Games...

How about remembering this is a reptile forum and spending time posing information instead of clogging up my new posts with more games?
Old threads may get locked as they are of no benefit.

Hahaha! There really are a lot all of a sudden. I then someone necro'd an old one! LOL!

We've had only 2 going for quite some time, & to me, 2 is a "good number" for this stuff...it's sure not why I come to this forum. I think I'm a good sport, but it
seemed as if every time I came back on the forum there was another new game, or an old one dredged up. :confusd:

I agree, PitOnTheProwl...lock the old ones for sure.

At least keep the Drop One Add One and Word Association. That is all I need.

I kinda like "This or That" & usually ignore "Word Association"...I think "This or That" was the first of the new ones posted? I'd vote for keeping that one in addition
to our 2 original ones, & lock up the rest...it's over-kill, even for "off-topic".

Could always vote (have a poll) on this?

I have only been here for a bit, and the games are taking over. There's still plenty of good info but they are definitely distracting from the purpose of the forum. Glad you're doin something about it. I'd hat for bp.net to become uninformative. This is a really great community, and I'm very impressed with everyone's experience and willingness to share info. Thank you all so much.

Sorry, my bad, I'm guilty of adding 2 games. I agree with Bogertophis on keeping the 2 old ones and the "This or That" as I like that one the most. You can kill the rest. :)

While I do agree there are too many games, I don't see how they distract from the rest of the forum as this is the Off Topic spot. Almost the entire rest of the forums are about snakes and reptiles.

I can half see where you’re coming from as they have a far worse problem with hundreds of games in the DigitalSpy forum and I actually DETEST word /puzzle games myself .

That said we are in the off -topic section so I can see why there are games appearing .

Maybe there should be a guidance sticky saying what is /isn’t allowed ?!

I believe the issue is that while they are in the "Off Topic" category, they appear on the first page when you log in. So out of the 30 threads, 4 of them are games. That's over 10%. If the game posts were contained to the "Off Topic" forum without appearing on the front page, I would have no issue with them. But a new person coming on here sees this and you have to wonder, what is their first impression of this community? If you look at the thread with the most posts you would think that is worth a read, but instead, it turns out to be a game. I myself don't care for them as I fail to see the value. To me, they are neither informative or entertaining, but that's just me.

I actually enjoy the games. They are in off Topic. Off Topic is what it says. I dunno I think over time we will see what games stay and which don't. Its not like people are going into the Boa Category and are posting games in there. If its such a big issue take Off Topic out of the first page.

Maybe that’s the answer .. just exclude them off the ‘latest posts’

I dislike games BUT others LOVE them .. I guess if they keep or encourage people in the forum then they’re a bonus .

I enjoy some of the games, but yeah, all of a sudden there were like 6 or 7 of them on my front page. I enjoy playing crossword puzzles and other word games, they keep my mind active. I enjoy Drop One/Add One and Word Association, it's fun to see how different minds work.

I would like to know, for the mods and admins, is it a pain in the butt to moderate all the games? I would imagine they have to be monitored for language or other TOS infractions. So from that perspective, I think it should be limited to a few games at most.

On the other side, they're easier enough to skip over if you don't choose to participate. But I can see how it can be annoying when a bunch of them clutter up the front page.

As off-topic, who cares? they're ok & I play some too, but we just don't want our front page full of irrelevant stuff..."first impressions" eh? So if they cannot be contained
somehow (& this is a question for those in charge) I'd rather they mostly disappear for the good of the forum. They should not be a distraction. :snake:

Games do mean additional work for the staff which mean either less time to moderate other things or offer advice, and at the rate those game have been added in the past few days or brought back from the dead (12 years old game) from people who have obviously nothing better to do it's only gonna get worse.

Personally if 85% of my time here is dedicated to game moderation (7 of them well minus one as of last night ;)) I will spend a lot less time here, that's from the moderation stand point for them member stand point I would also spend less time here.

1 game, 2 games an off topic thread every now and than are ok but if this is all we are about now playing games and wondering if pineapple belong on a pizza I might as well join a facebook group :rolleyes::rofl:

Is there anyway to make a games section? I just really enjoy the games I'd hate to see them go away.

This is what I have suggested yesterday in the mod room and this is currently being worked on. :gj:

While I don't post nearly as much as I used to, and I'm certainly guilty of posting in the "add one drop one" a couple times.....I kinda feel like people reply to the game posts to pump up their post count to crazy high numbers. You can rattle off 20 replies in a half hour pretty easy instead of posting relevant, helpful information lol.

Thanks Deb. That's what I figured.

So my two cents would be to limit the games, maybe just keep the "big 2"???

It seems like a waste of fantastic resources if Deb and the others are forced to spend time moderating games that aren't relevant to why we're all here in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy participating in some of the games.
But....I came here for the snakes, I'll stay for the snakes, and I do think it's time to reconsider how we're using our resources.

It never even occurred to me that anyone cares about their post count, lol. But even if we enjoy them, games don't belong here if they detract from the purpose of this
forum, or if they make it harder for our mods to do their job, keeping this the kind of forum we & others want to participate in. :snake:

of course, this is a reptile forum, specifically it's supposed to be a BP forum first. i think there is space for reptiles and off-topic chatter and fun to co-exist. TBH i've become jaded by many of the threads and questions about basic husbandry and snakekeeping. i'm really happy that there are still plenty o' peeps with patience who could direct, answer or help. i've learned alot of this forum and others and still try to help out when/where i can if something goes unanswered or whatever. in the meantime, i like to add a little spice to our wonderful forum and give some fellow forumers (esp regs) news, fun, discussion topics, etc. etc. while we tick the day away or wait for the next thread to pop up.

exactly. and i don't think it hurts to bamp an old game. u don't need the OP to play, just some peeps to keep the game going. if no one plays, it just falls to the bottom of the forum.

that's a good idea! maybe even more Mod's? i know Deb pulls in alotta OT (even when u dont' see her ;) ) and maybe it's time for peeps to get a promotion.

I have created a new subforum in the Off Topic forum called Games: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/foru....php?199-Games. Please put all new game related posts in this forum. We will be moving all of the old game threads to this forum as we find them.

I will be making a few more changes and announcements regarding the Games forum in the coming days.
