I'd say quite normal...they're more active & inquisitive (less secretive) than BPs. Nice choice, she's a cutie.

Great choice! Boas are probably my 2nd favorite species :) . I hope and believe you'll love yours.

Re: Got my first boa
Congrats! I asked this exact same question a few months ago when we got our BCI. He settled down in a couple of days, but he is still super curious. Anytime we go to put him back in his enclosure after we've had him out for awhile, he doesn't want to go back in.

Great choice and I echo similar words.
Boas are fantastic and IMO a very easy species to keep. At the moment I'd give a slight edge to carpet pythons, however the favorite snake here is my boa constrictor and on any given day I'd switch between boas and carpets.
I also have a retic and my son has a royal. One is a bit of a stressor and the other is boring but sweet.
I'd 100% recommend boa constrictors to anybody that is mature enough and serious enough to keep an animal like a reptile long term.
A big DO NOT with boas is engaging in over feeding. These animals observe seasonal changes in their natural environment, and in captivity. Feast and famine is normal and making some simple seasonal adjustments to feeding and climate, will somewhat simulate what they deal with in the wild.
Stroll down a well thought out path with your boa, and you will likely have a pet for at least 20 years.

Awesome little snake, I'm jealous! BCI is on my list of a snake I'd love to get some day.

The best things are worth waiting for...and you'll probably do better with a BCI now than you would have before anyway. When we were kids, we were too easily
distracted & on to the "next thing", with so much to absorb.

Congrats on the new addition!

It was mine too, but I didn't get my first one until I'd kept snakes for well over 20 years and was 37 years old! It never occurred to me that I could handle them. I always pictured the huge red tails that people show on the internet, not well fed BI's that are manageable snakes.
Now I have two (a female Ghost BI, Behira, and a male dwarf BCC, Feliz) and love them.
Inquisitive, docile, beautiful, strong, and great eaters, among many traits. They are awesome pets.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Got my first boa
After letting her adapt for a week I’ve started handing her a bit and I’m curious to know if it is normal for boas to rub there head against your arm like they are trying to shed? M not used to snakes with so much personality. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4cb2b78b51.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...14a2ca5df8.jpg

Some of my boas don't like to hold on either and the amount of times I've nearly dropped them is crazy, then some of my others hold on for dear life, lol

Yeah, the activity is pretty normal. All of my boas are pretty lazy, and get lazier the older they are, but newcomers are especially antsy. They'll act a bit different for a few weeks or months before settling in and making use of those hides.
The nuzzle bit seems to be related to grip or feeding response, depending on how the snake is acting at the time.

Thanks, this is helpful to know. My new yearling boa has eaten twice for me now and seems alright so far, but I was wondering why he was largely ignoring his hides, haha. Instead he just seems determined to knock his Acurite over and sit on it.
