    Do red nostrils mean anything?
His nostrils have always had a darker colour to them but they seem a bit prominent now. Don’t know if it means anything. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...0aad9cc408.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c17706cb43.jpg

He looks like he has a nose rub too...when snakes rub their snoot, it's going to increase circulation (& irritation) to their nostrils too.

I'd put a little snake-safe antiseptic on his nose rub & try to find out how he's doing that (for prevention, since nose rubs can turn
into nasty abscesses that need surgical drainage at the vet).

Is the nose rub that dark bit on the end of his nose?
What is snake safe antiseptic? I’ve only got betadine.
& How would I actually find out how he’s doing it?

Could it be from him going up to the rhp and prodding the guard the covers it?

Yes, the dark red dot between his nostrils appears to be sore from rubbing/pushing his snoot on something. They don't always do stuff when you're watching,
could be after you go to bed at night, as that's when they get more active & hunt. Yes, could be pushing the cover on rhp, or most anything.

Betadine (applied with a Q-tip) is fine, or Vetericyn (a water-based topical antiseptic gel safe for reptile use). Not sure what is available where you are...?
Some other products are OK for minimal snake use too (like Neosporin, but that & many things are petroleum-based & can mess up scales/shedding on snakes if
not used very sparingly, & you never use the "pain relief" versions designed for humans on snakes either, it can harm them.)

I only have betadine (a new one that I’ve never used), I don’t know what Vetericyn is. I’d prefer not to use any products that we 'humans' use, I wouldn’t risk it.

I’m usually awake when he comes out of a night. The viv is in my room, I just watch tv whilst he’s slithering about. (It’s 1:20am here).
I wouldn’t say he does this constantly through out the time he’s out, but I do see him go up to the rhp a few times during the night. When I see him do it I turn the temps down.

Should I still put some betadine on him? I don’t know how to apply it, I’ve never used it before.

Yes, just dab a little on that spot with a Q-tip, maybe once or twice a day while it's healing. Hope he stops damaging it.

Does it soak in after it’s applied?

I’m looking at getting a bigger viv (currently it’s a 3ft viv), would be going up to a 4ft viv and hopefully I can find one were the heat source can be put out on the outside & a grid at the top of the viv.

Betadine is watery...dab it on lightly, & let it dry. Yes, maybe a bigger enclosure, & heat (out of reach) on the outside would help.

Sure, that's fine. "Betadine" is actually the brand name, what you're looking for is "povidone iodine"...even generic brand would be fine.

("Betadine"- it's like the way "Kleenex" brand is often used as the generic term for "facial tissues" since it's so well-known. ;) )

 Snakes don't usually appreciate us messing with their little snoots...but it's for a good cause.
