Newest addition
I am still attempting to identify the morph.
Got him 4-20-19 Male 4 - 6 months old approx. About 20 inches long since he didn't want to fully cooperate for a measure.
The shop had him marked as "Albino Rare" I know he isn't an albino.
Searching through different pictures I'm not finding what I'm looking for to identify him.
These are the pictures I have of him so far.

I agree, not an "albino" but I'll leave the morphs for others to sort out -it's not my "area" lol...just want to say :welcome: & "pretty ball python"!
Have you looked on Morph Market for similar BPs? Of course, that could take a long time... Don't worry, others here will have good guesses.

Re: Newest addition
The moment I saw him I knew he would have to come home with me. He is SO curious too. Now we have the next 30 years or so to hang out. :)
I've been looking at a page that has MANY pictures and names. It seems like an endless search by not really knowing all the different names.
I did find one that looks quite similar, but instead of just guessing came to where the "know" is.

I know what you mean...pet shops rely on our "weakness" of course. :D Oh well...he's not your first snake, I take it? You know about checking for mites?
It's a little quiet tonight (being Friday night), but later or tomorrow I'm sure you'll have plenty of identification help. His markings are interesting & he
sure has a long neck stripe.

Re: Newest addition
I've not had a serpant in close to 16 years, which was more of a "shared" one then. I haven't checked for mites but I don't notice any of the usual signs. Bumps under the scales, around the eyes, soaking all the time, specs in the water. I was thinking about taking him in for a wellness check just so he has a proper start and will be around for so many years.

It's best to use white paper towels as a substrate at first & for a little while- it's easier to see issues like mites or unusual feces (bloody/mucoid)- not to be paranoid, but
better not to be totally "trusting" either. You're correct, mites often show up in the water, many snakes soak to get relief. They're far more than a minor annoyance though-
they can overwhelm & kill snakes when their population explodes exponentially; they're so tiny, each one taking so little blood, but they really are dangerous, & can also
spread diseases, so my fingers are crossed that you won't have to deal with them. (try wiping over his body with a damp white paper towel & see if you find any)
If you'd feel better getting him a wellness check, I understand. It won't mean much unless you have a vet that's experienced with snakes though, & the office visit adds
to your snake's stress. I don't personally take new snakes in for a check up unless I see something like noisy (whistling/crackling) or mouth breathing that can be an RI,
or unusual stool, wounds, that sort of stuff. Snakes are some of the most difficult patients, they're so stoic. ;)
Speaking of stress, it's best to let a new snakes settle in (without handling) for a while: don't offer food for a week (hope you found out
exactly what he's been eating? BPs can be fussy...need to know if he's used to getting rats or mice, live or f/t or fresh killed, & what size.
Best results (since it doesn't take much to put a BP "off-feed") is not to handle until he's fed easily 2 or 3 times at normal intervals.
(I know that sounds like "torture", lol...but you sound like you're committed to the long-haul, & this is what works best.)

Re: Newest addition
His feeding day at the shop was thurs. I saw the chart he'd been eating, only skipped the week when he shed. He had a nice big mushy poop wed. No blood, nothing not "normal" for poop. I did forget how much snake poop smells compared to Leo poop. This guy is so laid back, yet curious all at the same time. Looking around, tasting the air, checking stuff out...
Ate for me thurs no prob once I got his attention. He did miss on the first strike, but he's young. Got on the 2nd right on the head. Gave one wrap, held it a bit then got it down.
They had been feeding him hoppers so I got 3 that day. They seem a bit small for him. After he ate the first one and got it moved down I offered him one more. He literally just crawled up to it, opened his mouth and took it that way. No strike, no wrap. It's like he knew it was dead and was just, hey, I can eat it now. I'm trying to find a way to see the diff dia in the package at the store. It seems like a rat pup would be a better size for him.
When I've had him out his underbelly looks very good. I'll give him the rest of today to rest up from eating then take a better look at him for little "specs".
-
Sounds like you're off to a good start then. Snakes have different personalities...some are really freaked out in new places & refuse food for a while...I'm glad
your guy is making himself "at home".

Re: Newest addition
He had that vibe at the shop. Another of the reasons I knew he had to go home with me. I love an personality.
Now it's just to find out his morph and hope I didn't overpay too much for him. Not a bad price if break it down by the "year". Was a bit more than I really wanted to spend, he just had other plans.
Even in the tini tank at the shop he was up at the glass all, "Hey! Check me out, See me?" Moved around, showed off his pattern, came back to the glass, tongue flicking like, "Well, what are you waiting for? Let's go home!"
-
I like snakes with "personality" too. And personally, I'm a push-over for rescues...:snake: As long as you're happy with him & he's healthy, that's the main thing.
Sounds like he was "coached" on how to get bought?

Re: Newest addition
He may have even taught the class on how to get bought. Whereas the "regular" next to him... Laying there in a "ball", ya know. like what most of the Balls do. :)
He has his home. It's in a back room that can be kept quiet so he can have his quiet alone time. Even when he's just hanging out having a rest, when I look in on him he'll usually poke his head out from under the hide he's in, flick his tongue a few times.
I have seen him yawn twice. It was rather cute really. Never seen that in a serpent before. I found it amusing.

You're hooked...welcome to the "addiction". :D
Yeah, I love it when snakes yawn...they look like they need dentures, actually, & to think that most people are so terrified of being "bit" (but most other pets can do
WAY more damage than tiny snake teeth...)

