a little more work than Fernie. He's not as quick to strike, but much more skittish and flighty, super alert and pretty much always "S'd up" ready to pop. It'll be interesting to see if he kinda "turns that corner" like Fernie did or if it's more of a gradual transition for him.

Either way I love working with them and earning their trust, learning their different personalities and learning to read each animal as an individual. They're so much fun.

    I'll keep y'all updated 😁

I took Cornell outside for a bit today. Damn I love the natural sunlight on him!!

He's definitely feisty when getting him out of his enclosure. He wants to run and strike like crazy, tagging the hook too. Thrashes when I first grab him. But once he's out he's been pretty good so far. He seems to be a little more relaxed while handling. So we're making progress.
Fingers crossed Tapatalk uploads the pics right...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3f929124a9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...499a392a5b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...6a0a2e3a4d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7b113273eb.jpg

I got a few more handling sessions in the past few days and Cornell is already showing signs of developing trust and mellowing out. He's MUCH more relaxed while handling and not spooked by every move. Still a little flighty at first, but only for a minute or so. No strikes at all.

Dude, he's awesome!! I am so smitten with him and Fernie. At this point I'm already thinking the few spaces I have left are going to be filled with another Bredli and/or another couple carpets. But I'm gonna take my time and enjoy these two and the rest of the crew for a while.

That’s great! While I have more Carpets than anything, I’m in the same camp as Gio. I can’t decide which I love the most, Carpets or Boas. Do yourself a favor and consider a Boa, they are special as well.

Butch, Common/Wild Type, though I suspect some Nicaragua. He’s maxed out at 5.5- 6 ft.

I haven't ruled out a boa. I've taken Katie "window shopping" and she's seen a few at expos. She's not a fan for some reason. At this point, she really doesn't care what I add as long as it's not a giant. It's not like she'd say "no". But since she's so good about me keeping snakes I tend to try to appease her too. She does like some of the dreamsicle type stuff though....

Carpets rule, here's no doubt about that, but I agree with Reinz and would suggest considering a boa. If I had gotten into them earlier I'd definitely have more of them. I love their heavy bodies and their slower movement.

Can’t agree more. After all of my retic shenanigans and then getting into carpets and boas, I wish I’d have gotten into them waaaaaaaaay before now.

As a (new) Tarahumara keeper, I'd gently remind you and Katie that Boas don't need to be huge! The typically slow movement of Boas plus the small size and lovely colors of some of the dwarf localities might work out really well for you guys.

Hes still pretty tiny. He weighed in just over 100 grams empty 2 meals ago. I'd guess maybe 20", but that's just a ballpark.

I swear him and my Bredli get longer every day, hahahhaha. They're adding girth too, but mostly length so far.

Beautiful jungle brother! What's not to love about Morelia? There's nothing like seeing them in the sunlight and open spaces imo. He looks big in those pics and he's gonna get even bigger and better as he grows. That's a perfect climbing tree for your carpets too. It has lots of supportive branches but it's not too high for them to get away from you. Get them outside when you can and enjoy the show!!

    Thanks brother!!!

Honestly, I haven't found a thing about Morelia I don't love so far. They're so EASY (so far at least) on top of being such beautiful animals. I've handled adults so I know they can be impressive size and strength, but still easily handleable. I love how curious they are too.

That tree's gonna be great for a few summers, but they'll be too heavy for most of it in a few years. But I'mma take advantage while I can. It'll start blooming soon too, so they'll look great among the green leaves and white flowers.
It'll be cool to follow their growth and color changes each season when going back to the tree.

P.S. I hold YOU largely responsible for my Morelia addiction!!!! So thank you!!! Hahahhahahaha!!! At least I won't need meetings with this addiction!!!

Cornell shed last night.... finally! Hahhahahaha. Maybe I was just impatient [emoji12]

I said I'd get him out for pics the first sunny day. Unfortunately today is overcast, cloudy and humid.
I was able to catch a quick break in the clouds, but the pics came out just ok. His yellows are popping a bit more than before and it looks like his blacks have more shimmer and iridescence.

He's doing well, mellowing out a little. Still hates the camera though! He struck at it three times. But he's now easy to get out of his enclosure and handles really well. Still a bit skittish, but improving.
I've actually ditched the hook with him too. I don't use it with Fernie either. I just let them get a sniff of the back of my hand and they come right out. Easy breezy.

Here's a few pics from today, I'll get more soon.

Damn, he's stunning. Loving your carpet's huh Craig? Pretty cool animals. I wrote about it on his thread, but briefly, Yafe turned a corner at about 475-500G and is 50% more chill than before. He's now a dream to handle and more curious than jumpy. He's also cooling it with the hissing a little bit when I go to take him out. When they gain size and confidence, they are really awesome animals. Plus, both of yours (Fernie is the only other CP, right?) are lookers. Can you imagine them with some real size! Gonna be sweet!

Still think you need a boa though :D!

    Thanks Dave!!!

I am definitely enjoying these two!! I'm excited to see them put on some size, but not gonna rush it. They're both on rat fuzzies now, but probably won't be too long before it's time to upsize. I'm sure they'll hit a growth spurt once they're getting some meals with a little more protein too.

I'm stoked Yafe turned that corner for you. Cornell hasn't yet, but he's just over 100 grams, so I'm sure he just needs a little more size to develop more confidence.

Fernie, on the other hand, I swear she's already turned the corner. She's as sweet as pie. She's not head shy at all, just relaxed and curious. I'm pretty sure I got lucky with her. She's honestly everything I hoped for and more.

I actually showed Katie your reply earlier and her response was "well then maybe you should get a boa next". Hmmmmm... But I don't know, I feel like one more Carpet would be so nice....
