Big Hrmph...
Well... Ya'll know how I went and bought one of the VE-175 tubs from Reptile Tubs for $60?? Well, I did, and I cut a square in the lid and replaced it with hardware cloth...
Yep...
Just go ahead and smack me...
I went to WalMart yesterday(Saturday), went in the garden section...
AND LOW AND BEHOLD!!!
Iris VE-175 tubs! I could have died... $20!!!!! Grrrrr.... Major grrrr! So yeah... I bought one just to make myself feel a bit better... It's the SAME tub, except the lid is green instead of clear. Whoop! Dee! Friggin'! Doo!
It's the same tub. 46 gallon, locking lid, same length x width x height... And it's an XMAS TREE BOX!! I had to say to the Wally World employee that no, these are not tree boxes, they are snake tubs. He just laughed ;) I told him I was serious, haha.
*Walks off laughing crazily*
So yeah, that was my stupid moment of the day. And no, Becky couldn't have waited for a few more weeks to get a tub for Ruari... Nope... HAD to get the $60 one from ReptileTubs. Oooohhhhhh well.
So darnit, I guess I will have to go buy ONE MORE of those tubs and make a rack... Or something. And fill them with snakeys. I guess that is the best part about finding huge, clear tubs with locking lids.
Night guys!

Re: Big Hrmph...
sorry you had already spent the money....but thanks for the heads up....I will have to go check out walmart tomorrow ;)

Re: Big Hrmph...
Well geesh crud Becky! That's just frustrating isn't it! On the up side I'm going to start watching our local WalMart for one of those big tubs myself for our own future BCI. Thanks for the heads up that this time of year Wally World stocks such large tubs for the Xmas season.

Re: Big Hrmph...
walmart has always been my "supplier" for tubs :P

Re: Big Hrmph...
Target has 50 gallon tubs for right around $14. Thats where I get mine.

Re: Big Hrmph...
What are the width and length on those? Are they big enough for a full size BCI? I still have Lola in the tub I got her in (when she was Sprocket) and am wondering if I should get something larger. I don't know the dimensions of the tub she is in, offhand, and am at work so can't just go check. Thanks!

Re: Big Hrmph...
The tubs that Becky is talking about are 20 7/8"W x 52 7/8"L x 14 1/16"H

Okay, I think that is bigger than what I have. Will that be large enough for full grown boa? Our Lola is a about 5 1/2 feet, I think. You know how hard they are to measure! I've been figuring on getting a larger enclosure, and that will do her for life, sounds good to me.

Re: Big Hrmph...
That tub should be fine for a full grown male BCI.....but probably not a big girl :) You would be better off building a custom enclosure for a female.

Re: Big Hrmph...
Becky, you must have a nice Walmart. I looked all over the Christmas section today and could not find the tubs.....oh well.

Re: Big Hrmph...
Hmmm... We have two WalMarts in Waco, and both have them, and Waco is a teensy town.
Maybe wait a week or so, and I bet they will have some. They just popped up this past week here, so maybe they haven't made it that far :)

Re: Big Hrmph...
I was thinking with a little modification...that tub could be a great bearded dragon enclosure. It would be alot cheaper than building the one that I had planned too. I might also grab an extra at that price....only heaven knows what I could think of to put in an extra :)
-
Re: Big Hrmph...
Ooh, awesome idea! Well, darnit, I have an extra huge tub... what to use it for? LMAO! I love Beardies, so silly.
Yeah, you could cut the majority of the inside of the lid out, replace it with hardware cloth, and *poof* instant lifetime enclosure for 1-2 beardies. I mean seriously, you could probably sleep in this tub if you wanted to, it's just huge.

Re: Big Hrmph...
ha ha...i was even thinking that I did not have something big enough to set the tub on....but if i buy two extra tubs, and put a sheet over them...I could actually use the extras as a stand until I find a use for them.....
god I hope that our walmart gets those tubs......because there is now way I would pay $60 each for them :)

Re: Big Hrmph...
I will be looking tomorrow for CSq's version of this tub. I almost bought four of these from Reptile tubs TODAY!!! Thanks so much!

Re: Big Hrmph...
I'm checking out my local WalMart for these tubs this week and will report back (this will now be known in the herping world as The Great Tub Search of 2005!)
If mine don't have it heck I'm going to ask the store manager about getting some in! Never hurts to ask for a product.

Re: Big Hrmph...

....now...one is for the beardies.....what do i do with the other two? :D ha ha....they will be used as storage until I figure that one out :)

Re: Big Hrmph...
Just so that all of you know what they look like....they look like this....and they are the biggest plastic storage bin you have ever seen in your life :D

Re: Big Hrmph...
Oh thanks for that pic Daniel! That will help a ton of folks out!
Yep we have them at our local WalMart too, though stuck in a back corner up high on some racks. What a great deal for $20.00! There's just so many uses for them!
Excellent find Becky!

Re: Big Hrmph...
how long should the snake be before going into that size tub also what do use to heat that tub?
-
Re: Big Hrmph...
Personally, I would not put a snake in that large of a tub until it is around 4' long....but that also depends on what kinda snake you are talking about. and Flexwatt to heat.
I am not using the tubs for snakes right now.....I am going to modify one to keep my two bearded dragons once they are larger. It will be heated with lamps.
