Depends on my mood sometimes. Alice in Chains can be deep sometimes. Nirvana.

Tool. One of those bands that when u understand them u get blown away!
i will say that when I was going through really tough times when I was a teen and my parents were splitting up and I found out my dad wasn’t my real dad etc. the band linkin park really helped when u listen to the lyrics! Very powerful words from a broken man. People were surprised when he committed suiside but I saw the deeply depressed man

Didn’t he reach new lows when his best mate from Soundgarden took his own life ??

Those first two Portishead albums were magnificent... I’m still trying to like their third album :)

Feelsss
I tend to find ‘songs’ that move me ..recently that would be Hypnotised by Years & Years plus Vertigo by Khalid ( a song about overcoming the lows and troubles you come up against )
Tool hands down. You can listen to one of their songs over and over and her something new or hear a new meaning every time

Quite a few hit me depending on context;
Kansas - Carry On my Wayward Son
Sarah Maclachlan - Posession ( the piano version )
Evanescence - Good Enough
I'm kind of an old hippie really.

i <3 Against Me! and Laura Jane Grace!!
when i was depressed, fighting my demons, dealing w/ breakups and whatever, i listened to alot of Carissa's Wierd. this band is beautiful, sad and tugs at all the heart strings. they were a local Seattle band that never made it. (however one of them went on to do bigger things as Band of Horses) i like their splinter bands too esp. S/Jenn Champion. here' one appropriately called Die.
The Gaslight Anthem are also a fav and i would say The Magnetic Fields gives me all kinds of feels.

Neutral Milk Hotel, specifically their In the Aeroplane Over the Sea album
Brandi Carlile
Hedwig and the Angry Inch soundtrack
Maggie Rogers
Rilo Kiley
I also love Manson. A lot of his stuff is really deep and thought out. It's not so hate filled like most people think if you listen to what he's actually saying in his music.
