A Tale of Three Boas
As many of you know, I have three boas now. Behira, 3 year and 9 month old Ghost BI, Feliz, 2 1/2 year old Dwarf Venezuelan BC, and Jeff Shemesh, a 1 year and 2 month old VPI T+ Sunglow Motley Jungle BI.
People ask about growth rates, and it's difficult to show that here, with 1 female and two males, one of whom is a dwarf BC. Feliz will max out about Behira's weight now, or even less, at about 4 1/2 - 5FT. However, Jeff will probably be a little larger. For reference, Behira was Feliz's current weight at 1 year and 5 months, and is from the same breeder and is on the same feeding regiment as Jeff Shemesh.
However, I thought I'd show them anyway, in the same container, so people can get an idea. I am also happy to post growth rates and share feeding regiment, etc.
As we all say, less is more with Boas, and it's best to feed appropriate sized meals less often than more often.
This also gives me chance to show off all three of my Boas, and be able to update all at once at least some of the time.
Anyway, without further ado, from smallest to largest.
Also, they are all in the Large Faunarium. http://www.exo-terra.com/en/products/faunarium.php. It's the bottom one in the description, 18" long.
Jeff Shemesh - VPI T+ Sunglow Motley Jungle BI, 1 year and 2 months - 220G +/-.

All very nice, but Feliz is just ridiculous. Very nice boa!!! I'm jealous!!

I love seeing them! They're all so distinctive in terms of color and pattern. Looks like Jeff Shemesh wasn't too keen on staying in that container, haha.

Thank you! Feliz is gorgeous. He's super to handle, but so strong for his size. He really likes to explore and hates going back in his tank! He is also ridiculous when it comes to food drive. Right now it's him, Behira, and then Jeff, followed way behind by Yafe (CP), Figment (Corn), Solana (Corn), and Shayna (BP). Of course the boas lead the way though. They are nuts.
It's funny. I got Feliz because of his "look" and wanted a true red tail/BC, but not something huge (per Katie mostly, but being all muscle I am okay with a dwarf BC, plus I love and respect my wife). I had to talk Tommy Carpenter into selling me one of his two holdbacks. One had a dog bone on his tail and was a beauty, but Feliz was the holdback for color. He busts my chops to this day that he let me buy Feliz off him. He's really turning out to be a stunner.
He took 18 off for his Rio Bravo Dwarf Venezuelan Red Tails/BC's. This past year, they didn't breed. He's got some great locale boas if anyone is interested, but not another Feliz right now.
I really lucked out.
Temperament wise as well as beauty wise. Apparently, these Dwarf Red Tails are sweeties from the day the are born. Many locales are not exactly like that, or it really depends on the individual animal.
It's awesome to have big boa personality in such a small package.

Tommy is a true locality breeder.
I’m happy to see him getting credit here.
You scored a beauty.

He deserves it, not just with Feliz, but I've seen other animals he's produced. He will also take the time to speak with prospective buyers about pros and cons what Boas might be right for them. He also takes the time after the sale, and for years to come, to stay in touch (if desired) and problem solve if needed. He helped me brainstorm an issue with Behira as well (the frequent shedding). All around, a great breeder and guy.

Very nice indeed, good sir!!! :gj::gj:
I gotta say, it's tough to not want to add a boa when I see examples like yours. Gio's Sniper thread, plus this thread...
All beautiful animals, all looking tip top!
Thanks for sharing, Dave!!

I honestly have no clue which direction I'm going next. Despite losing Django, I'm happy with the current crew while I take my time deciding. The two new Aussies will keep me busy for a while.
I would think a January bday present might be the soonest I make any additions. But looking at the smokeshows above...I'll be doing some extended homework.

I hear you brother. No rush. Every year there are more options with boas in terms of patterns and colors and the morphs get cheaper. Let me, and others here, know if you want some help there, when the time is right.
I am not 100% sure yet, but Feliz may get a 6X2' (from a 4X2'), Solana a 4X2' (from a 3X2') and I might not add anyone after losing Kayla. I still have 12 and a great crew at that. I am reserving the right to change my mind, but right now, that's where I am leaning.
Would be nice to have 2 doors instead of one when feeding Feliz. He's an animal, well literally and figuratively.

Thank you! I am thrilled that my boas are doing so well, especially since Behira was my first Boa and I got her almost 3 years ago. I've learned a lot from all of you and did my research. Boas are so rewarding. I am loving them. Who knew I'd end up with 3 and they would be the most dominant species (by number) in the collection?

Thank you EL-Ziggy. Jeff rocks. That tail stripe is wicked. His half sister (VPI T+ Sunglow Jungle Motley het Sharp - Jeff is het Anery) looks very similar, but her stripe is even longer! Amaury Gil, at Boakings, who I got both Jeff and Behira from, sent me a picture of her. She's stunning and her tail stripe is so long. However, I love the amount of pattern Jeff has and he's an awesome boa. So no complaints here.
