I don't know much about bloods but she is easy to handle comparatively to the other one who was tracking anything that moves. I held her for a couple of minuets and she relaxed and never hissed when picked up. Was told she is a Sumatran? She is beautiful IMO. 5 months old. Such a stubby baby. Love her.
Re: New blood on the 1st.
If it’s Sumatran then it’s not a blood python, it’s a short tail python. Two completely different species.
Don’t know much about them...??? Then I’d suggest some thorough research before this animal is in your care.

You beat me to it.
Those are two completely different species with different husbandry requirements.

My boy is a Borneo, so I don't know enough about Sumatrans to offer any quality advice specific to the species.
Good luck!! STPs are really cool animals.

Thanks.

Thanks everyone. Been waiting a long time for this species. To find a female that is chill also is just epic. I have held her a couple of times already and she just mellows right out after she realizes you are going to be calm with her. She is easy to pick up as well.
Re: New blood on the 1st.
I did not want to stress her out so I only took one quick picture and left her in her quarantine tub this morning. After her quarantine Is up I'll try to get more photos. She is 1 year and 2 months old. Eating every 2 weeks. Going to name her Rayne after Bloodrayne the half vampire.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...9f0aea8052.jpg

What would those differences in husbandry requirements be?

Btw nice looking snake. I would get one too but they are just too chunky for me.
I don't keep mine on dry substrate. I don't keep them wet either. I use a mixture of coco fiber and cyprus, and am also trying out coco chip now. The coco chip does dry out on top, but holds humidity, and stays moist underneath the top layer. All the research I did before getting into them tells me that all are kept basically the same way. Richard Crowley's book(which is a must have short-tail/blood keepers imo), and The Blood Cell to name a couple sources. In the book, he talks about the existence of naturally occurring hybrids between the Sumatran Shortail and the Sumatran Blood pythons because their territories overlap. A Blood python(brongersmai) can come from Sumatra, which might be why the OP was told his was Sumatran. This is not my opinion, nor am I any kind of expert, but this info comes from people that have spent decades keeping, researching , and breeding them.
Re: New blood on the 1st.
The first day I put the substrate in there it was moist but I let it dry out some. I do try to keep some moisture in there and she has access to water. She hides most of the time and I have spend a few minuets a day handling her some but I leave her alone for the most part. She is doing well with handling but gets stressed if I hold her to long right now so keeping it short. 2 to 3 minuets at a time. She is awesome and calm for a blood.
