Rubbing
My ball python has been rubbing his head against the walls of his cage. He usually does it in the same spots so should i put a rag or something in those spots so he wont damage his skin rubbing.

Re: Rubbing
That’s sometimes how they loosen the skin shortly before shedding !!
You could always put some olive oil over the patch of viv to reduce friction

Re: Rubbing
He shed like 2 weeks ago and his eyes arent opaque.

Re: Rubbing
Have you addressed the too high of temperature issues that you are having yet? I noticed in a different thread that you said your hot spot was at 95. That is way to hot.

Re: Rubbing
I have its at 92 now with cold spot at 78

Just don’t see how that’s feasible .. how would you fix the rag in place ( not tape !!)

92 is probably a bit warm.
I would try to get that down to 88-89 and see if that helpsm

Especially since your measurement might be a few degrees off...depending both on how (the accuracy of your thermometer) & where you're reading it.

Re: Rubbing
I would just place the rag in the corner where he usually rubs. Also i will. I just went to oetco and got everything i needed also got bigger feeders.

Re: Rubbing

Yowsers!!! That could be why he's rubbing!!! Fuzzies are too small for a BP fresh out of the egg. So they're WAY too small for your BP.
He could be cruising for food. Considering there's only a fuzzy in his belly I'd say feed as soon as tonight. Typically I'd say wait at least 5 days, but a fuzzy is probably digested completely within a day or two. So I'd say give him an appropriate meal.
How much does the snake weigh? What size mice did you buy?

Re: Rubbing
I bought larger hoppers to start out but im probably gonna go back and get rat pups. I emailed the vet and he said wait a few day but the thing is he hasnt seen him in person so i dont know if he understands. My bp seems kinda weak.

Hoppers are still WAY too small. Not trying to be rude, but you should probably start doing some research on your pet. This is why it's important to do your homework BEFORE bringing a living creature home.

Re: Rubbing
That is why i said I'm gonna go hack for rat pups this may sound stupid but since he's been on fuzzies for so long i don't wanna jump right to rat pups i wanted to feed a hopper or two then do rat pups. I need to wait a few days anyway because they don't have any right now. Also he's very thin.

If it's an appropriate size, you don't need to work up like that. It will take what it'll be comfortable taking.
-
Re: Rubbing
Ok they didn't have anyway. Plus i don't even think its an appropriate size cuz he's thin.

Re: Rubbing

No, not even close. Hoppers are typically 8-11 grams. Adult mice are 18-32.

Since you already have the hoppers you could feed two per feeding just to use them up.

It's not. And again, not trying to be rude, but this is stuff you should know about your pet before bringing it home.
When we bring animals home they rely on us 100%, not just to survive, but to thrive. So isn't it only fair to know how to properly care for them before bringing them home?

Re: Rubbing
Im just doing wat the vet says.

If your vet is telling you to feed fuzzies or hoppers to a BP you need a new vet. Your vet clearly doesn't specialize in reptiles. Many vets will see reptiles, but only know what they learned in school and only know basics. They don't keep reptiles or have any first hand knowledge of keeping them in captivity.
It's important to have a vet that specializes in reptiles.
...and this is also why it's so important to cross reference information. Just because one person says it doesn't mean it's what's best, or even true.

Re: Rubbing
He does deal with them and he has many at home. The thing is we haven't gone in a while. I will feed multiple hoppers tho.

Hmmmm, well then it seems awfully odd to me that he would suggest feeding fuzzies and hoppers to a BP. That's BP101 level stuff.
-
Re: Rubbing
He never said fuzzies he said small or medium mice which they were out of at the moment so i got hoppers because they were the next best thing.

Ok...I just saw your other thread about RI. Did the vet also tell you to have temps of 95? 90 should be the absolute MAX. Many experienced keepers, myself included, go 88-89.
-
Re: Rubbing
He dosent have an ri and the temps are fine.

Ok, something just isn't adding up here. You just asked the RI question yesterday, but now you know it's not RI?
Anyway, this is all too fishy for me. I'm out. I hope you figure things out for your snakes sake.
-
Re: Rubbing
How is it fishy i checked in his mouth no bubbles and no more signs of ri. I don't understand wats fishy about this.

I'm just seeing lots of contradictory replies between here and the other thread. I don't know what to believe. I'll be happy to help you out once I can make sense of what's going on. But for now I'm going to step back.

Re: Rubbing
Ok... I still dont understand whats contradictory but ok.

Just a fresh face here, so my suggestion probably isn't worth much, but could he just be itchy?
Maybe a quick check for mites is in order.
