5 Minute Time Lapse - Incubating Ball Python Eggs - Start to Finish. Enjoy! :)

Temp swings are due to constant heat output of camera, LED lighting, and Heat Wave conditions in my area 90F+ July/August...I had to maintain temps around 85F to compensate.

7 Eggs
4 Hatched Clean (pictured in video)
1 Slow to hatch (not pictured)
1 Underdeveloped - Attempting to Salvage - WIP
1 DOA - Failure to develop

Fabulous !!

So knowing next to very little about snake breeding ( never done it , never fancied it ) and not having an incubation unit .. I just went old school after finding the female under the warm hide , wrapped tightly around 5 eggs ...

I just left her to it - in her 5’ viv . Didn’t even bother counting the days - just piled moss around the hide and sprayed the viv well on a daily basis .

Voila ... 5 perfect HC Albino babies :)

Sweet!
I started out relying on maternal incubation (over a decade ago), but, when I had to incubate roll-outs I figured I might as well just incubate the entire clutch anyway so I could bring the female back up to condition.

Well mine was an unintended pregnancy...

It turns out my reasoning was flawed ..

I decided to house the two Albinos together in the huge viv when we went on holiday to Florida .. my thinking was they’re not that active or particularly bothered about eating sooooo they probably won’t be up for nooky

Beautiful clutch and really cool video, thank you for posting this! I've never seen the process of how BPs start to slit their eggs open so that was fascinating. You could see them slicing away in there! So cute how they all kind of huddle together on top of each other after hatching as well.

Always fun to see snakes popping out like Jack-in-the-Boxes. :D Thanks for sharing that...it's really nice "work". :gj:

Also answers the newbie question "will the snake be o.k. in that crumpled egg?" & hopefully teaches them to be patient & wait (not to cut open!).

the pairing was Super Black Pastel Spider x Black Pastel Or Super Black Head Spider x Black Pastel? i ask b/c of the temp swings and the resulting hatching issues.

if the pairing were the former, i would not have filmed or done this experiment at all. not w/ this clutch. i would not have added the variable and risk of the camera and lights' extra heat output knowing that 8-Ball complex clutches are more prone to birth defects. i would try to keep this clutch in an environment as undisturbed as possible. does your incubator have a fan?

Zincubus! you have been a snake and reptile keeper for far too long and should know not to keep 2 together, no matter the size of the enclosure. i'm glad it turned out well but your reasoning was major n00b behavior.

It’s the first time I’ve had two together :)

As I said it was just for convenience..they weren’t very active , weren’t over bothered about eating so I didn’t think they’re get jiggy :)

what kind of convenience? you have too many snakes and not enough enclosures? you did not have time to clean an enclosure, so u put them together? did this great big enclosure have multiple warmspots? they're BP's. they're not the most active snakes but they will find their way to and compete over the warmspot; or find their way to each other sooner than u think.

you're just lucky that no harm came to you or your snakes.

Calm down ... they went in a beautifully laid out set up with a perfect heat gradient and FIVE of the largest sized Exo Terra caves ..

I’d reduced my collection down dramatically and I had moved a few snakes to bigger vivs .. the two snakes in question then had lovely new setups but were on heat mats ...

At the last minute I decided I’d rather have them in an even larger viv that was heated by a ceramic bulb ...

yeah i just can't get excited fo ya when u slip up like this. just like i can't get excited for the OP for experimenting w/ lights and camera on this sensitive clutch. like i said, i'm just glad that your snakes are ok and lucked into a healthy clutch.

anyways i wonder what's the update and results of OP's clutch.

It was a rash decision made under duress given we were jetting off on holiday .. it just seemed like a good idea at that moment ..
