Largest snake you have been bit by, and the results
The longest snake I was bit by was a 16 foot Reticulated Python. It was totally my fault though. I was showing him to some younger classmates, and while walking around him I stepped on the tip of his tail. He swung around and tagged me square on my leg. He did not hold on, and luckily there was no real damage beside looking like a pin cushion. The largest snake I was bit by was a 150lb Burm. This was while feeding. I had a rabbit on the 2 foot tongs and the burm blasted past the rabbit and landed below my wrist. As soon as I was tagged I started getting wrapped up. He/She (I forgot what sex). As soon as it happened I called over the owner of the burm. (I was helping feed) (honestly i wasn't very calm at this point so it was more of a yell than a call.) The owner ran to grab the Listerine. We poured a bit on the snake by his mouth, and the burm let go. Luckily I did not need any stitches, and there was no nerve damage or anything. I was just really bruised, and had quite a number of punctures in my arm for a few weeks. Both of these occurred while I was under 18, so they were both my fault. You know I was young dumb, and totally cocky. My friend did get longer tongs after this happened though.

My 8ft bullsnake tagged me recently and it was all her fault! I was spot cleaning her enclosure and I guess she was just having a bad day and decided to have a go at me. We've since made up but I still keep my eyes on her.

I had a super fire ball python. Miss Snow hated being a pet! She did love her tree though. She was less than a year old. She went to a breeder friend of mine and she still has her tree and doing well.

Idk what's gotten into her lately. She's always been a really sweet snake. She's eating a large or jumbo rat every 14 days and I think I may not be feeding her often enough. I've been keeping all the critters on the same feeding schedule but her metabolism is a little faster than my pythons and boas. I might move her to a 10 day feeding schedule. I also think the warmer temps might be making her a little grumpier than normal.

Lizzy, one of my 8 foot Coastal Carpets very obviously was telling me that she was in food mode. But I just couldn’t stand that poo [emoji90] sitting there. Like a dummy I reached for it.

She struck out well over two feet and got my fingers. Like a bigger dummy I jerked my hand back so hard I completely drug her out of the cage onto the floor.

It doesn’t look like much, but my middle finger throbbed and hurt for 3 days. The wound was much deeper than it looks.

I detailed mine in this thread, from an 8' boa:

After hearing some thoughts on bp.net a few years back, I don't show the bite photos anymore because I don't want them to be used against our hobby in any way but it wasn't too bad, just some teeth marks and bruising.

I think some bite pics are good as long as discretion is used. Some people expect a Boa or “Python” bite to totally maim or dismember a person. In their minds eye they think every Boa and Python is the size of the monster Anacondas seen on TV and the internet. By seeing that most are just imprints might put them more at ease.
Naturally don’t post gory overly bloody pics where you are in the ER with heavily gashed limbs with nerve damage.

That was an "I DOUBLE-DARE YOU!" look if ever I've seen one! Many snakes don't like their space invaded, so if they're in their hides, I use my ping-pong paddle
to block their door-way...and if they're not hiding, there's other ways to shield your hands to spot clean.
Your wounds really did look deep & I don't doubt they throbbed for days. OUCH!

The biggest one that got me was a 10' 50% SD retic female. I was using long tongs to feed her but instead of standing to one side, my body was right in the line of fire behind the feeder. Of course when she missed it she hit me on the collar bone and shoulder.
Since I was at the very end of her strike range it was more of a punch than a bite, and there wasn't much visible as far as either blood or teeth marks. I did have one heck of a bruise though.

It is a sad state of affairs when we cant even post pictures for fear that they will be used against the hobby.

And I'd take our injury photos any day against those from riding horses or motorcycles or skiing or even football. Good grief...

I must apologize. That pic is was not from the time of my strike, just the only type of pic I have of her in food mode. I should have stated that.
When the incident happened she was on the ground hovering in that same position. I knew better.
When any of my snakes are like that in their hides I don’t go near them. Needless to say, cage cleaning gets postponed more often these days.

Has anyone ever thought of setting up an invite only forum? At least that way we could keep the crazies out.

There's the Quarantine Room here on BP which you have to request to be invited to
It's a shame there are multi-billion dollar companies lobbying against our freedom to keep exotic pets who would use our own info and photos against us, but that's the state of things.

What are the requirements for the quarantine room?

The biggest snake that bit me was my retic. She was about 9.5'-10' at the time, back in December. Our power went out, and I was panicking a bit so I wasn't thinking as clearly as I usually would. :/ Instead of getting River out first, I left her till last. Well, between me moving back and forth picking up snakes and bagging them up, it was working her up into food mode. On top of that, I didn't realize that the duffel bag I was going to put her in was soaked in cat urine smell. I didn't spend enough time with the hook getting her out, and she grabbed my hand, no wrap. I got my SO to try to tap her face to get her to let go, and she just dug in deeper and started to pull my hand into the enclosure. I took the tongs from him and tapped her teeth myself and she immediately let go and pulled back into her enclosure. My hand was swollen pretty bad and stung a lot, I couldn't pick up anything with that hand for a day or two and it took a few weeks for the scabs and bruises to heal. It left a little bump on my finger joint for a few months, too, but no lasting damage of any sort, and that bump is now gone.
Some of the other bites in this thread is why I usually remove my snakes from their enclosure before cleaning up, even if it's just to change water or pick up poop. :P If I trust them, and they're hidden, I'll chance it, but I never trust my more food oriented bebs, like River, Howl, and Crona. Nowadays I also close the doors on my tongs so the snake can't get to me even if they miss - love sliding glass doors, they feel a lot safer than I image swing doors could be.

This is some great advice, with a swing door I'm sure u could hold them partially closed, but it would be a pain. It makes me rethink some of the procedures I follow when spot cleaning cages.

My dwarf retic male. He was maybe 7 foot at the time. I've been nailed a few time by BP, burms, smaller retics. His was the worst. Bit and wrapped my hand shredding my middle finger in the process. It was tough to get it bandaged up. I still have a scar and a numb tingly sensation to remind me to never assume with this guy.

I was bit by my ball python that was a little over 6 ft. Nothing crazy, but the only snake that I've been bitten by.

Decided to pitch in to this post even tough my bite was barely a bite. As a lot of you know I only have 1 snake, my little ball python Crowley. The bite was all my fault, I was a rookie and Crowley was a baby, probably around 1 and a half foot long, I tried to pick him up out of his feeding tub after he ate while my hands still smelled of rat. The bite felt like a mosquito bit and didn't pierce anything. Like I said, barely a bit but I decided to mention it anyway to make all your guys' bites look that much worse. :P
