They are big boogers. If you want something a bit smaller.. look into sumatran short tails (black bloods)

Here's someone with a borneo short tail.. not as big as a blood.

Here's another.. I've seen bigger surely.

the one on the left obviously.. this is a nice example of now NOT to hold a blood.

i also wanted a blood about 2 months ago. then after doing some research i think i'll stick with my BP for now. reason being would be the size of the food u would have to feed a large blood.

I'm nervous now. I'm getting a Blood within a week. It's just a baby now but wooo. I love big snakes :) I think if I can handle Kozma, I should be able to handle a blood.

An adult blood can eat rats.. no need for rabbits if that's what you're thinking.

Bloods are so much fun, I think you will agree, Hades. BCIs get longer than bloods.. just not quite as girthy.

well im looking to get something to replace the Common i had to take back so im looking alot deeper this time for a mite free snake and good breeder going to wait until spring and go the the ALL OHIO REPTILE EXPO and might pick up something there. How big of an enclosure do adult require bloods that is. thanks Aaron P.S. How often do the bloods need to be handled and i heard they never tame down that easy as babies. I really like NERDs snakes so i maybe purchasing from them if i decide on another snake.

just courious, but how much would it cost to feed a full grown blood. if u can feed him rats, how many full grown rats every 7 days? thats probably my main concern if i was ever going to get a blood.

An adult blood can live in a 4' cage.

It's good to handle babies regularly.. but not so much to stress them out. My female tamed very easily as a baby. She still is a nervous girl and sometimes hisses, but hasn't struck in months. My male is a bit of a stinker. He is MUCH better now than as a baby when he was a face eater. He hasn't struck at me in a long time either, unless I scared him. I just have to be more cautious when handling him. I fully expect both to be completely tame as adults.

I got both of mine from Kara.. and they are the loveliest I've seen anywhere!

As far as cost to feed.. Kara would be better to ask than me. But if you plan on ordering rats from RodentPro, you can check their prices on large rats and see how much they cost. Once a week feeding is plenty.. I'm not sure if Kara feeds adults less.

An adult blood will eat the biggest rats you can find every week.

You can check my gallery - I have a few in there. Not sure if any involve holding but I don't see that as a dealbreaker. Mine are currently in the long/wide/low storage units that have the little wheels on the bottom - much more ample floorspace than the 91qt sterilites they'd been in prior. Definitely not the last transition they'll be making either - I cant believe how huge Kali is getting.

My messy messy bloods. I swear they slop water around more often than any other snake I know - regardless of which type of dish or bowl is in there. Latest trial is with the big and low metal dog food dishes filled very modestly (given what these blokes can displace). Feeding day - guaranteed spillage ;) Not sure how you 'conda keepers fair but maybe they could give the bloods a run.

So on my latest of frequent cage cleaning and substrate swaps I tried to get some of the requested "holding" pics. With no one around I had to try and use the timer feature on the camera. Trying to hold these guys AND reach out to click the camera button was an exercise in reflexes. Ming wound back to tag my hand every time I tried to trigger the camera leaving me with a single hand and torso to try and keep him supported and from writhing off my arm alltogether. Kali and Vader seemed fine with it - but being bigger it was still a balancing act. My long-winded way of saying they're far from good pics as a result.

Check out my gallery. I have a 2 year old blood and he's amazing. he was snappy at first but now he's easy to hold and never bites, he does hiss every once and awhile. I love blood pythons and would recomend them to anyone who knows what they are doing and wants a great snake.
