aspen or repti bark? which is "hotter"
all other things being equal, which will allow for higher temperatures? Repti-bark or aspen bedding?
Re: aspen or repti bark? which is "hotter"
Hmmm thats a good one.. I am going to have to say cypress if moist....
Re: aspen or repti bark? which is "hotter"
I would tend to think the aspen may insulate and hold heat better but the reptibark holds the moisture more.
Re: aspen or repti bark? which is "hotter"
We use aspen so all I can say is aspen is working great for us as far as heat retention, moisture and easy of spot cleaning. My only comment is that with my larger, heavier females they do tend to mat down the aspen somewhat and I find finger fluffing it up as I do their normal cage maintenance helps it have more air pockets which allow the heat to move through that substrate more efficiently.

Put a lucy on some comics, and then take pics after he slithers around a bit and call it a new morph!
"Intorducing the Snoopy Ball, brand new from 8 Ball Pythons!" lol
Re: aspen or repti bark? which is "hotter"
I have used both, I think the repti bark holds humidity better when misted, but does not conduct the heat well. Plus I hate cleaning the repti bark when I have to do spot cleaning between major tear downs, and I hate the redish color it leaves on my snakes too. However, I love the aspen, I too have to fluff it here and there because yes, thier slithering kinda tramples it down, but it dont leave red on my snakes, is easier to spot clean, and the way it holds heat is better all around. It is also visually pleasing (IMO), if thats important to you, for me, no it is not important, function of the product is the most important factor for me when buying.

Naaa ... I think the bottom feeders out there have the market cornered on stuff like that ... between the balls soaked in cool-aid to the $450 "pastels" that are browner than my non-genetic high golds, I'm sure it won't be long before they start advertising "comic balls" ... LOL

You have no idea! ... There is soooo much shady stuff that goes on out there ... especially for snakes at shows ... waxing, tubing full of fluids, soaking in kool-aid, or other colored liquid ... the list goes on and on.
In this business, you really do get what you pay for.
