5 for 5 on snake feeding tonight, but not without some drama
Everyone ate tonight except for Behira, who is due next week.

Shayna (albino BP) grabbed her rat and pulled it in her hide. Solana (Scaleless corn) nailed it and gobbled it down, as did Figment (Hypo-Lavander Corn).

Yafe (albino Carpet Python) and Feliz ( dwarf BCC) each got their biggest meals yet (weaned rats at 30G and 34G respectively).

Yafe struck and coiled immediately and then spent an hour, literally an hour, trying to find the head. He had it in his coils, but the more he pulled on it, the tighter he squeezed!

He finally got it down after the hour of trying different angles because he finally let go!

Feliz spent 1/2 hour gnawing on the middle of the rat. He twisted, he coiled, he spun, and finally......he let go and found the head.

I have wonderful snakes. They are all calm and great eaters. However, I am not sure they get there intelligence from me. :). I think they were just in strong food mode and not thinking critically. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I just hate it when snakes do that...can't bear to loosen up to find the head or swallow it...such goofy creatures sometimes!

And it doesn’t necessarily get any better when they are mature.

Sometimes I think that they deliberately try something new and strange just to surprise or entertain us.

Atleast he knew what was the prey even though it took a while to figure out where to start. One of our balls recently struck, missed, then bit himself and coiled. He managed to get the f/t and his hide trapped in the coils.

My little Crowley recently broke a rats neck while feeding him and the head was sideways because of it so it took him like half an hour to find the head and finally eat.

Tonight I went 5/5 again, but with zero drama. I guess it depends on the night!

Shayna (BP) struck and ate with cloudy eyes and all, as did Figment (corn snake) who also will shed soon.

Yafe (carpet), Feliz (BCC), and Solana (scaleless corn) all struck and gobbled down their meals easily.

Behira (BI) ate last week, so she will have to wait another two weeks.

Last night I went 7/7 for the first time. Only had Jeff (the 7th snake since November) and there's always some one in shed, or their schedules differ, or Shayna refuses, etc.

Not last night. Everyone happily ate. It was awesome.

Isn't it nice when everyone decides to cooperate?! It seems like 5 is the magic number [emoji16]

    7/7 again today!

Jeff and Behira were due to eat a few days ago but we were on generator power and I didn't want to risk it.

Behira hit the doors 2X again. I got the rat in there as quickly as possible and Behira ended up striking it and hanging out of her tank. That's a first. A quick test with the hook and she wasn't letting go of that rat, so I pushed her back in.

Jeff missed the prey and seemed befuddled for a bit. Then, after a few minutes of staring at the rat pup dangling from the tongs, struck harder than I have ever seen and coiled.

Everyone else was pretty status quo and it's always good when everyone eats!

I always feed my big Boa, Punch first, otherwise he starts slamming into the door very aggressively and getting a crooked jaw.

I do feed Behira first! Still pounds the doors. I also feed as soon as the lights go out. That's when she starts hunting

Maybe she will grow out of it?

    Probably wishful thinking!

I don’t know. My other Boa, Butch used the slam the glass a few years ago, but he quit doing it.

I’ve got to the point where I have to get to Punch’s cage quickly or he will slam. Before I enter with the rat I have the step stool in place, and unlatch the furthest door away from him, but leave the door closed.

I quickly go up the stool and drop the door and WHAM! It always get my heart pounding. Sometimes I’m not fast enough and he is flying through the open door as soon as it drops.

Punch definitely keeps me on my toes.
