Velcro to attach doors outside enclosure?

For my tub enclosure, I was originally planning on creating sliding doors with acrylic. However, I’m certain that it would be extremely easy for my snake to push the glass out of the tracks and escape. Would it be safe to use hinges and industrial strength Velcro to hold the glass on? I use the velcro on the top of my tortoise’s enclosure to hold the top down, and even after two years of daily opening, it’s so strong that I actually have to be careful not to rip the material it’s attached to when taking opening it.

My concern would be the stickiness of the backing (it’s VERY strong) if my snake somehow managed to get under it, but outside of the enclosure, would it be a problem?

I use velcro to keep some tops strapped on too, but I wouldn't trust it to hold glass on a cage front, due to the weight & gravity...also warmth from the cage
can soften that sticky backing on the velcro. I wouldn't go there, sorry. (unless I'm misunderstanding how you mean to do this?)

The acrylic is actually very thin, maybe 2 millimeters thick (and probably weighs less than a pound with both doors together), which is the problem with the sliding doors. That’s a really good point about the warmth.

Thank you! I might just try it and see if it works before putting the snake in, seeing as it’s still in quarantine :)

I thought you mentioned glass, so I wasn't sure which you're using...acrylic is definitely lighter. Try it & see?

IF the snake manages to push this out, he may also get stuck on that "industrial strength" sticky velcro, IF it softens with heat & loosens. :O Sure hope not.

Based on the info at hand, I'm inclined to think there have got to be better ways. Although without seeing it in person I don't want to say it can't work.

I just try to always think "better safe than sorry" when regarding my pets.

If I try this and I still have doubts, this enclosure will probably just become a top opening one and I’ll just silicone a whole sheet of acrylic to the front, lol.

Actually, speaking of silicone, it might not be a bad idea to put a small amount of silicone around the edge of the Velcro to keep it from coming up, or just attach it with silicone all together.

OK, I've always wanted to do a setup like that, but how do you clean it? Its not like u can do much more than a spot clean with that setup.

Silicone has very little holding power for something like that, I wouldn't waste the silicone. But if you really want this to be front-opening, there are other ways to do it.

I actually prefer top-opening myself, after having modified cabinets in the past to open in front, & successfully used them for a while. I added aluminum tracks w/ felt
strips in the bottom (for smoother sliding) & had plate glass doors made for sliding in the tracks. Super easy to lock securely: all it took was a hole drilled in the wood
cabinet on each side, & one sturdy peg pushed into each hole...nothing could slide the doors open but me.

The plants aren’t too hard to disinfect if I need to do so separately, and reptibark is pretty easy to scoop out and replace. Also, the plastic is very easy to wipe down :)

Ok, could you take some photos of it when you add the front? I'd really like to copy what you have done there. I'm going to be looking at an sd retics in the coming months , and one it out grows the ve-6 I bought I'd like to take a stab st making my own setups from tubs like you have here.
