    Red pupils in BP's
Hello, I have a few questions and I'm hoping to find answers because I haven't really been able to find anything online yet. Back in September I bought a beautiful baby pastel champagne boy. In the first picture I saw of him he was a pretty salmon color and I couldn't really see his eyes. When I recieved him I didn't really like the way he was packaged there was only styrofoam and paper, he was packaged with dry paper towels and was cold to the touch. Now I did buy him online from a place in LA, California to Minnesota which is where I live. Their website had good reviews, just a few complaints about mites. Now when I took him out to inspect him I took a look at his eyes I was very excited but curious because I noticed that he had totally black sclera's and ruby red pupils. I researched but the only thing I could find was that it happens with BEL BP's and I can't find anything else. I'm curious if maybe there's a little more to my pastel champagne. He also has a small ring near his tail which I'm also curious about.

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help!

I know nothing about BP genes, but I did want to say that packaging sounds fairly common. Netted in a styrofoam box. And they're cold blooded, so they'll be cold to the touch, unless they were just basking, as we are 98 degrees.

Have you taken pictures of your snake's eyes and ring around the tail?

If the ring is white it's probably a ringer, which are common with champanes.

Yeah! I wasn't expecting anything like that at all. I don't know much about bp genes so I don't know how or why they're so red but I really want to know

The only Gene that I'm aware of that produces red pupils is the super form of "fire" but that's an all white snake with sometimes faint yellow markings.

I've seen a few with eyes like that, it's not that uncommon. Most of the ones I've seen are not near as noticeable in person as they are in a picture. I think it needs to reflect the light just right to see it. I'm not sure all the morphs that get it but I know bananas for sure are one that does. I don't see banana in yours but champagnes can be tricky. I had a champagne enchi and she didn't have it so I doubt it's the champagne that's doing it. Hard to say why yours has it. Do you know what the parents were?

I wish I do but I asked in an email about the parents and the last time he was fed and they only answered the last question. I'm not sure what his parents were or what other genes he may have.

I have 2 fire pied paradox ball pythons from the same clutch and they both have one black pupil and the other side they have a red pupil.

Paradox markings showed up on the head and eyes in my snakes.
