When do you handle your Balls/Royals?
I was just wondering about this, I came accross a few posts where people said they never handle after dark because their snakes associate it with being fed. I always thought it was better not to bother them during the day but now i'm curious!

Honestly it has more to do with when she looks comfortable than when I want to, at least for now. I'm still very new to this, but I've held her in the morning, daytime, and evening before. I haven't ever held her at night. But if there's a time where she's curiously coming up to me, I will definitely pick her up. :)

I usually handle mine during the evening or night time, during her active hours. I try and let her sleep during the day. Today i was doing some maintenance on her tank and she seemed active so i pulled her out and handled her but generally its a nighttime thing for me.

Yeah me too. My baby is very pet-rock-like so I dont usually see her actually out and slithering around but at night she lays her head outside of her hide. I get off work at 11p so I usually get her out and hang out with her a bit when I get home. Sometimes tho in the day if I am doing something in her cage like spot cleaning or changing her water she comes out to see what I'm doing. It's so cute.

I usually handle mine in the evening when its a bit quieter around here (3 kids under 10) and he is coming out to explore or hunt.

Evening/night after work, except on the weekends. Heck I've cleaned enclosures at 0200 before; the "event" was loud enough to wake me up.

I handle mine whatever time of day it's convenient for me.

I know there are some species that can be more difficult to handle at night, but BPs aren't one. I've never observed any behavioral differences handling BPs day vs evening.

Mine seems to enjoy watching my boyfriend play apex. She stretches out on the couch and scopes at the tv. Haha so cute

Don't do it too often, but usually handle mine in the evenings or when we have visitors.

I swear friends and relatives come over to see the BPs like it's a zoo. Need to start charging an entrance fee.

None of my relatives like snakes and a few are downright scared of them. It does make life easier this time of year b/c I never have to host family holiday gatherings, I just get told where to show up and what food to bring. :D

Yea, thankfully my family are ok in that respect. Also, most have younger kids who always gravitate towards the enclosures when they come over.

However, nothing beats just showing up and calling it a day. Less headaches for sure!

LOL. I feel the same way. Although everyone has their favorites in my collection (only one BP). Shayna (BP) is up there for sure though.

For what's worth, I handle during the day and evening. When the lights go out, Shayna is ready for food. Same with all my snakes. They are conditioned to eat at night. When I go in during the day, it's handling time. I do hook train my boas (3) and Carpet python, but if I still handle during the day. If I have to take a snake out at night, the hook is a necessity. They are all locked and loaded :).

Re: When do you handle your Balls/Royals?
I will handle them at any time i can. I've held them during the day, night, dusk, dawn and evening. maybe it could be that i feed during the day, but the only time i find them in food mode is when they see me thawing a rodent or if it is the day that i usually feed them.

I try whenever she’s out und about or poking her head from her hide when she’s hid I leave her alone don’t know if that’s right but I just think that if she is hid she is so for a reason
