My new Ball Python being shipped is held up in Memphis, TN right now.
I had him overnight shipped yesterday to be delivered this morning. They are now saying maybe late today or early tomorrow because for whatever reason he’s been in Memphis since 12 last night. I live all the way up in Washington and the breeder put in 1 heat pack since it gets in the 40s at night here. Has anybody else had issues with shipping reptiles where delivery is delayed? Any good outcomes? I’m worried about the little guy.

I can't speak to personal experience with delays, so hopefully someone will chime in on that soon...

But I swear, nearly every time I hear of a delay that isn't definitively from sudden bad weather (and many when it is) it seems to be the Memphis, TN FedEx hub.

I don't recall who it was, but I remember this nightmare playing out here for someone else...& yeah, pretty sure it was Memphis. :(

I would contact the breeder immediately...& yes, I'd be worried about his health & safety. Where is he being shipped from?

(BTW, best not to have a snake shipped late in the week, as snakes can & have been stuck overnight because of weekends!)

The breeder knows. He seems to think it’ll be okay. He said the worst case scenario is he gets delivered tomorrow. FedEx will do early Saturday delivery for delayed packages. I had no choice but to do this late in the week. Friday’s are my only days off from work unfortunately. He’s being shipped from Virginia.

I have had 8 delays in the past year and a half and everything was fine it all come down to the knowledge and ability of the shipper.

One mistake was to ship on a Thursday though unless the animal is being held at the hub. If a package is ship on a Thursday and is delayed it will not be delivered on Saturday you will have to go to the hub and get it otherwise the delivery will occur on Monday and the animal will likely be dead.

Well, good luck...hoping he gets there sooner rather than later. :snake: I bet you're excited? :D

I tend to get fedex deliveries Saturdays, at least in my area. I’m just hoping it doesn’t come to that. If it gets too late today I’m going to make some phone calls and will drive wherever I have to to get him if needed. I’m so ecstatic! Been waiting for this day all week.

Fedex only delivered on Saturday if it is requested (it is a very expensive service on anything priority) and breeders never check or request Saturday deliveries, you need to get in touch with your breeder he needs to handle Fedex and give you updates and an hold to the hub should be placed if the animal is not received today so you can pick it up tomorrow.

Well, I officially don’t trust fedex tracking anymore. One second it said still in Memphis, next moment the fedex guy was knocking on my door! Bad situation avoided yay! Lol he’s absolutely perfect!

Absolutely this! Also bear in mind most hubs are open late so you can go after work to pick up your critter.

I have all mine sent to the hub and take the morning of the arrival off work.

I'm so glad that Fedex tracking was all messed up, & not your cute lil' snake! :)

I am so glad you got your snake and that it was just a tracking number issue! My Dumeril's is named Memphis because of her little adventure at the Memphis hub, lol. Had her shipped on a Thursday (last time I ever did that, let me tell you) and she didn't arrive until the following Monday.

I’m surprised breeders allow Thursday shipping if that’s such a common issue. If I ever breed I will never ship my babies out on a Thursday. Too much risk.

You were lucky....this time. It's truly best avoided.
