just got my new blood, I have a question, need quick response please
I just recieved my new blood from rays reptilia and I have a question. First of all i dont know if i agree with how he was shipped but ill get into that on a later date. My question is: The container he was in smelled badly of urine, and the snake also does, is there something I should do to disinfect her. Also she seems to be pretty weak, probably for obvious reasons, should I be concerned or just let her be for awhile? Would appreciate any advised a.s.a.p. Thanks

Well, Rays Reptilia does not have a good rep on BOI, I would be worried a bit, maybe make a vet appointment, but in the mean time, soak her to hydrate her a bit. It would help clean her off too.

well she is moving around now, she went right to her water dish, laid half her body in it and drank, so she seems to be doing ok, how should i clean her?

The man needs to be put outta business. There are terrible stories of his poor animals arriving half dead... but, because he posts low prices, people keeping buying from him :P
I agree, get her hydrated and settled, keep an eye on her, make a vet visit for a week or so. If you have any questions, get in touch with Kara, KLG, on here. She might be able to help you out.
EDIT: You can soak her by filling a plastic tub with luke-cold water (enough water to go halfway up the snake's sides), and putting the girl in there with the lid on for about a half hour or so. Should get real nice and hydrated.

If the water is warm to us, it's going to be HOT to them, right?

Not sure about that, I have never had to clean my snakes cause of something like that. In fact, I have never "washed" any of my snakes.

ok, should i not worry about cleaning her off and just let her soak? Will she clean herself somehow?

First things first, Keep that snake completely away from any of your current collection. Think: separate room or even separate building.
Second... Ordering from Ray's will guarantee you will not get a healthy animal. He has quite a bad reputation on the Fauna Board of Inquiry. It would be of benefit to you and everyone else if you signed up and posted your experience. That way no one else should have to go through that. http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...splay.php?f=13
If the snake smelled of urine, you can use water to get the smell and remaining urine off. Run over her body with a washcloth to assist in cleaning her. You don't want urine scald, Ick.
If the snake is weak, please take it to a qualified reptile vet. Bloods are very delicate and need to be kept in small, dark enclosures such as rubbermaid/sterilite/iris shoeboxes or small sweaterbox with the whole temp of the enclosure at 83-84 degrees. They do not thrive well in aquarium-style enclosures(not to mention that tanks are harder than heck to properly maintain temps and humidity in.
Kara! Where are you?!
I'm sorry that you received an animal in such bad condition. I hope I helped a bit with the suggestions I gave. Good luck with the snake.

Re: just got my new blood, I have a question, need quick response please
Thanks everyone for all the help, at least she has a good home now, she is a pretty snake, not as deep red as the pics show but that is to be expected with Ray, well ive learned my lesson and will do more research before my next purchase. She seems to be doing well now and has a good temperment(did not try to snap at me when i cleaned her a little, as I have heard bloods like to do when theyre young), Ill give her a couple days alone before I remove her to feed, and ill schedule an appointment for her asap. Ill keep you all informed. Thanks again.

Sorry to hear you had a tough experience.
Just because she didn't snap when you got her, doesn't mean she won't when she's settled in a bit! Neither of my bloods bit when I first got them, but they were face eaters for a month or two after! Same with my female anaconda, she was tame as a puppy dog when I got her, but a week later, she was bite, bite, bite!
Watch those fingers. ;)
