Two firsts!
Yesterday was interesting. My 5 month old took his first small rat. I also got my first snake bite. Total food response. I dropped the rat & when I went to grab it he shot out of the hide & tagged me. He's a champ when it comes to handling & has never struck, little guy was just hungry. I was feeding 'adult mice" weekly but they are pretty small, much smaller than his girth. The small rat was about the same girth. Questions is, should I go 10-14 days or stick with weekly even with the larger meal?

Congrats on the rat & the chomp, lol. I'd try going to 10 days...you don't want to over-feed your snake...better that he's a little under-fed.

I attempt to feed any ball less than a year weekly. After a year you can get by on 1 small rat every 2 weeks for most boys.

I've made the same mistake when Crowley was a youngling, I fed him and didn't wash my hands after feeding him, so when I went to take him out of his feeding tub he thought I was dessert, it was so little of a bite though it felt like a mosquito bite. As far as feeding goes, I've always fed my ball python meals the size of the biggest part of his body and fed him every 7 days. Now that he is an adult he gets fed every 10 days, until recently I started ordering from a new company and the rats are slightly smaller so he is back to eating every 7 days.

Gosh, that's easy! Just rub your hands with his favorite rodent & wave them around his cage on an evening when he's getting hungry... (no, please don't!)

If you have just one and you don't mess with a lot of babies odds are you will never get bitten by a ball unless you get super careless while feeding. At most only 5% are psycho.

Not at all. The scrape from the edge of the tank when I pulled back inflicted far more damage.

That’s all, just a quick tag.

Just as a note of caution. If you do get bit by a ball, the teeth are tiny and break of very easily. Make sure that you do not have a tooth still embedded in your skin.

They're fairly translucent (their teeth, not the snakes! :D) so if you have persistent pain, redness, itching after a snake bite, you might be harboring one or more teeth
embedded under the skin. I can't speak for everyone, but I've never had a snake bite become infected, unless there's a tooth left behind.

Do they grow their teeth back?