Re: Newest addition
It had been quite a few years since I had any reptiles or other "critters", so it was just time to do so again. Him being the newest edition to the already 2 Leopard Gecko's and the 5 fish tanks mainly Betta's Red Tails and Silvers. Just wouldn't have been complete without a serpent. Prior I had Red Tail Boa's. In looking at size and size of home needed and space available, A ball seemed a much better choice. Being able to give him a home the size he needed and would fit where I had the room for. The feeding frozen is a very new thing to me. Asked a lot of questions from other owners, cross-checked answers against each other, etc. etc. I thought I was in for a huge hassle for feeding... If he eats everytime like he did Thurs I may just show him where the kitchen is. :p
Ah yes, the bites. Then again, many people are just freaked out by snakes in general. "I" see it as, any "animal" can smell, taste, sense your thoughts and emotions. Show it fear, it will show you who the alpha is. Show it the respect it deserves, calm slow movements, pay attention to it's reaction to different things...
He seems to like to crawl on my face and flick his tongue across the bridge of my nose and my eyelids.
I've as well noticed he'll lay on my arm and relax his muscles, not even bother to "hold on" just lay there supported by my arm. Then move a bit only grabbing to hold on if I don't move a hand to support more of his body. Granted, at only 20 inches, pretty easy to have pretty much all of him on my arm. Or he'll just wrap around my wrist as if he were a bracelet, turn his head upside down, look around a bit, taste the air they lay his head back down.
yea... we'll be hanging out for many years to come.
-
I so hope your feeding "luck" holds, but there's some great tips floating around this site, in case you need ever them.
I've had a large BCI for many years in the past...she was an unwanted yearling (she bit everyone, lots!) but I turned her into sweet & cuddly in no time-
I just never planned to have that big of a snake, & for many years I thought she might stay smaller...I hoped anyway (some do). When she was 13, she
moved in with some friends of mine that are into big snakes (she was 7.5' & still growing)...so yeah, I know what you mean about size. She was cuddly but
it was a "rodeo" when she didn't want to go back in her cage. I'm primarily a rat snake keeper these days, but I've had many many kinds over the years.
I do prefer the more practical sized serpents. (& yes, I've had BPs in the past)

Re: Newest addition
I see it as there is what I want, would like to have and then what have the actual room for. Not much point to get what I don't have the room for or the, well, I'll change blah blah when gets bigger...
If I don't have the room now, I won't have the room later. I was going to just get a "regular" going by the price range 'till I saw this guy. Being smaller but with the markings & colour and his ways.. How could I not? :)
I'm sure I'll get a bite from him a few times in the next 30-ish years. Only takes forgetting to wash hands after handling his food...
One of my Leo's has bit me a few times, apparently he was feeling rather froggy. Funny feeling bite there as well. Sand paper like teeth, feel the force of the hit more than anything.
Since he ate 2 hoppers this time. The package I got had 3 in it. I'd like to move to a bigger "food" but not "waste" that one.
-
Large snakes: it's not about having room for them, but handling them solo, & I'm a gal, & not that big. There are limits for safety & ease of handling. When
I took in that BCI, she had nowhere else to go, having been re-homed multiple times & getting ever more freaked out & defensive. She didn't scare me though-
I knew what she needed, & I never got even one bite in the 12 years I had her. (not that she didn't want to bite me at first though, lol- I'm just no fool)
Food sizes don't have to match...just don't want to feed a rodent that's bigger than a snake's unfed mid-body. So feed the extra hopper with next meal.

Re: Newest addition
The one Red Tail was just over 6 ft and she was getting pretty strong. When she felt like pushing her weight around, she could. :)
I'm just hoping that I don't get all, well, I could put another "home" over there for a "small" snake... cuz, well ya know how it goes.

Re: Newest addition
I wonder if hes not super pastel calico perhaps some other genes... [emoji848][emoji848]

Re: Newest addition
When looking that up, I do see similarities.

Mojavie pastel or something like that ?

Re: Newest addition
Honestly, the coloring makes me think Lesser, but there's definitely something else going on in there too. I'm not the best at the morph ID game, so not sure how right that is.

Re: Newest addition
I had found a picture of a Mojave Pastel Pinstripe Vanilla that looked similar. Just some features weren't quite the same. Was the closest picture I have found.

Yup, we all know how that goes...;) Many of us stay out of pet stores...& forget about going to Expos! "Looking" leads to buying...
You're right that even a 6' red tail is strong. So are my 7' rat snakes, but because they're more slender (not so heavy & thick), it's easier to deal with.
As I meant to say, it wasn't that I didn't have "room" for the large BCI I took in years earlier, she was just more than I wanted to handle solo for various reasons.
She was a big sweetie though...

Re: Newest addition
I was meaning for me on what I was looking at to get for the room I had.
I was as well looking at King and Milk snakes. Did see some very nice colour / patterns on those as well. The more laid back ways of the Ball's drew me in a bit. Sure there are some out there that are like artwork, I personally just can't "ok" myself to spend thousands for one.

Re: Newest addition
A mixture of all those then?

You'll probably never know for sure...not just by looking at; it's best to have info from the breeder, since not all genes may be visually expressed.
-
And since was from a shop that info is no where to be gotten.
I'll just have to pick of those "traits" to call him
