New snake room

I'm planning on finishing a room in my basement as a snake room, but would like some ideas about a good size it should be and features that would be useful. Thanks in advance

A big sink would be a nice feature.

Does it flood? Have you tested for Radon gas? Build a room, vent it so stale air goes out, pull warmed air from HAC ducts. Seal the floor with vinyl sheet flooring, cheap a flooring surplus stores. Overhead radiant heat is easy, cheap an safe. Is the water heater, furnace in the basement?

I don't like basement snake rooms unless the couch, tv an computer are in it. Out of sight is out of mind.

Things to think about.

I just finished my snake room. The only thing I have in there is my computer, a freezer, my insubator and the snake racks. Since I'm a Snow Mexican to all you yanks :) , I took out the walls to make the space better and to insulate everything. My basement unheated got to 15c (59f) in the winter so I build it in the room that has my thermostatically controlled fireplace in it. Keeping humidity up in the bins was a bit difficult but I just had to mist more often. I also wire my own dedicated breaker for the thermostat, definitely overkill but now I dont need to worry about blowing it. My quarantine room is across the basement in a 3/4 ceiling storage area. Again I insulated it and I run a baseboard heater with a fan. It's far more stable then my large room. I

To answer your question, I would figure out what you want to put in there before you go sectioning off your basement. I built all my own racks so I made the racks fit the walls I was putting them on, but still keeping them a manageable size for when I sell my house and move. What do you intend on putting in there? Racks? Cages? How many/size?

Important features are

good insulation
sink
enough outlets to accommodate your t-stat and reduce the use of power strips

The size will depends on how many animals you plan on having and how they will be housed.

My main snake room is 240 sq feet (that's where I keep BP), the secondary snake room/office is 100 square feet (that where I keep my hognose and 3 geckos)

Thanks for everyone input , I like the idea of having my a computer and also a TV wired in. as for racks I have about 5 or 6 homemade racks but plan on redoing the racks and making them out of pvc type material and making them 10 high racks.

PVC is awesome. All of my rack are made of the stuff. Just keep in mind how high the average ceiling is before you build them. I built mine pretty snug to my ceiling however it's pretty low at 85". The average basement ceiling is 92" (I'm an ex framer so just keep in mind that you may move one day)

Yeah I don't want the racks to tall , so i'll keep that height manageable. Also I need to update my profile signature as my son and I are up to about 35-40 snakes now. We have been producing a lot of visual clown stuff from het to het pairing and keeping what we need and have been selling what we don't need. Also from the money from those sales we have been getting into some yellow belly and orange dream pied stuff so this is the reason for the needed room.
