    Herpstat 2 or VE - 300 ?
Which is best? Heating an Animal Plastics cage.
Flex watt under one end for warm side and a RHP for ambient on cool side. They are both in the same price range ...

They are both very reliable brands and both models have the most important features (safety relay shutoff, alarms, different heating modes). I don't know as much about the VE-300 as a Herpstat 2 user but I am not sure if the VE-300 has two outputs, which the Herpstat 2 does offer.

The VE-300 does have 2 temperature probes.

Only the VE-300x2 has ability to control two heating elements. The VE-300 controls a single heat source.

I am partial to herpstats but I’ve never used VE. Heard great reviews of both

I only have owned Herpstats so I'm partial to them. With that said, I do like that Herpstats have a tenth decimal point for the temp and they have been amazing. Never had an issue and the interface is easy to use.

    Thanks for all the input!
One more question, I already have a HydroFarm Stat.
Have considered using that for one heat source and just getting a single probe Herpstat or VE 300x2. I would be saving around $80. Worth it? I'm leaning towards just biting the bullet and getting the double probe stat but would welcome any opinions. $80 towards stat or $80 towards cool morph ??
    Thanks again!

Definitely a two probe thermostat. Try seeing if anyone is selling one used. I bought oth of my Herpstat 4s for quite a bargain.

I thought that the VE-300 had a 3 ports for 3 probes. And I told someone that on here. I feel terrible for telling someone it had 3 probes. Thank You so much for
straightening me out on that. I'm not the only one who misunderstood that evidently. I guess I'll have to recommend Herpstat from now on. They are very clear on how many probes they run.

Screenshot directly from reptile basics website charting the features of each of their thermostats. You have to scroll past this before you can even view those products

Agreed with everyone recommending a two-probe thermostat. The thermostat is the one piece of equipment you should absolutely splurge on and buy the best one you can afford. The reliability of a thermostat can mean life or death in a matter of hours for your BP. Hydrofarm works as a temporary solution but it lacks the safety features that the Herpstat 2 and VE-300x2 provide.

I have 2, VE 300x2 controllers and love them. The "pulse" feature is really nice.

I switched to Herpstat in 2005...not one hiccup and I've never replaced a probe.

I'll second everything Luvyna said and toss in another recommendation for a two-probe thermostat.

For what it's worth, I went straight to Herpstat and now have both a 1 and a 2. Both units are easy to use and reliable. I'm very glad I splurged and put down the money for them. They both have dimming, pulse, and night drop functions, as well as some nice safety features. I'll probably be using Herpstats exclusively going forward and I'll recommend them to anyone in a heartbeat.
